Well we are up to 0°F now with a -13°F windchill.

I think it was Thursday night that they were talking on the 11:00 news about increasing gas prices, and they had to announce that prices had increased during the course of the newscast! I'm not going to try to compare our prices to the ones you see in the US. There is our price per litre, which you have to convert to price per Imperial gallon, then convert Imperial gallons to US gallons, and then take into account the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars. Not surprisingly, there are websites that do that.

It is that time of year when the 2011 Canadian Men's Curling Championship starts. I have it on the TV connection on the computer right now, and it runs through next Sunday evening, in prime time.

So, like a couple of weeks ago, I will likely only be dropping by every couple of days or so. Everyone take care.

....That's terrible Randy.....Crude is high, but not as high as it was when we had the last extremes.  Believe that was back in '08 and then crude was $147 / bbl.

Somebody is making the figures to feed them at the "trough" again....

I don't have my rain guage out yet this season, so don't know how much rain fell overnight.  It appears quite a bit.  And the ground is still saturated from the flooding waters of almost a week ago.

Haven't been anyware, so don't know how high the river is again...but i'm guessing the typical low areas in Muncie, are once again getting water where it's not wanted.

Golf course fairway behind me again has it's "lake" that extends over to our property line....That's the high spot we've seen it in the 40 years since we've built this house.  Doesn't hurt us any, but the street, which is about 5 or 6' lower than our home had plenty of water on it.  Had to walk in some water to get to our mail box.  Again though...it it gets much higher there, it will then drain down in a creek on the fairway behind the houses on the other side of the street.

What in the world makes ink cartridges cost so much money.....and if one doesn't purchase "XL" type, the "normal" ones last but just a short time.

We've had 2 or 3 different printers in the past and this last time around I tried to read up on what to purchase.  It seemed to me I was understanding the "all in one" type units needed less cartridge changing.   That's not what I've found in actual performance for ours...A HP Photosmart  C6380.  Seems like I'm needing cartridges quite often to be fed to this one.  I will say this though....It copies any kind of hard copy photos almost perfectly. {Believe Walt can verify that as I sent him a copy of one}...

Jean and I had a "family" photo taken last Fall, {including Ella, our little pup}, and I can copy one of those on my machine and it looks like it was done in a Lab.  But it has 5 cartridges to replace.  I've tried getting cartridges refilled, {not for this machine}, and have had just so-so performance from them.

Temp here is mild today and totally overcast.

By the way:  Gas price here now is:  $3.55 / gal.

Larry, I spent about $60 for black and color cartridges for our Kodak all-in-one ink jet.

Ah, yes.  The "Gillette" phenomenon.  Sell 'em the razor (printer) and they have to keep coming back for blades (ink/toner).  No you know why printers only cost a little more than a full ink replacement...

Larry, remember when the razors were very expensive and the blades were cheap-now adays it's the other way around. I've started buying the disposable razors, and don't shave every day since I don't have to go to work. (or am still in the Military!)

We don't really print that much out, but it's getting to the point we can't afford to print out stuff, even things we need. If I print out a couple of pictures, I have to ask myself how much of the next months budget have I used.

Joe, if there's a place around here to get the ink cartridges refilled, I'm not sure of their location; and if we have to send them to be refilled, postage rather negates any savings.

Morning all......

To borrow from the Grateful Dead, what a long, strange trip it's been.  Not too bad from where I stand, though I did find out how super single tires on a trailer handle a week and a half ago in the snowstorm in PA, did pretty good.  Hope one of our drivers is doing better, Georgia police stopped a suspected drunk driver on I-75 south of Atlanta, and as they were arresting him, he broke loose and tried to run across I-75, right into the path of our drivers truck.  From what I heard, they had the road closed for several hours while they picked up what was left of the guy.......

Home for the weekend, need to get everything ready for the home loan people, if all goes well, we should be closing on March 31.  That will give us a month to move everything before we need to be out of the apartment.  Looking forward to it.....

Well, breakfast, then back to relaxing.....

Good morning. I will pass on breakfast as I really haven't slept lately. I don't know what is going on but I didn't slept at all last night. I guess I will keep playing Solitaire until I get tired.

-2°F right now, with a S 7 mph wind giving us a windchill of -15°F. It is foggy right now and snow flurries are expected all day.

It is too early to hear of more news about the derailment at Bassano and sunrise doesn't happen until 7:12 here, so they are still working under lights for another hour yet anyway.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Rainy and 54 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  From the front door, it looks like it's coming down pretty heavy right now.  Will probably see rain all day long.  Definitely going to be an "inside day".

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Homemade cinnamon rolls and regular Saturday brunch menu are on the serving station.

Larry, the $60 for the ink cartridges were for two double packs.

Hope everyone can keep dry today, and have as good a day as you can.  Take care, and see you all later.

And, if you decide to go to color laser--Whooee! Ricki and I are sticking with black laser; she has an antique HP printer that serves her purposes, and I have a somewhat newer one that has a flatbed copier and fax capability. One thing about laser printing, you do not have much worry about running ink if it gets damp.

Under a flood watch tomorrow and Sunday.  Still a lot of snow on the ground, so a lot of rain will help melt it and all the water will run immediately off the frozen ground.  Could be interesting.

The accident this AM was due to snow drifted onto the road.  Unfortunately one victim didn't make it.

Larry, I spent about $60 for black and color cartridges for our Kodak all-in-one ink jet.  I won't say what I ended up spending today at Walmart just on bare necessities, mostly for the printer, but did get a few other things we needed.  Just as I came out of Walmart, it started to lightly rain.  But, as I got not quite half way across the parking lot to the bus stop, it started pouring rain.  By the time I got home, it was just a light drizzle.  Supposed to pick up again later tonight.  They also say, by the time it ends Sunday morning, we'll be picking up probably at least another 2 inches of rainfall.  They already have flash flood watches out.  Earlier this week, they installed two of the flood gates along the Ohio River downtown.  Also still calling for possible snow flakes Sunday morning, as we're to get down to about 31  degrees tomorrow night.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station, with all the regular kinds of fish, and the regular side dishes and desserts.

Joe, your idea of popcorn later on sounds like a good idea!  Just hope I can stay awake to enjoy some of it.  Everyone have a good evening, and see you all later.

Latest update now has the line reopening after the derailment at Bassano, AB, at approx. noon tomorrow. That would mean about a 32 hour closure of the transcontinental line.

According to the local news, CP has 29 cars on the ground at Bassano, AB. It happened at 4 AM. This is on the transcontinental line. They are saying it will take most of the day to clean up, but I don't know if that means how long the line will be tied up. Reading between the lines of the media has always been hard.

This wreck happened within easy view of the proverbial road to Grandmother's House. Forty some years ago I could probably tell you what our family was going to be doing either Saturday or Sunday.Big Smile

Good Morning. I think we may have to send our weathermen out for remedial training. They fell short on yesterdays forecast high by 25°!

Today looks like a repeat of what actually did happen yesterday. -2°F right now with a high of 7°F. Snow flurries are possible.

No new RR operating news that I can see today, but the Globe and Mail newspaper is all shook up by the announcement of the retirement of a senior CP executive. Without going into details, I think they are looking for conspiracies where none exist. Sometimes a retirement is just a retirement.

Interesting to note that the News Wire has a story from a Victoria newspaper about the number of avalanches this year, after I mentioned it here yesterday. I guess I wasn't the only one to notice something was going on.

A tropical day here in the north woods (+40F right now) after a chilly night (almost zero around 10PM).  Nice and sunny, though.

Time to go fill the bird feeders.  You'd think they were getting ready for a cold winter, not the impending spring.

CW - you need ink cartridges?  Better stop and mortgage your house on the way.  I picked up a set for my ink jet and one for my laser printer yesterday.  Sheesh!

Bad accident right now in the SE part of the county.  At first I thought they had the address wrong, as it sounded like it should have been in our district, but it wasn't, thank goodness.  Still bad for the victims and responders, though.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Hey, Mookie:  if I came for a visit, would my hair actually be back to naturally curly?  Even with our humid weather, all that is curly is the ends of my hair.  The rest is straight!

Our current temp this morning is 56 degrees, going for a high in the mid 60s.  Rain will probably come in, while I'm out and about.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Friday breakfast menu is on the serving station:  doughnuts, danish, bacon, eggs, toast, biscuits & gravy, and a couple of bagels and bear claws.

Going to take a bus trip down to Walmart in a little while, probably around 9:30, 10:00, to get the few things we need from there; like my new purse, ink cartridges, etc.  Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all later.

Joe - kitty bags a must!

CW - I think I lost a lot, too.  I have just about sneezed my head off! One more day ought to do it.

Bruce - we haven't had snowstorms like we had up to about the 70's.  We would get piles of snow and thru most of the winter.  But the last 20 years have been very moderate on snow.  And we would never have a "warm" day from Nov-March.  But even January had some nice days.

One December I commented that we didn't have to go to California for beach weather.  And we don't have the winds like we used to- year round.

But our humidity remains unchanged.  We have curl your hair humidity year round.

Afternoon all.  Well, made it back safely from dr.'s office.  Lost another pound:  seems I'm losing a pound between doctor visits.  I think that's better than gaining a pound between visits!  At least I'm going in the right direction. Won't know anything about the tests until probably this time tomorrow.

For lunch/supper menu, we have:

1.  Baked pork chops w/mashed taters, corn, green beans and garden salad

2.  Sloppy Joes w/your choice of regular fries or steak fries, and garden salad

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful afternoon.  We have 60 degrees, and I'm getting ready to go sit out on the front porch.  You all take care, and see you all later.

Mookie

We are becoming more tropical every year!

Interesting that you should mention that. There's the old story about how when I was in school I had to walk there both ways, uphill, barefoot, in a snowstorm. But in actuality, each of the last three winters here has been growing progressively more like the winters we had back before the mid seventies. I'm not sure about climate change, but I am becoming more convinced that weather does run in cycles, and I think we are in the start of a new 40 year cycle. Unfortunately, it is not likely I will be around at the end of this new cycle to find out for sure!

Bruce, you could move south to Nebraska or one of the Dakotas and have the same kind of weather only we get a few warm days mixed in to make it more bearable.  We are becoming more tropical every year!

Gotta da cof.  Finally got nose and feet straightend out.  Nose now back to smelling.  Now need to get rid of naggy cof.  Then the grand finale will be a big cold sore on my already sore nose and lips and we will be done with this round.

Joe - Glub?  Does your water by the house usually flood?  We seem to be pretty high and dry, both in the city and in the state.  Mighty MO might have other ideas for the rest of the eastern part of the state.

Read where our state has 1.8 million people.  But they all seem to live in our neighborhood.

Good morning. We will see how the guessers do today. Right now it is -4°F, and no wind. They  are calling for +30°F. If the wind doesn't start running from the SW, that isn't going to happen.

I'm starting my third day of waiting for a delivery from a major unmentioned stationary supplier. It was a two part order, and the first part was supposed to arrive on Tuesday. When I called yesterday morning to ask why the delivery hadn't arrived, they said the delivery man couldn't find a parking space for his truck! So in effect, I spent a day at home when I didn't have to, except it was too cold to go out anyway. Now the second part is scheduled for delivery today.

I see where it was cold enough again yesterday to affect train lengths in a negative way. And I think we may be getting up to a week now since the last hiker/skier/snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche. The highways are open, so that would seem to indicate nothing has slid onto the tracks in that time. I know they are getting new snow out there, so this problem is a long way from being over.

Hope everyone is healthy, warm, and dry.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Cloudy right now, with a temp of 36 degrees F.  Supposed to make it up to about 63 degrees for our high today.

Funny, I don't remember Walt taking the bike out last month; guess I slept through it?  Oh well, life happens, right?

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the serving station.

Everyone have a good morning and I'll see you all sometime this afternoon.

I don't know what time I'll be back in this afternoon.  This morning is my regularly scheduled 3 mo. checkup w/the doctor.

This was my second trip out with bike thus far this year, had to get the compressor out and air the tires the first time. Didn't see much of anything as far as the railroads go, so no real railfaning today. I have an appointment tomorrow so guess I'll take bike and Maybe I'll see something good.

We saw water across streets and county roads, and some State routes in this area were we've never seen it before.....And we've been in this area almost 50 years.

My brother, the civil engineer, tells me that this sort of thing is due to more and more businesses building parking lots. Water that used to soak straight into the ground now has to find new places to run off to, and a golf course sounds like a likely target.

The weather guessers crystal ball must be frozen up, because they muffed it today. They missed the high by over 10°, as it is only -2°F and it is snowing. And yes, the wind is still blowing with a windchill of -22°F. I want a glide slope into spring.

CW, suppertime is still over 3 hours away out here, so I will be in later.
