This is a strong La Nina year, so we are going to have a bad winter out here on the coast. They should have had the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this year!

We are in the midst of an "Arctic outflow", and it is -10C (14F) this morning. Yesterday we had snow, and a high of -4C (25F). More snow on Thursday, and then our rain should be back.

I need a lot of coffee this morning!

 Good morning all!

What a fine morning it is here in western Indiana. We got one heck of a storm last night that dumped rain all across the region. I hope that the burn ban will be lifted soon.

Have a good day all!

Hello from Carolina, home of the Thunderchickens of USC.... 71 and partly cloudy and nice outside. I spent the morning at the dentist's getting a filling replaced and wound up having a cavity drilled into my wallet!!

Thinking about getting a golf cart if one is affordable. Need the mobility

Take care

Produce and Bread truck both arrived this morning (not at the same time, though), and made it back home.  Rain had already moved out, but with a very good breeze out, we decided to have the Produce taken inside when it came.  And that's what we did.  Waited in the nice warm gym afterwards, for the Bread Truck to come.

Here is the menu for this afternoon and evening:

1.  Tacos, burritos, Spanish rice, chimichangas, enchiladas.

2.  Hamburgers, cheeseburgers w/fries and tossed salad.

I thought maybe everyone wouldn't want our usual large meals, saving room for Turkey Day and all the trimmings.

Current temp is in the mid 50s, with plenty of sunshine, and very breezy conditions out.  Everyone enjoy your afternoon and evening, take care, and I'll hopefully see you all either later this evening, or at least in the morning.

Well, I think I'm recovered from the weekend - it was busy, to be sure.

Next time on the rails if for our Elf Trains on Black Friday - should be interesting as my crew isn't exactly well-seasoned and we'll have a ton of people on the two trips.  It's a benefit, with kids riding free and adults riding for just $5, so a lot of folks will be on board for both trips.

The worst part will be night ops - something we don't do a lot of in the first place, so safety will be at the top of our list (not that it isn't usually, but you have to be just that much more careful in the dark).

Cheeseburger sounds good, then it's off to a meeting.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Very chilly 34 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Cant' remember what the predicted high is for today, but doubt it'll be too far into the 50s.  More rain coming in for this afternoon/tonight.  We may even see some snow flurries(?) tomorrow and Friday.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Regular breakfast menu selections are on the serving station.

Not too sure you all will see much of me in here the rest of the day.  I'll be in the kitchen (here at home), starting the cooking for tomorrow.  Will be concentrating on the side dishes today, and will put the turkey bird in the oven in the morning.

For those of you who will be leaving today for your Thanksgiving travel destinations, please be safe, and we'll see you when you get back.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

Thanks for the email CW.  I will try to pop in here a bit more from time to time.

Cold, frost, and flurries are the order of the day...along with preps for the holiday season.  Had a friend "stumble" into a nasty nest of acronyms on Sunday: TSA, FBI, DCSD, CNRRPD...looked scary but turned out ok for him.  Back to lurking for a while...

Well today, is when holiday traffic starts into the crescendo with millions of citizens traveling back to {fill in the blank}....Hope the weather cooperates, and does not act up too bad and making moving about more dangerous.  We wish safety to all traveling.

We have no plans to travel any distance over this holiday, but have done so in the past on many occasions.  One occasion, I remember on our way back to Pennsylvania, traveling east on I-70 was a massive back up at the Laurel Hill Tunnel on the Pennsy Turnpike...Luckily, we heard over the CB radio near Donegal, Pa., that traffic was backed up from the western entry of the Laurel Hill tunnel for miles and miles...We got the message just in time to exit at the Donegal exit, and that allowed us to continue towards home via parallel state highway rt. 31.  Had we not received that message, we'd have been delayed on the Turnpike for hours and hours trying to get to our normal exit, Somerset 20 some miles ahead.

That restrictive 2 lane tunnel, one lane each direction....{has been by passed years ago}, and that bottleneck does not exist anymore.

Here....at sunrise this morning, the sky was red.....and since then has turned to overcast...."red skies in morning, sailors, take warning", I don't know if that will apply to today or not.  It's dry, and the temp when I first looked this morning, was 29 degrees.  Doubt if we have any major weather problems in this area today.

Back east....I remember several serious snow storms starting on Thanksgiving Day, that resulted in several feet of the stuff.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

You're having hot weather! It was about 10 degrees here this morning, and some say to expect 0 to morrow morning; I wonder how many will be in church tomorrow morning. We had about two inches of snow out here, but the east side was much worse off.

Safe travel to all, both ways, and give thanks tomorrow!

.....We're high and dry here Joe...My part of the Muncie area is not subjected to high water unless it's of  40 days and 40 nights kind.

We can handle lots of rain as we've been on the minus figure here since before August.

Well, I finally made it back in here.  Been a really busy day for me.  Even had to go to the store, to pick up one of my prescriptions.  Woke from a morning nap, with really bad indigestion.  So had to get my prescription refilled for the generic Zantac the dr. has me on.

I'll be getting up early in the morning, to get the turkey prepped and in the oven.  No sweets for me this year:  and I think everyone here knows how much I like my sweets, especially anything chocolate and pecan pie.  (Yep, don't like pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie.  YUCK!)

Everyone have a very good evening, stay dry and warm, and take care.

Bundling up.  Almost 60 yesterday, nineteen right now.  Sheesh!

Hanging out at the house for turkey day this year (as long as nobody tries to deep-fry their house instead of their turkey).  Kids are both elsewhere.

Still planning a full dinner, though.  In fact, I'd better get my cranberry relish done and in the fridge!  It needs to mull for a while to be really good.

Off to the kitchen!

Let me wish all my friends a very happy and joyous Thanksgivng. It is officially sanctioned that you may pig out at will.

I had a most enjoyable day today. There were incredibly good conditions on the wireless for this time of the solar cycle, and I exchanged pleasantries with folks from New Zealand to Madagascar to Albania and points in between.

Take care and enjoy

Tom

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all!!  May your day be filled with plenty of food, good cheer, and good health.  I am very, very thankful for my family, friends and acquaintances.  Please take a few moments today to remember our military men and women who are in Afghanistan, the ones left in Iraq, and wherever else they may be, where they are in harms' way.

Coffee is ready, along with juices and other morning beverages.  I'll have a glass of orange/tangerine juice, as usual.   On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and your choice of pancakes (flapjacks) or waffles.  There is also a few bagels and bear claws.

I'm heading back into the kitchen in a few minutes, to start getting Mr. Turkey ready for the oven.  Everyone have a good morning, and take care.  See you all later.

Happy Thanksgiving to the rest of you out there. It is very cold here in the Dakotas, I got up here this morning and our temp in Sioux Falls was 1 above 0. Windchill was at -10. We will see a high of 13, maybe 15 degrees and that's it.

We had a light drizzle here yesterday afternoon, and it froze. So I thought I'd better get out and buy myself some ice melter. I took the small cart that I own, went to my neighborhood Sunshine Foods and bought a 40# bag of ice melt. I thought that with a given amount of weight in my cart, I would not slip and fall - No Sir!!!! Twice within a block of my house, I fell forward and more or less landed on my face. The good thing is that I was not physically harmed in any way.

Later this afternoon I will be baking pumpkin spice bread for my family's Thangsgiving dinner. Chef

Have a good day, everyone!

Happy thanksgiving, everyone....

Was an interesting drive back to Wisconsin yesterday, roads were not bad, still had traction, but everyone else thought it was slick.  Everyone also seems to like to slam on their brakes whenever they see a salt truck or a cop on the side of the road, guess nobody ever saw a cop give someone a ticket or saw a salt truck before.

At home now, will head over to parents later for dinner, will just be four of us, other sister is visiting her boyfriend's side, but that's ok, I like small gatherings anyway.  Friday morning (if the rig starts, it's at Richfield in case it needs help) will be back out on the road, should be an interesting weekend....

See everyone later....

Wishing you all a most blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Please don't forget our less fortunate friends and family, who may not be able to enjoy the holiday.

If you know someone who is alone, please consider setting another place at the table and invite them into your home.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Currently 73 and cloudy down here in Alamo City.

The cold front that the midwest is headed our way, and we should be getting it by this evening.  I can see on the radar that parts of far west Texas are getting snow.

Quentin, enjoyed your story about the traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the tunnel bottlenecks.  I remember them well.

Of course, I remember when driving across to St Louis it was US 40 and not I-70.

Murray

Good morning Murray:

Thanksgiving holiday time was really the worst time and trouble when the Pennsy Turnpike still contained all the original 2 lane tunnels.  Before the probelm was remedied, traffic was backing up as much as 20 miles on this holiday.

Starting back in the 60's, the Turnpike Commision, hit the problem hard and doubled the tunnels where it was not possible to go around them.  So all those bottlenecks have been eliminated.  If I remember correctly, Allegheny & Laurel Hill caused the worst backup.  Allegheny was doubled, and of course Laurel Hill was by passed.  All was accomplished without increasing the max. gradient of 3%.  The steepest max. on the original 160 miles of it.  That part was opened on Oct. 1st, 1940.

As you very well might know....that original 160 miles followed the much older partially graded railroad bed that was to be the South Penn Railroad.  The Turnpike roughly followed that grading.   Including most of the original partially finished tunnels.  That construction was stopped in 1885.

Our home area in Pennsylvania is near the Turnpike exit of Somerset.

Quentin, enjoyed your story about the traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the tunnel bottlenecks.  I remember them well.

Of course, I remember when driving across to St Louis is was US 40 and not I-70.

Hoo-Boy.  Lake Effect advisory for tomorrow afternoon.  It probably won't affect our trains, but that does mean I may have to deal with it on the way home...
