grampaw pettibone A friend went to the USPO to purchase a stamp to mail a letter to Canada, only to be told that Canada is in Africa or the middle east so the 98 cent stamp is required. Another tried another post office and was advised that Canada is in the far east, bordering China. We need to be proud of our educational system which produces such educated people! End of soapbox.

Mookie, hope your eye dr. appt. goes/went well. My dr. appt. was a good one. Did not have to wait a long time in the waiting room, nor a long time in the exam room! Maybe I should have taken his temp!! BP was normal, 120 over 70. Did gain almost 2 lbs. from last visit. Took blood to check my cholesterol levels. Will find out results from that tomorrow afternoon, after 1 p.m.
Hope everyone is keeping warm this afternoon. Saw a little snow flurries/shower a little bit ago. Nothing now, as I look out the front window.
Has anyone here, who is on facebook, seen the game "Lucky Train"? Walt told me about it a couple of days ago. Tried it earlier. Like it!!
Tom: (ahem...) it's "edjumacation" - donchaknow. Gotta work on your spelling....

Eye dr - just a cataract surgery follow-up for Driver. Both eyes now back to green er...blue... er....well whatever they happen to want to be at the moment. His driver's license sez green, but then it says his hair is brown. Obviously he didn't take off his hat and they only saw the little bit of fringe at the neckline. Otherwise it would be "pink & shiny".....

Got mud for offspring of a similar feather. It is currently covering Lurch top to bottom after playing "stuck-da-truck" in the greasy western Colorado clay silt at Parachute.(think Naval Shale Oil Reserve that Atlantic Richfield/ ARCO and others turned into a money-pit in the 1980's)....Lurch is up for replacement (90K miles) and it absolutely will NOT be another Ford.

After reading these last few posts on the U.S. Postal Service I was starting to wonder, since I needed to go to our local branch office today. I had to wait in line for a few moments, couldn't really hear the main conversation, but from what I gathered, the postal clerk told the patron that he couldn't mail from there, he needed to go somewhere else. When I got to the window and he looked at the address on my package, he said; "O Good, that's in state, they should get it tomorrow!"
Mudchicken, do "chickens" & "Rams" work well together?!

Wonder if chickens have considered a "hummer ride"? Hear they are having good sales right now....
Good Friday morning, everyone. A very chilly 32 degrees here in Louisville this morning. Clouds will be increasing, as the day rolls by, and snow coming in. Unless there is a big chance in the forecast, by tomorrow morning, our snow total will be .5 to 1 in. of snow. But by Sunday morning, we could have 1 to 3 inches of snow on the ground.
Coffee, juice, hot cider, hot chocolate and hot water for hot tea are all ready to go. On the serving station this morning: regular breakfast menu items, including hot oatmeal, grits, cinnamon toast, biscuits & gravy, etc.
Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care. See you all later.

Well, I finally made it back in here. Been visiting "Bills" this morning, and had to make an apperarnce for another meeting. Got there, found I out I have to go back next Friday at 4:30! Two bus rides to the meeting, just to hear that! (grrrr)
Our regular Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station. All kinds of fish, all the regular side dishes and all the regular desserts: pies, cobblers and cakes.
Did something, don't know exactly what, when I got off the first bus. All I know is a terrible pain shot down my left leg, from below the tailbone, all the way to me knee. I'm just glad I had both braces on, as the knee brace certainly kept me standing/walking, albeit very slowly. Trying to hold off as long as I can before taking a half a pain pill.
It doesn't feel too bad out, as long as the breeze isn't blowing much. Currently about 41 degrees, and the sun has now decided to be covered by clouds.
Everyone enjoy your lunch/supper, have a good afternoon and take care. See you all later.
chores done. going to get matt off the bus and go do some errands.hes growing fast and needs some new boots for this year.cw thanks for supper.
Just heard on news that they are "Shoveling off Buffalo"....
CW - hyperextension of the leg. When I rode the bus a lot I had it happen twice. Those bus steps are made for giants and not short people. It usually takes several months to start to feel better. Ice first and then heat later. I feel for you!
.....Weather people are saying they intend to make it look like Winter here...by tomorrow. Mid 30's right now with just a few clouds.
Anywhere from 1 to 4" of the white stuff by tomorrow evening when it will be mostly finished.
I'm not looking forward getting into that routine for several months....But it can start anytime now.
Quentin
Paula, that sounds like the way my right leg felt when the sciatic nerve fell out. I hope it is not that and will pray for you. A fairly good day here in the South, but completely forgot a quack appointment. I will have to try and reschedule it Monday. Calling for more freezing temps tonght, but no snow.
Everyone take care
Tom

Good morning from Carolina. Breakfast is on the buffet bar and Juices/soft drinks are at the fountain. Help yourselves.
Today is the day that the Thunderchickens take on the Auburn kittiekats for the SEC title. About half of SC seems to be in Atlanta to be close to the action.
Partly clear and 36, headed for 55 and a chance of rain later.
Take care.
Good Saturday morning, and Tom, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning!
Mookie and Tom, I'm feeling a little bit better this morning. Moving around a little bit better, too.
We currently have 33 degrees and light snow falling. Beginning to accumulate on the grassy areas. Streets are just looking wet, so far. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7:30 p.m. tonight. Some areas around our vicinity may see 1 to 3 inches, but here in the downtown area, probably no more than an inch at most. It'll be a good day to stay inside. South of Louisville will be mostly rain.
Did a little bit of my Christmas shopping yesterday evening online. Two things coming from LL Bean. Still need to find Walt's Christmas present. Sarah and I are going in together to get something for him, and we need to go visit two or three electronics places, when she gets a little bit of time off from the RR.
Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and drive safely, watching out for the other nincompoops driving around. Take care and see you all this evening for our pizza fest.

Yes, today is the day the Auburn kittiekats (who have taken care of two packs of Bulldogs, one flock of chickens, one sackful of Wildcats, one herd of Razorback Hogs, one pack (plus a non-conference pack) of Tigers, a bunch of Rebels, and a rolling Tide) meet the Bantams again.
Temp is around 33 degrees here in Louisville. A little bit of white covering the ground here. Roads and shaded areas of sidewalks just wet.
Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:
1. Anchovie
2. Cheese
3. Chicago style
4. Goetta
5. Hawaiian
6. Italian sausage
7. Pepperoni/mushroom
8. Supreme
Desserts tonight: chocolate pie, chocolate cake w/white icing and yellow cake w/chocolate icing.
Maybe later on, if enough are in here, we'll pop some popcorn, and have that and hot chocolate.
Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all later.

Back 57 years ago, my high school football team was the Upper State champion in Class C. We had high hopes for the state title, but Johns Island had the better team: 32-0. Our superintendent (father of our quarterback) had scouted Johns Island, and he told our coach/principal that we did not have a chance; of course, the team was not so informed until after the game.
back home.cw thanks for the pizza.odot was doing a good job putting salt down on the roads.time for bed.matt will have sunday school tomorrow.

Well, it appears that Col Sanders got into the Thunderchickens chicken house
Good Sunday morning everyone. Current temp here in Louisville this morning ranging from 27 to 31 degrees, depending on where you live in the Metro area. A little bit of light snow coming down, also.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for coffee are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, bagels, bear claws.
Not sure what time Sarah got called out (she was home when I went to bed after 10:30; woke up at 4:15 and she was gone. She went to her fire department's Christmas dinner/party last night. Walt and I didn't go this time (we usually do go with her, as we are always invited.) Neither one of us felt like going last night. I just didn't want to get out in the cold and snow.
I've got some roast, taters and carrots going in a couple of large Crock Pots for our Sunday Dinner. Of course, there will be a few other side dishes to go along with it.
Hope everyone has a good morning, those going to Church, work, or railfanning, please be careful. Take care, you all, and I'll see you later.
Looks like Auburn did themselves proud. And the Ducks, too! I like the Ducks until such time as we play them!
Nebraska didn't win, but held on pretty well. I think if we ever get over shooting off our toes on fumbles and penalties, we could be in with the big dogs.
Velcro, anyone?

Sooner, than later?!
Looks like our take on yesterday's snow is about 2.5" here. overcast still this morning, and earlier it indicated we had 28 degrees. Doubt if it "warms up" much today.
This coming week is to be rather cold, and on down to the deep south too.
Right now, just very light snow flurries. Big Low system up in the upper Great Lakes keep rotating down over the G L's and bringing some lake effect to northeastern Indiana.
Our objective in the next hour is to make it to church. Put the sand bag weights {140 lbs}, in the back of my little truck this morning, and I suppose they will stay in there for the Winter. Has posi-traction which helps a bit.
The Lexus which we usually drive to church {and it's the one with AWD too}, but we'll leave it in the garage.
So we hope those going out will be careful and make it to church or wherever they will be heading....
