Good morning. Sunny and 87 in Carolina this morning, headed for 97 later. Thanks for breakfast.

Quentin, we certainly do have our share of thunderstorms. Beginning in April, there is something going on practically every day until late September. That doesn't mean that all of them come over us, but somewhere in the state. In 1994, I believe, we were under a thunderstorm warning for the entire month and I was driving home through one practically every day. They seem to come up mostly around 5 PM or later, Interesting.

Everyone stay cool

Tom

Afternoon, everyone.  I haven't made it to the grocery yet, but I did have enough to get our lunch together.  It is our regular Friday Fish Fry:  Catfish, cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, Bass, jumbo butterfly shrimp, clams, talapia and trout.  Regular side dishes of baked beans, pork & beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, potato salad, garden salad, breaded fried mushrooms, fries (regular and curly), macaroni & cheese.

Dessert menu today:  Chocolate fudge cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, strawberry pie, pecan pie  and the following cobblers:  apple, cherry, peach, and blackberry.

Everyone have a very good afternoon, and I'll see you all later.  Going to go check the bus schedule.

Hmm - not much into fish, so I'll skip the main course (I had a Hoffman's "Snappy Griller" hot dog instead), but those cobblers sound really good.

For some reason, my mother once got it into her head that I liked strawberry rhubarb pie.  I must have been being tactful...

A fairly busy two days on the railroad, now I get to concentrate on projects around the house for a whole week.  And I'd better.  Mom's coming to visit in mid-September.

Tree - I'll take your strawberry rhubarb pie and don't forget to dust under the bed!

CW - I'll fish.

Have had camp here at our walk-in closet-sized abode.  Grandson 10.5 spent Wed and Thur nite.  He is self-contained, but young boys come with a lot of accessories - mostly food.  His Mom brought groceries and clothes and sleeping bag.  He slept on floor on Driver's side of bed and only asked two things:  Does Grpa snore and will he step on me if he gets out of bed.  I told him no on both accounts.

Driver & gson went swimming yesterday.  Grandson came home with beautiful tan.  Driver sunburned his whole head and face!  (he's quite bald)  I slathered "stuff" on Nate, but Grpa must have not used very much! Blush

I will miss Nate but only until Monday.  School starts Wed and we will have him every day after school until Mom gets off work.

Will rest until then.....

Well, another change which we will run up the pole and see if it flies....

Most of the state has storms popping up right now, and none of them are moving in the same direction at present. Actually, not much happening here. 91 and overcast. A regular cold snap tomorrow and the next few days. It's only supposed to get up to 89. Maybe we can go grocery shopping without perishing to death from the heat!

I don't know why anybody wants to ruin the taste of good rhubarb by adding strawberry.

I have long been aware of the lack of popularity that attends rhubarb pie. The first year and a half I was in college, we had rhubarb pie served as supper dessert from time to time. I would go around from table to table after supper, and collect all I wanted to eat. The last time we had the dish, I had to leave early, so I was not able to fill my tummy with the delicacy. Apparently the dietician saw the leftovers and decided not to serve it again. I do not remember how late she usually stayed; I do not remember seeing her around breakfast time.

I have made rhubarb pie myself once or twice, but it seems to me that making it is more trouble than it is worth.

If Mrs. Smith's dog gets into the rhubarb patch and eats all the rhubarb, how long will it be before the rhubarb comes back up?

The midlands of SC got a deluge and are under a flood warning. Over this way, rainfall was considerably less and here, none at all. We had some thunder pass south of us and the lights flashed a time or two, but nothing worse, so far anyway.

Willy, wish you were here

Ah, it's good to be home again.....

Managed to get tomorrow and Sunday off for a family picnic, so came home to the apartment tonight, to a deluge of rain just as I entered town.  As long as we don't get 5 inches of rain like parts of Minnesota got this morning, we should be fine.  Guess it's just one of those cycles......

Well, fish fry, then bed, see everyone later.....

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Joe, Walt and I did watch the game last night, and the Reds won!  Hopefully, they'll get another win tonight.  And thanks so much for taking care of breakfast this morning.  Hope you all have a very safe trip!!

I remember my parents liking rhubard, but to the best of my rememberances, none of us kids could stand it.

Well, the neighborhood kids struck again yesterday.  I happened to be outside, just before 3 p.m., and heard someone groaning, "Oh, Oh, OHHHHH".  It was one of the kids, turning on the fire hydrant.  This time, the cops kind of set them up a safe area to play in the water, and they had a blast, playing, lying down in the water in the street.

Everyone have a good day, keep as cool as possible, take care, and see you back in here this evening for our pizza fest.

Looks like off and on weather today.....Getting dark again.  Was sunny.  And before that,  .45" of rain in about 20 min....{unexpected too}....Checked the radar, and sure enuogh, a red spot had just passed over our area, and then a break and another {green}, mass of weather headed this way, guess that's what's making it dark now....It's arriving.

Still warm, and we're under a heat advisory until 8 pm.   I wonder how this off and on rain might effect that.  Got my mowing completed last evening, after it "cooled down"....Yea, it was 90 degrees when I started.  Finished up with the headlights on, but wasn't totally dark yet.

Edit:

90 degrees at almost 4 oclock.  That really surprised me as I had just stepped outside with our little pup, and it was like walking into an oven, almost overbearing.  But, I see they are saying the heat index {here}, is to be 105 to 110 this afternoon....so the humidity must be almost record high.

Good afternoon/evening.  Well, the kids did open the fire hydrant again (this time, early afternoon).  But they've all been gone for at least a couple of hours.  The water company came out, and turned off the water.  I think our ambient high got to 98, 99 degrees, but the heat index was anywhere between 110 - 115.

We even had a thunderstorm roll through about 4:30.  Lights went out for a few minutes, rain was pounding the windows on both the north and west sides of the house.  But, when Walt went out a few minutes ago to check the rain guage, just under a half inch of rain in it.

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Supreme

7.  Italian sausage

Everyone enjoy, have a good evening, stay cool, and take care.

And good evening to you and Walt. I am glad that the water company isn't over reacting to the kids opening the hydrant. Those here require a special tool and the city would go into apoplexy if someone managed to get one open. Some time ago, they found teenagers had climbed a water tower and were swimming around inside. Great gookamooka you should have heard the commotion. Not only were the kids arrested, but the tower was drained, the interior cleaned and downstream sites were tested for contamination. Now the tower sites, or at least that one, is inside a security fence. Yowzers....

Everyone take care

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Nice so far, with a temp in the mid 70s, going for a high of around 94, 95 degrees today.  Unfortunately, the heat index will be between 105 and 110.  By the time the Kentucky State Fair opens Thursday, the temp highs will be in the mid 80s.  And school starts here in Jeff. Co. Tuesday.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, toast.

Everyone have a very good morning, keep safe whatever/wherever you have to go this morning, and take care.

Nearly 80 here, per the home weather station, but it's cloudy, breezy, and the humidity is low, so it's kinda nice.

Gotta head for town for some "stuff."  Building a rack to store the rowboat and sailboat on and need some bolts.  And some stuff to fix up the upstair toilet...  Mom's coming here for a visit, don't you know, and that'll be "her" bathroom.

....87 here at 15 til 1.....and humid.  Just returned from the Church run.  In a half hour or so, it's off to Olive Garden to meet friends and our Sunday meal.  Excellent food there.

Then back home and catch what's left of the Nascar Sprint run at Michigan.  A bit of rain earlier {and I had the clean car out to take Jean to S S}, so drove the truck when I headed back for Church.

Tomorrow, we're to start about 4 really nice days of sunshine, 80 degree stuff, and lower humidity with a slight N wind to help it to that.....

I'm not sure what our current temp is.  We're supposed to get up to about 94, but Walt and I just came in from outside, and the air feels a little bit on the stuffy side; even with a little bit of a breeze blowing around.

Our Sunday Dinner is on the kind of light side today:

Grilled some hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and we have some grilled corn on the cob, grilled 'baked' potatoes, garden salad and potato salad.

Desserts:  How about some fresh cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi and papaya?  There's also some strawberry cheesecake, and some cherry cheesecake.  And, if Dan Braun and Mookie are around, some chocolate cheesecake.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, keep cool and take care.

P.S.  Don't see any sign of any of the kids trying to open the fire hydrant this afternoon.  Maybe they've got their fun in the water over with for the summer.
