Randy - Syracuse has reached it's fourth highest snowfall for the season - and there's still time for more snow.  They're at 173.5" for the season so far, about a foot and a half short of an all time record (currently 192.1").

For those doing the math, that's fourteen and a half feet of the white stuff.

For the record, the snow is measured periodically through the day, with the last few hours added to the total.  Because the snow compresses under its own weight, the end result of a two foot storm might only measure 18" the next day.  And thaws can drastically reduce the height of the snowpack.  So don't go to Syracuse expecting to see 14 feet of snow on the flats (areas that haven't had any snow cleared and have no other obstructions/drifts).

Pay a visit to Syracuse.com and search for "snow 2011" for a few scary pictures.

Well, time to go back to work, headed back out in a little while after cleaning up and packing up.  Got everything related to the house on track to close by March 31st, then moving can begin.  Gonna be a busy April....

Going to be cloudy here, with rain later tonight, temps are supposed to stay warm enough to keep it as rain.  Getting tired of winter, will be happy to see warmer temps and less precip.  In my 31 years, this is the worst winter I have ever seen for the entire US.....

See everyone later....

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Slept fairly well last night.  Hope you all did also.  39 degrees here in Louisville this morning, with fair skies.  Supposed to make it up to 59, 60 degrees for a high today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Mudchicken, I even have some hot cider this morning, if'n you need it to warm your insides this morning.  And, of course, there's always plenty of hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, biscuits & gravy, bagels and bear claws.

I've also put on a couple of Crock Pots with vegetable beef soup in them, for your lunch this afternoon.  I probably won't be back here until after 5 p.m., so wishing you all a beautiful day.  Take care!

Hmm, Interesting! Can't say that we have seen extra BNSF units around here that would account for the NS units out there---there has however been an influx of UP sightings around here.

Mudchicken, congrats on having Gus back home.  Hope you enjoyed your 'trip'.  And I'll be sure to give your message to the Mutt.  He's a little bit under the weather today; woke up kind of sick at his stomach this morning, now that is better, but has a very bad headache.

Late lunch/dinner menu for today:

1.  Leftover beef stew and cornbread from yesterday

2.  Grilled chicken breasts w/mashed taters and cream of chicken soup to go over the chicken, green beans, or lima beans w/corn, and homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Went back to the regular doctor this morning:  got the results back from my blood work Thursday.  Triclyserides (sp?) are not too good:  172.  Overall cholesterol is 217.  They gave me some papers showing exactly what I can have to eat that will help get my cholesterol down, where it should be, or even lower.

Then, tomorrow afternoon, I go back to my orthopedist.  Since Friday, I've had a lot of pain in my right knee (that one that was operated on several years ago).   Looks like I'm gonna have a very long day tomorrow, what with Produce and Bread/Pastry trucks in the morning, then come home to get ready to go to the doctor's office.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, take care and see you sometime later.

Light snow here in Denver, expecting 6-8" by Tuesday night, then sixties for the rest of the week.

Staggered back into town this weekend after a week in Washington state. I think the snow chased us home.

Brought Gus home from the vet (finally) and re-united him with the rest of 'Da Boyz on Sunday. He is healing well (infection gone and incisions healing). He does look a bit odd with his shaved rear leg sticking out of the remaining big ball of black fur. He is well enough that the four-letter b-word has been discussed for him, Nigel and Doogie. (Consternation in the scottie camp!)

....Thanks to all who commented of Jean's good healing and able to get rid of cast.  She has been bothered by back pain {from about the same time as the fall}, and we've been to Dr's. about that, and even an open sided MRI, and we've just received word this morning, it showed no back trouble.  I believe the fall did have something to do with the back trouble....Perhaps strain of some kind.

And the last few days she does feel better with less pain from that.

So we're thankful.  Now we're headed to my Dermi in this hour to fight the continuing problem to get the spot he removed from my ear a couple weeks ago {to heal}.....Hopefully, we're gaining on this "suff".

Water was flowing pretty high through White River yesterday here in Muncie.....and it appears the area is in pretty good shape now....Until the next downpour.  It's the area in southern Indiana who are still in trouble from all the runoff.  Including what has flowed thru here....

Mild temps today and it's pretty bright now..Overcast, but believe the sun will peek thru.  No snow now for a week or so.  In fact, just turned around here at my "station", and noted our last mearurable was 2 / 25.

Spring is on it's way.  Actual temp now:  36.1 and rising.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Cloudy and 35 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  High for today should reach about 50 degrees.  But at least the rain is out of here.  Now, all we have to do is worry about the possibility of the Ohio going over flood stage tomorrow morning.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, eggs, toast (white, wheat and rye), biscuits, gravy, and some grape jelly to go on the toast or biscuits.

I was sitting here at the computer, looking out the front door, and guess what I saw in the Church parking lot across the street:  a little gray bunny rabbit!!  He would do a couple of little hops, sit about a minute or two, hop a little more, then he hopped out of sight.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and talk with you all later.

Quentin - glad she's doing well.  Just got an update on one of my aunts who recently had a shoulder replacement.  She's home now, and is apparently doing OK.  Not bad for 80-ish.

The furnace kicked on just fine, so I'm not relying on space heaters any more.  It means the house will be nice and cozy tonight, as the space heaters weren't quite keeping up.

We ended up on another pump detail tonight.  Hopefully that chapter is closed now, as I'm not hearing any more dispatches now.  Some areas are still seeing significant snow (it's just missing us).

Big excitement on the mill pond here today - the ice broke up in the high water on the creek and created an ice dam.  The water was about as high as anyone had seen it before the highway folks were able to break the ice up and clear the jam.  Still ripping along pretty good.

Quentin, that's good news about Jean--that she is doing well and no longer needs the cast.

Johnny....Yes, she was very glad to have it removed.  She does have a short support piece, that is fastened by velcro....but doesn't have to wear it all the time....Just use her own judgement.

Quentin, that's good news about Jean--that she is doing well and no longer needs the cast.

Today, I remembered a comment concerning heavy rains that I heard from one of the men on the Building & Ground Crew at college: "it's the sort of rain that ruins little potatoes--it makes big potatoes of them."

We are thankful that we have never worried about high ground water by our house. There is an irrigation canal the other side of the schoolyard that is behind our house, but it is downhill from here all the way to the canal.

Up at Oh-dark-thirty to pump a basement, then got home and had to pump 6-8" out of my own basement.  Making sure the furnace is dry before I try firing it back up.

The 1.54" of rain plus the warm temps lead to a lot of flooded basements and other problems.  The ice broke up on the pond here in town and managed to create an ice dam against a bridge.  The highway crew broke it up, but there was some concern for a while.

Now it's below freezing and it's snowing.  They're promising 6-8" of the stuff...

And the pump details continue (at least it's not for my department...)

......Mild temps.....partly sunny / overcast.....dry.....Sore ear from dermi taking a spot off several weeks ago, and not healing properly...Jean, did well yesterday, had cast removed from arm...{re: broken wrist on ice}....

Excellent meal at Texas Road House today.

To be some sunshine, dry & mild temps tomorrow too.

River crested about 12 hrs. ago, but folks down stream from us, will be seeing lots of water coming their way....

And now.....{after they are done blabbing}, time for the Nascar boys to run out at Vegas.

Hi Mookie, glad to hear you're feeling better.  For myself, kind of in a holding pattern:  not feeling worse, but not feeling much better, either.  Friday, when I went to the dr., after I told him how I was feeling, he didn't comment.  DoctorsSigh

Our Sunday Dinner is kind of on the "light" side:

Beef stew w/cornbread and garden (tossed) salad.

For dessert:  rice pudding, peach cobbler, apple and cherry pies.

Have a good afternoon, and see you all later.

Cof, cof....well, that's better than sneeze sneeze and cof!

Sunny - not too warm, but no moisture right now.  Looks like snow will stay mostly to north of us for today.

Love is in the air - Congrats to Randy - new BIL-to-be.

And love in the Netherlands:  Nest cam showing the Battling Bickersons - two get into nest house and then one screams at the other one and they throw mice back and forth.

Owls - call to each other so softly and then when one lands on a limb next to the other one, the first one reaches over and bites the other one on the beak!  Ain't love grand!

They had a parade on the street next to the tracks yesterday.  Kind of a Dutch Mardi Gras.  Floats and goofy costumes and maybe just a tad bit of beer?  Fun to watch.  Track work again around 3 am their time.  Something about the crossing bothers them.

Off to do a little train watching.  First day in a week I have felt like going out for awhile.  Maybe the very fresh air will revive me a little.  Taking a bottle of cof syrup, too!

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Cloudy and 36 degrees here this morning.  Slept pretty good last night.  I guess Walt was too tired to sleep.  He and I cleaned and rearranged a couple of bookcases yesterday afternoon, after I got back from the grocery.  By the time we got through, neither one of us felt like fixing anything for supper, so guess I'll be fixing breakfast after a little bit for both of us.  And speaking of breakfast:

Coffee is on, and on the serving station this morning:  bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, bagels and bear claws.

Everyone enjoy your morning, whether you're going to work, Church, railfanning, or just plain gellin' out and resting.

Randy, Larry, Thanks for those answers-----about what I thought. I got my diesel pickup in 1982 and kept it until 1986. Generally would get my diesel at a Truck Stop, and have to wait in line for other people in pickups to get done.

Randy, Guess Congrats are in order there, hope it will be a good one.

CW should be in shortly with breakfast items, I just happened to wake up earlier than her today. (and couldn't go back to sleep!!)

Mutt - I think you can blame supply and demand, too.  Everybody noticed Diesel was cheaper, so they went with Diesel engines.  Suddenly demand is up, driving the price up (plus the factors Randy mentioned).

Time got get the good suit out and check it for moth holes, Randy.

Still raining - almost an inch so far, plus all the snow melt.  The cellar pumping details are starting to come in on the scanner.

I think it's time for bed.

Mutt:  Short answer; blame the EPA, today's Ultra Low Sulfur Fuel requires more refining than the diesel of old, and fuel taxes are also part of the equation.  Federal gasoline tax is 18.4 cents/gallon, diesel is 24.4 cents/gallon.  Most of the issue comes from the increased cost of removing the sulfur from the fuel, then they have to add special additives to replace the lubricating abilities lost from removing the sulfur.

Breaking news:  Little sister just called to tell me her boyfriend proposed.  She said yes......

Later all......

 Modelcar:

By the way:  Gas price here now is:  $3.55 / gal.

Quentin:  Diesel has shot up too, paid $4.01 in Harrisburg this past Sunday, PA and NY are the two higher-priced states I usually fill up in......

Okay, I have a curious question; why is diesel more expensive now than gasoline? Several years ago, diesel was much cheaper. I know when I had my diesel pickup, I really enjoyed paying much less at the pump and getting about 40+ miles per gallon. (Datsun 4 cyl. diesel with a 5 speed transmission.)

pulling a small (4 X 8 ' trailer) I got  lots less mpg.

Larry, we got one of the Kodak All-in -one printers when they first came out. Can scan to file, do PDFs, etc. Prints very good pictures, but if I do more than 3 or 4 8 1/2 X 11" pictures, I need to start looking for a new color cartridge. This one replaced an HP all-in-one that I wouldn't give you 2 cents for!

Gee, I didn't even look at the fuel sign at Kroger's this afternoon, when I did a little bit of grocery shopping, so I don't know what it was this afternoon.  But, I'm thinking the gas around here is $3.50 or a little higher.

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese

3.  Chicago style

4.  Goetta

5.  Hawaiian

6.  Italian sausage

7.  Pepperoni/mushroom

8.  Supreme

9.  Anchovie

And maybe, later on, we'll pop some popcorn, if anyone wants that tonight.

Still raining, and very, very chilly.  Temp is somewhere in the low 40s.  Walt heard on the TV earlier, that we may have snow later tonight.  And the river is rising.  (Gee, no wonder, with all this rain we've been getting!)  We may see FLOOD STAGE after all.

Everyone have a good evening, stay warm, take care, and see you all later.

We have places approaching $3.80 a gallon...

I default to my laser printer for "gotta hava copy of that" printing.  If I need color, it goes to the inkjet.

I have a flatbed scanner that will do slides, etc, too, and more importantly, will do PDF's, handy if I need to send someone a copy of something.  It even does a pretty good copy, when paired up with the laser printer.

Rain, rain, go away!  Up to .55" on the day, so far, and it doesn't look like it's going to quit soon.  And it'll turn to snow tomorrow...  We're under a flood watch to boot.

Benefit dance for the ambulance squad tonight.  The band is really good, so I'll go over and listen in for a while.
