Temp. now: 93 plus, and of course very humid. I was just across the street to my neighbors doing a bit of work on a vehicle, and came back sweated wet thru my shirt. So had to take care of that situation.
That cool air out in Ne. must be some of our "good" cooler / lower humidity, coming our way tomorrow. But right now, it's hot...!

Raining here - which is perfect since I just put down some grass seed.
I put the grass seed down because I just finished one of my major projects - a wheeled rack on which to put my row boat and sailfish. They were killing the grass, of course, due to the effort it took to move them around. The new rack isn't perfect, but at least I can move them a little more easily.

Gorgeous day here in Iowa as well- I've been busy working on lawn upkeep, and need to get back at it. Replacing landscape lights with sturdier metal ones (basketball-proof- we have young boys living on both sides of us). What a pain in the knees...

Tom, I am sure that all who have been moving things around every month (including you) will be glad to rest your backs for three months at a time.
It is warming up here now; we did not reach 90 for several days in a row, but we expect some days in the high nineties this week. Ricki and I are considering going up to Snow Bird (24 miles away, +4000 feet; -10o) one day this week and spending the day there; her mobility problems preclude our spending the whole week as we have done for several years. Her four former-work friends who usually spend a day with her there will be here tomorrow afternoon and evening; I may spend most of my time down here at my computer.

Family picnic was this afternoon, had a nice time, got to see some people I haven't seen in a few years. Was nice just to sit and talk with everyone, and get up to date on everything. In between, found time to finish wiring the layout, and test-ran the first locomotive, my Wisconsin Central GP7 1503. Other than dirty track, everything worked as intended. Will have to spend some time cleaning everything up next time I'm home, as it will be back to the truck tomorrow morning. Another decision to be made will be weather to switch to the regional fleet at our company, which could mean more time at home, but will take our time with this one.....
Temp has dropped to 64 here, house is opened up and cool air is being pulled through. Should be nice sleeping weather tonight, humidity dropped like a rock today, to be nice most of the coming week.

TF - the C-17 is big, but the C-5 is bigger. I once saw a Russian Antonov on final approach from a distance it's so big that it didn't look like it was moving through the air at all.
During my AF tenure I was involved with some testing on a new portable weather station. We were set up at the end of the runway of the major AFB where I was stationed doing our thing.
We paused as an F-105 fighter ("Thud") took off, on afterburner, starting on the opposite end of the runway.
After it passed we went back to the task at hand, only to be surprised by the sound of six beer cans (full) dropping in a nice pattern not 100 feet from where we stood. One can that hit the adjacent road was imprinted by the aggregate in the pavement.
We reported the incident and later found out that the door to a small storage compartment on the jet had opened during flight. Not only did the pilot (who had stopped for fuel enroute) lose his six-pack of Coors, but he lost his suitcase (which we didn't encounter).
Good Monday morning everyone. Yeah, Cannonball, someone emailed me last week, gave me this suggestion, and I emailed a few helpers about it. It was a hassle changing every month; don't think any of us will complain about only doing it once each quarter.
Couldn't get on until now, as when I tried several times this morning, got the "Down for Maintenance" message.

Quite a few years ago I had an opportunity to witness some performance of a C5A Galaxy at the Ft. Wayne air field. Some kind of program was happening that day. Jean and I had taken our young daughter there to board a plane, and we just happened to see the above performance.
Watched a Galaxy take off, and I could hardly believe my eyes, as he was in the air before he hit the center of the runway where they cross....and then pulled up and out and made a big lumbering turn and flew back over the runway he had just taken off from, and only several hundred ft. high.......I had never seen one of these planes on site before, and was so impressed with it's size....It appeared to just about "hang" in the air as it passed. But the short take off was THE surprise to me.

It's been a very lovely day here in Louisville. Temp is warm, but humidity is low, so not too bad outside. Have gotten laundry done, just have to get it out of the dryer, then it stops, fold and put away.

Good Tuesday morning everyone. We have a very pleasant 69 degrees here in Louisville this morning. When I awoke at 5:25, it was 71 degrees. School buses are rolling, kids preparing for their first day back in school. High today is to be in the mid to upper 80s, might see 90 in some areas.
Cleaned one pantry shelf yesterday. Pitched all the canned goods that had old "Use By" Dates on them. A couple of weeks ago, I had done the same thing on a different shelf, that one contained cake mixes, biscuit mixes (that I use in a hurry), corn meal, macaroni, anything else that was in a box and had an expiration date on it.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. Mookie, here's your coffee mug, all ready for you. On the serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, Cheerios, Raisin Bran, Special K, and some other cereals that might be of interest to any of you.

Good Morning to all. Paula: I was sent an email regarding cake mixes that were past the expiration date.
Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores. Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic! Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, brownie mixes, Bisquick, cake & cookie mixes, etc., you have in your home.
Yeah, Bob, I had that particular email also. Anymore, when I bake a cake, it is usually from scratch.
Produce went well this morning. We only had between 32 and 36 people ( few were late getting back, so they had to go inside to get whatever was left. They brought us: potatoes, purple cabbage, corn on the cob and yellow summer squash.
Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now on the serving station:
1. Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef enchilada
2. Tacos (hard shell and soft shell)

4. Fajitas (steak, chicken or tilapia)

There is little on the local news except the woman who killed her two children and then dumped them into the Edisto River. I watched the news off and on all day and very little else was reported. I don't think I have seen such anger from the public in a very long time. For her safety, she probably won't be given bail. Apparently, she simply didn't want them.... It happened abour a hundred miles south of me. On a related note, a triple homicide here in Florence about 4 miles from here. Seems SC is in the news a lot all of a sudden.
Got one eye on the weather. Last seen, a storm was headed toward us, but they form rapidly and then are gone before you know it. At present, overcast and 86.

Seriously, we have seen the sheriff talk twice, a standard news report on what happened, an interview with the hotel clerk, a recording of the 911 call, an interview with a grief counselor, an interview with a psychiatrist, an interview with neighbors, and a few other things. Jam that into a 30 minute newscast, replete with commercial announcements and you've got a full house.
Good Wednesday morning everyone. We have a pleasant, 75, 76 degrees at 6:23 a.m., going for a high of around 86 for today. 20% chance of showers, mostly to the south, southeast of Louisville for today. So another really nice day around here.
Tom and Quentin, we've heard plenty about Blago and the woman putting her car in the water with her two children strapped in the backseat. Don't get me started on what I think should be done to/with her.
On the local side of our news, we have some pretty steamed parents over how long it took for their little children to get home from school yesterday. Things did not go as smoothly as it did getting them to school yesterday morning. Little ones waited on a bus in the bus compound for upwards to two hours, for their final bus to come take them home. Some kids didn't get home until after 6 p.m., while others didn't get home until after 9 p.m. last night. One mother a reporter talked with, said her little 5 yr. old boy was exhausted and scared to death. Another mother said her little one does not want to go back to school today. Sure do hope they get things straightened out today or tomorrow.
