The Official Eleanor Roosevelt (And Anything Else Non-Topical) Thread
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 22, 2010 10:10 PM

OK Kids...with the blessing of the moderators here, we have our very own thread about nothing.

Think of it as the "Seinfeld" of threads.

Please keep it clean....humorous....and even rail-related if you can.

Have fun!

I wonder if Eleanor preferred ditchlights that flashed at crossings?

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Did Eleanor see this one coming?

Ladies and Gentlemen, Hobos and Tramps, Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bowlegged ants.

I now stand  before you, and halfway behind you, to tell you a story I know nothing about.

Last night, at 6 o'clock this morning, and empty train loaded with bricks came up the back alley in front of my house.

I ran outside, just in time to see King Arthur, sitting at the third side of a round table, eating vinegar with a fork.

If you don't believe my lie, it's true, ask the blind lady on the corner, she saw it too.  Too bad it was foggy.

Can someone - I'm thinking of Mike /wanswheel here - find and post a photo of Eleanor waving, preferably from the rear platform of a classic heavyweight observation car ? Then maybe someone else can download it and use it as their avatar . . . - Paul North.

Does the Peyote Cactus actually grow in the Dakotas, or do you have to import the buttons?

Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall.

Following Murphy's lead . . .

Old Dan Tucker was a mighty man,
And he washed his face in a frying pan.
He combed his hair with a wagon wheel,
And he died with a toothache in his heel.

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call

When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said;
"Keep YOUR HEAD''

Thanks, Murray.  Thumbs Up  But at the 1st one I get a ''YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO VIEW THIS PAGE'' message; the 2nd one is pretty darn close to what I had in mind; and the 3rd isn't bad either.

So, can you check and/ or fix that 1st link sometime ?  Thanks again.

Eleanor always did have a good radio face.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Eleanor always did have a good radio face.

Especially from the back seat of her Nash!

Actually railroad related
Posted by Murphy Siding on Friday, April 23, 2010 7:04 PM

The railroad version of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus:

We're driving down a highway that parallels the BNSF line accross northern S.D.  My wife is driving,  I am in the passenger seat.   As is the rule when we drive together, whoever has the steering wheel in front of them gets to drive, and whoever doesn't, gets to shut up about the driving.

We catch up with a westbound empty coal train that had a DP unit on the back.  As we are even with the back end of the train,  Mrs. Murphy rolls down her window and waves at the locomotive.  "That's strange"  she says, "they usually wave back".  So,  I explain about distributed power, and how the unit is controlled remotely from the front end of the train, etc....

"Oh", she replies.  Then,  she rolles down the window again, and honks the horn like crazy, waving at the empty locomotive.  "That engineer sure seems stuck up today"  she says, to no one in particular.  Off we go down the highway, oblivious.Sigh

Lucky for us, the engineer at the front end of the train was in a waving mood.Laugh

Is she blonde?

A blonde calls her husband at work one day and asks him, "Can you help me when you get home?"
"Sure," he replies. "What's the problem?"
"Well, I started a really hard puzzle and I can't even find the edge pieces."
"Look on the box," he said. "There's always a picture of what the puzzle is."
"It's a big rooster," she said.
The husband arrives home and tells his blonde wife, "Okay, put the corn flakes back in the box."
