JoeKoh

good morning

its about 5 miles for us to the tracks. If we hear a train on the scanner in the yard we can meet him at deleware bend or sherwood.Walt ther is a program for the computer that can show you where the trains are.Its called ATCS.I am sure someone in Louisville can hook you up.Q 509 is about ready to leave the yard and track inspectors are ready to get on the track.matt was on time for the bus.As for taxes they are done.Cw thanks for breakfast.time for a nap.got to go to town this afternoon.

stay safe

Joe

Thanks Joe for that info, don't have ATCS on 'puter but am quite aware of. Wouldn't make a lot of difference, by the time we heard it, got out the door, it would have passed by anyway.

(I don't/can't run like a teenager anymore.)

Get a lot of my info from Yahoo Groups. (Ky Railfanning, Louisville Railfanning.)

Mookie

Walt - need blanket and mug and.....rain bonnet.  Sigh

We are getting rain, then ice, then snow, then great irritation for 4 days.  The rain is nice, the ice is scary and the snow is .....white......

I think someone with the handle "diningcar" should be a good cook.  May have to change his name to "lunchbox"?

Remember when Houston Ed said his wife was a commercial cook?  She would watch tv and then cook during commercials?  My professional cook has a tendency to do that.  Makes me nervous, but he hasn't burned anything lately.  Knock wood.

Have my eye on a house that is literally a ROW from the BNSF main line and our favorite xing.  Just don't know what to do with the lady living in it.  Not enough room for 3.....Of course, if one of those fairly fast MT coal trains comes in from the east and goes on the #1 track to go around the yard and keep going out of town, decides to fall over - we could have a house full of BNSF memorabilia.  Mischief

Exciting!

I Got your mug and blanket down; the rain bonnet I didn't think about because it's not raining here!!Cool (and it's not Sunny either!)

Afternoon all.

Had a good day at school today. Looks like we will be getting hammered by 4-6inches of snow. Everyone batten down the hatches, and get ready for a cold spell!

I’m currently looking at scheduling my Freshman Classes. I’m wanting to know what classes I should take in order to have better chance at getting hired on with the railroad industry. Any pointers?

Have a good evening,

Justin

I missed the noon news here:  had to go pick up my prescriptions for the month.  But, from what I saw on the 6 a.m. news & forecast, we are only supposed to get one to two inches.  That will be all right with me, as temps are supposed to be in the mid 30s.  Hopefully, that will hold true!

The serving station has been restocked with beef stew and cornbread, salad, and I believe there is a pot of mild chili on there, also.

Not sure if Walt will make it back online and in here this evening or not:  his back decided to start shooting pains throughout his back, so he's flat against the couch.

Everyone enjoy your supper, whether it's 'here in the Flat Wheel', or at your own home, have a good evening, batten down the hatches, if you need to due to bad weather, and take care.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  We currently have a temp of 36 degrees F., with steady, light rain.  I'm sitting here at the puter, w/the front door open, watching the rain hit the pavement.

Justin, Lady sure is a cute little puppy!  Your Mom looks pleased with her!!  I'm sure you all are really enjoying her.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for hot tea are all fresh and ready to go.

On the serving station this morning:  the regular variety of doughnuts and danish, along with the regular bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, I'm not too worried about the weather, as we're to stay in the mid to upper 30s today, but it's looking like we could get, on Tuesday next week, 3 to 5 inches of snow (that bad, bad 4-letter word).

Mookie, here's your coffee mug, and your blankie for the hammock!  Or would you like it in one of the rockers, where we can look out the window at the trains going by this morning?  Seems like some pretty good traffic moving this morning!

Good mornng, it's Friday. 38 and cloudy, getting up to 50 later. The weather boffins say we could get 2-3" of SIDEWAYS rain today, and that we might as well leave our umbrellas home. Hammercy

Justin, the new girl is a real looker and seems to be adapting to her new life very well. I think she is a keeper.

A sad day here. A good friend of mine, age 56, passed away in his sleep night before last. He had been saying how bad he felt for the past week or so and that he needed an operation. How we manage to overlook the signs that in hindsight, fairly shouted at us!

Everybody have a great day and stay safe.

Mooks:

Slid thru Lincoln last night about 8:30 pm last night - be glad you're inside. Lotsa people had their ditchfinders on between Lincoln and Council Bluffs. NDOR's plows are obnoxious with all their lights, but a welcome sight (appears they got a late start)....More people in the ditches at Ashland (outlet mall area)then on the road.

...off to start turning rocks over.

Hello from Winston-Salem, NC:

I would hope we could see 50ish today Mr. Tom, seems that we will have some cold rain for a while here in the Piedmont. Has snow and ice last night and turned to rain about eight this morning.

Justin, the girl looks like she is at home, I would agree with Mr. Tom on that.

We lost one of our young people earlier this week, a student at NC State. A truly sad time for us here in WS.

Thanks for the coffee Miss Paula,

Piouslion

Tom....that is sad......Did your friend live alone....Did something prevent him from getting the medical help.....?  Too young to pass on....

Seems this massive Low system with all the moisture, is getting in place and will be providing lots of rain / snow and ice to some areas.  Our activity started at 9:10 this morning....Light snow to now steady rather light snow but grass is now covered....Forecast for our area now is anywhere from 3 to 6".....Farther east and south some areas {Wash / Phila}, area might see up to 15 to over 20" of the stuff.

Right now, we're above freezing:  35 plus derees and slowly warming.   Believe we'll miss the worst of it.

Well, the rain has started, but is in drips at present. The sideways blowing stuff is thankfully somewhere else.

My friend, Dan, was from here, but lived in Nicaragua and taught math at the American Missionary School. He lived with an adopted son. He was an interesting person in many respects and will be missed by people in several countries and states in the U S. Thanks for caring.

Important stuff:

1.  Tom, so very sorry to hear about your friend.  Friends are a precious commodity, and truly are missed when they pass on.

2.  Mookie, enjoyed our chat this morning, along with the trains.

3.  Joe and Quentin:  Looks like our forecast is changing, and not for the better.  Heard earlier about a possibility of a larger amount of snow for us.  They are now saying we could get two to four inches of snow tomorrow.  Along with the 3 to 5 on Tuesday. Disapprove

4.  Mudchicken, take care on your travels through Nebraska and wherever else you go.  May you make it safely back home!  I'll keep the hot cider available in here for you.

Here is our Friday Fish Fry menu:

FISH:  Cod, Perch, Halibut, Haddock, jumbo Shrimp, Salmon patties, Crab cakes

SIDE DISHES:  Cole slaw, Corn on the cob, Cornbread, Baked beans, Mac & cheese, Fries, Mashed taters & beef gravy, Baked apples, hush puppies, breaded fried mushrooms

DESSERTS:  Apple, Peach and Cherry cobblers, Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and Pecan pie.

Sarah and I are going out tonight, to an 'internet conference' at one of our local Holiday Inns.  Dinner provided.  So Walt will have the house to himself (except for the cats and dog) while we are gone.

Guess that's about it for now; need to go get laundry out of dryer, fold and put away.  See everyone later, and you all take care, keep safe, don't go out unless you have to.

Afternoon all.

Tom, I’m sorry to hear about your friend passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

School was released early today. We got out at 1:00PM. At least we don’t have to make it up though!

Snow is falling wet, and hard. The scanner is just buzzing with slide off’s in I-74 westbound. I sure hope that everyone in those wrecks aren’t hurt to badly.

Thanks for the comments on Lady. She is fitting in nicely here with our family.

CW, thanks for supper! I will have some Cod w/tarter sauce please!

Have a good, and safe evening!

Justin

Lotsa people had their ditchfinders on between Lincoln and Council Bluffs.

Would it be possible to outlaw ditchfinders and their use? Of course, such action could well reduce tow truck operators' income--yet outlaws would still have and use theirs. Smile

.....It is looking like Winter wonder land here in our part of Indiana....As of now we have about 5" of snow since a bit after 9 this morning.  And we seem to be on the outer edge {northwest}, of the main weather maker.  Just watched reports that Washington will be looking at 20 to 30" of the stuff by Saturday evening....Other areas in that region will be hit hard too....Just heard Amtrak is cancelling trains....A flash back in memory as I just typed that......My memory seems to recall trains were what really did run in times like this {weatherwise}, back decades ago....But I also realize the support staff and equipment was in place {and people too}, to allow such trains to fight thru such extremes.  Now it appears, very early in times like this weekend, They {Amtrak}, pulls out pretty early.  Guess the other side of that is....they understand they don't have the equipment, and people to safely fight thru these conditions.

Fortunately, it's not critically cold.....Just a tick below freezing now.  Snow is wet and hanging on the trees like a pic. post card....

I vote we send all our snow - new and old to Quentin - he seems to be the only one enjoying it.

Sir Chicken - I am so glad you didn't call as you went through.  Morpheus was singing to me about that time.

Does Willy know that is the reason we got snow - a chicken from the west blowing through the area at a high rate of speed?

Now remember Jen.....a short time ago, I requested you folks install that snow fence on the eastern border of Ne bresky to stop all of it that thinks it's eastbound.....It really makes me squirm to say it's enjoyable.....

Half time at our ball game is over.....and must go edge those {Pacers}, on....Believe we can take Detroit tonight.

Go Pistons!  (I grew up in the Detroit area in the Dave DeBusschere era).

No reports on snow accumulation from MD yet.  At this moment it looks like they're in the rain, not the snow.

Daughter reports that she and hubby have had their purchase offer accepted and are buying a new house.  Papa volunteered to watch the baby while they pack, etc.  I suspect I'll end up towing a trailer back and forth instead....

About the time I learn a program , a new one pops up and voids the old one. HEH HEH. The same thing with cell phones.  However; life is still good.  Respectfully, Cannonball
