Well, it seems like real life is going to intrude on my sports viewing and I am going to have to bring my DVR to bear on the rest of this game and the one at noon MDT.

I was wondering though if some of the comments being made on the pages loading slowly thread are maybe a reason for the lower attendance in the Cafe recently. We shall see.

Have a good day.

Morning everyone. Up early waiting for the Curling to start.

CW and Quentin, I don't think it is the cook's fault there seems to be a loss of traffic lately. I've kind of noticed a drop in overall traffic on the forum. If you look around, all of the old players seem to be about, it just seems there are no topics that get people excited lately. I'm sure US railfans are feeling down, especially after weeks of reading about HSR project cancellation's, and reading about others that are unhappy with PTC. I think maybe there just is a lack of good news lately to get people out and talking. I noticed there was even a lack of activity on the Roanoke Web Cam thread, although oddly enough, that may be because it seems to be working better.

This isn't the first time I've noticed one of these drops. I recall it happened in the summer of 2009 and Al-in-Chicago, I think it was, even started a thread about that, which actually got people out and talking.

Bruce

The interest level seems to be very low now....Perhaps as we move out of "Winter" mode and into Spring / Summer brightness, we'll all be out and about more and see things to comment on.  Example:  I must get over by the Progress Rail project site and see what activity can be seen getting ready for that new business to begin in the former ABB facility.

Another is a few miles west of me, and it is the railroad spur to be built into Park One, the location of Brevini Wind....manufacture of Wind Turbine gear sets.  They will be shipped out on the N S spur that will connect to the Frankfort line.

CW....No reason for you to stay away....When you have something to say, do so, just like the others on this forum.   just my My 2 Cents

This seems to be an awful lot of opinion from someone who has been awake for less than half an hour.

Getting back to our normal early morning topic, the weather, it is 22°F here with no windchill this early in the morning, and of course the snow continues.

I was also going to mention that I watched the movie "Gran Torino" starring Clint Eastwood last night. He may be old, but he still makes a good movie. There were some great lines but they are all too politically incorrect to repeat this early in the morning!Big Smile

I will check in later during the game and see what ideas other folks have about how things are going on around here.

Quentin, maybe the resident cook (myself) needs to just leave and not come back.  It seems like when I'm not around, more people come in here.

Good afternoon all!

Mother and I went Railfanning today. I feel totally stupid though… Let me explain:

We pittled around getting coffee at the gas station in Lafayette before heading up to the depot for some train watching. We missed two trains in that time. One, on the NS main track two. It stopped at Lafayette Jct. Well, just as I was ascending the steps to the pedestrian bridge, a CSX manifest rumbled by yet again missing a good shot. Then, we saw the headlights of a fast westbound rounding the curve on what appeared to be track two!!!! The same track as the stopped freight was on!!! I ran for the hills yelling “Train wreck!” I watched in horror as the fast freight rumbled smoothly past the stopped freight. It was on track 1. L I missed another good shot there. Angry

I did end up getting a really nice photo of an Ex- SOUTHERN GP38-2 high hood. I also met another railfan friend today.

Last night we had dime size hail come through in a pretty bad thunderstorm. Iit was in the 70’s yesterday afternoon, and I got the garden all tilled up and ready to plant. It was snowing today a little bit.

Have a good evening all!

-Justin

Good Afternoon. The Light Freezing Drizzle turned in to freezing rain and created a real smash 'em, bash 'em drive this morning. Lots of road closures, lots of wrecks.

26°F with a wind chill of 16° now. Another inch of snow forecast in the next 24 hours and a half inch more for Saturday.

No new local RR news.

CW, thanks for a late lunch.

Dag, it has really been slow in here today:  not one person in here since this morning?

Our current temp is somewhere in the mid to upper 30s.  Brrr time again.

For supper tonight, there is:

1.  Vegetable beef soup w/cornbread

2.  Tomato soup w/saltine crackers or oyster crackers and grilled cheese sandwiches

If anyone shows up in here tonight, have a good evening, keep warm and take care.

Good Morning Everyone. I'm feeling better today than I have in a week and a half, it seems.

22°F with a windchill of 12°, and for something completely different "Light Freezing Drizzle". I haven't seen the official definition for that, but it seems like you would be splitting hairs a couple of different ways.

I saw pictures of the tornado damage in PA on the news last night. It is one thing to have damage from bad personal decisions from people reacting to weather conditions, but it would be such a helpless feeling to have weather damage that is purely weather caused. Wind damaged houses and such.

I am here early enough for breakfast because I am watching a Curling game live from Denmark. Canada's last game in the round robin. I see from the commercial breaks that the NCAA Playoffs resume tonight. I hope you all have teams in the running.

Have a good day and thanks for breakfast CW.

.....Just a few light snow flakes in the last hour this morning.  Ground is getting warm, so nothing on the ground, but it was just brief anyway.

Last night we had a short blast of rain....hail {small}....wind, and then it was gone...headed east.  Understand down in Noblesville, 30 - 40 mi south of us, hail was golf ball size.  Some wind damage too in that area.  Saw some trees down, etc., on 11 news.

Over in our home State of Pa., noted they were showing tornado activity on the weather channel near Greensburg, Pa....Very unusual to have such activity in that area....Damage, unknown to us at this time.  This is March.....Transition, weather time, and we understand we're open for any kind of weather.  33 degrees here now.  Overcast.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  46 degrees and mostly cloudy skies at 8;07 a.m.  Was raining when I awoke at 7 a.m.

Jen and Quentin, we got a little bit of rain, and lots of wind, but no hail.  Areas above and east/southeast of us, had the tornado watches/warnings; but as far as I know, nothing serious anywhere.

Still have the cotton-pickin' headache.  Sneezing up a storm.

Coffee, juices, hot water for tea and other morning beverages are ready to go.  Usual breakfast fare is on the serving station.

Thinking about fixing a pot of vegetable beef soup for lunch and supper tonight.  What do you all think?  Does that sound good?

Seasonal temps today, but it actually got pretty warm this afternoon.  And like Jen...out there on the Plains....we had a bright red spot come right over us about an hour or so ago, and just a brief bit of rain....hail...and wind, and it was gone.

Afternoon everyone. Not feeling so hot myself. Just general muscle aches all over. I new I wouldn't get up in time to watch it this morning, so now I am watching Curling on the DVR. Right shoulder hurts as I type this, so I will finish quickly.

26°F, SE wind at 11 mph, wind chill of 16°F, and light snow. Snow is supposed to continue in waves until Friday. Less than an inch a day forecast.

Everyone have a good day.

Yesterday afternoon, we had warnings all over the place.  Had a big red spot right over Lincoln.  Should have had a major storm.  We got a cloud out of the whole thing.  No rain, no thunder, no nothing.  Did hit mid 70's, however.

Fri - snow predicted and you can just bet we will get that!  Snow predictions are always right on!

AARRGG - I was so enjoying the sun and warmth.  Sun today, but not very warm.

CW - been trying to get a good corned beef here at home.  They haven't looked so good, but will keep trying!

Well, we won't be long in getting the thunderstorms:  just heard on the NWS radio that they're heading our way at 50 mph.  We already have the high winds (at least Walt went out and brought the flag in, so it won't get ripped to threads).

For lunch/supper, I've fixed a corned beef brisket and we have broccoli to go with it; or, if you're like me,  and don't care for broccoli, we have some peas & corn mix

Don't know if I'll make it back in this afternoon/tonight, so you all take care, if you're in the path of these storms/tornado watches/warnings, and keep safe.

Syracuse is showing snow on the traffic cams, but no accumulation yet.  All that stuff is staying south of us - we're just getting a cold wind (chill factor currently +17F).

Good thing I got my outdoor project at the fire station done yesterday.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Randy, thank you so much for fixing breakfast.  Didn't go to sleep until after 11:30 last night, woke up at 5 this morning, with a headache, so went back to bed and sleep.  Been back up for about 40 minutes, still with headache.

We watched a Russell Crowe movie last night.  The one where he is trying to get his wife out of the Alleghany County Jail, for a murder she didn't commit.  Cant' remember the name of the movie, but it was very, very good.

Our high today is to be 71, 72 degrees, then we'll have a 30+ degree drop for tomorrow, with a high in the low 40s.  Even though Easter is late this year, we have had snow on Easter morning here in Ky.:  about 38, 39 years ago.  Still remember it well.

Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all later.

Randy - that would almost qualify as a hazmat if it got loose all at once....

I read a story some years ago about a molasses tank that burst - we're talking thousands of gallons.  There were casualties, and for weeks people were still tracking the stuff around and the area was filled with the sickeningly sweet smell.

Ah yes, the great Molasses Flood of 1918(?) in Boston, History Channel did a segment on it in their 'Engineering Disasters' miniseries a few years back, think I even have that DVD in the truck with me.

Staying in Fort Worth for the night, so enjoying the nice weather.....

There was a documentary about that on "Disasters of the Century" or some such program. I was amazed to learn that lessons from that incident are used in the construction of oil storage tanks at refineries to this day.

We had quite the demolition derby during the evening rush hour yesterday, with the new snow. Police said there were an inordinate amount of rollover accidents. Apparently people were going so fast for the conditions that they weren't just sliding into each other, they were going so fast that when they got into trouble they were flipping their cars! Sounds like lots of fun.

Patti Lank's Team USA lost their Curling game to Canada. Sometimes games are won by skill and great execution, and sometimes by who makes the fewest mistakes. It was the latter scenario for the first eight ends of the game, but both teams made great shots in the ninth and tenth ends. It was just too late for the US team.

Still snowing but we are up to 29°F now.

In the 40's here today, with a promise of a low in the low teens overnight.  Hopefully the snow will stay south of us, but it sounds like Syracuse will get another chance to move up their own list of snowiest winters.

Meeting tonight to discuss a new brush truck for the fire department.

80 degrees with a 30mph wind in Fort Worth, TX.  Waiting on a load today, after giving a trailer it's last ride to it's new home this morning.  Also got in touch with a friend who lives here, but he had to dispatch trains on the BNSF this afternoon.

Not much else has gone on, other than the 42,000 pounds of pancake syrup I had on Saturday.  Now, if I only had 44,000 pounds of pancake mix......

See everyone later....

Whew! I'm feeling less hyperventilated today. That talk of ice cream trucks yesterday got me all worked up!

27°F with light snow right now. 1-2" more snow forecast between Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

Right now I'm watching Canada play the USA in the Women's World Curling Championship in Denmark. Your USA team plays out of the Rochester NY Curling Club. The Skip is Patti Lank.

I will be back in a while.
