Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Hope you all had a very good evening.

Coffee, juices and other morning hot (and cold) beverages are fresh and ready.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAY EATON!! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day  (I know you don't always post over here, but maybe you do read what's going on here, and what everyone has to say.)  I hope you have a very, very happy birthday, and may all your birthday wishes come true!!

On the serving station this morning:  blueberry muffins, bagels, bear claws, or you can have buttermilk pancakes w/plenty of nice, hot maple syrup, with your choice of bacon, sausage (links & patties) or homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns or tater tots.

Does anyone remember or know what Jay's favorite dessert is?  I know one of his favorite foods is anchovie pizza, so maybe we'll have mid week pizza fest this afternoon and tonight.

We'll have to pry the grandson off the basketball court:

Sunny and warm here - a balmy 21F.  With a light dusting of snow overnight.  Gotta go out and clean that dusting off the driveway so the sun can melt the rest.

.....28.2 degrees at this hour of the morning.....bright overcast skies, and it looks like the sun could break thru any time, but weather forecast calls for mostly cloudy today.  No snow.

Listening to a stereo AM radio station over several States away as I do my morning computer work.  The station is broadcast over the internet, besides being on 1620 on the AM dial.  location:  Ligonier, Pa.  Ligonierradio.com   Not sure of the status of AM stereo broadcast stations situations now....Some years back, one of my GM cars did have a stereo AM radio in it, but none since....and my little truck has the top radio available when it was purchased, including a capacity of 6 CD's.

Cannonball....I was a bit surprised of how the tractor and trailer stayed connected, especially, the trailer being all bent out of shape but not ripped in two pieces, etc.....I suppose one item that contributed was the train's slow speed....At least it looked to me to be rather slow....In fact, from our advantage point, it appeared the tractor would be useable after some probably needed repairs.

Quentin; your right on the slow train. Kinetic energy is an awsome force.  The jaws on the tractor saddle had no slack for the pin to pop out. So it's just hanging on the pin.  Hopfully the frame ain't warped. Maybe clean seat and replace right drive wheels , check alignment and " on the road again" HEH HEH.  3 cheers for the engineer " big holeing his train." Izzat railroad slang ??  ~~~ Respectfully, Cannonball

NOOOOOOOOOOOO.......

Driver saw a squirrel burying a peanut in a mound of snow on the side of a garage roof on Monday.  Sun has been out and the peanut should now be in the gutter of the roof - snow all melted.  So don't want any more "peanut cover"!!!!!

I realize that pin connection to tractor 5th wheel is a connection pretty tuff to separate.....{by accident}....But, more importantly, I agree.....The seat will need cleaning....Maybe hang a deodorizer on the dash.....ha.

Don't know what CW has instore for supper, but steaks on the grill and watching trains go by gets my vote!

Steaks are just coming off the grill, and being placed on the serving station.  There's baked potatoes w/fixin's (sour cream, butter, etc.) and tossed salad to go with the steaks.

And, I want to publicly apologize to Jay and everyone on here.  Yes, I remembered his birthday, but I remembered it a day early!  Hope Jay and all of you will forgive me for getting a day ahead of myself.  (We all make mistakes, and it looks like today was my day to royally err!!)

Hi there. It looks like Chinese for supper here in Carolina. We had a nice day with moderate temps and plenty of sun, and tomorrow should be the same.

Jay, a happy birthday to you, whenever it is, with many happy returns.

Everybody take care

Quentin, actually, if you walk out our front door and follow our sidewalk to the main city side walk and look to the south (left turn, and in Fall and Winter when there aren't any trees blooming, etc.)we can see the NS tracks; (ex K & I T ) not well, and about 2 1/2 blocks away.

Not great for seeing things in detail, but we can see them.

Heck, it's 13 miles to the nearest tracks for me (not counting the N scale stuff upstairs).  I can hear the DS on my home scanner, but it would be rare that I could get from home to the tracks in time based on what I normally hear.

Heh, it's less than 25 feet to the "O" Scale stuff here.

If we go west out of the house, we can go right to an NS control point; an interlocking about 4 blocks away; a lot of my pics. have come from there. We hear things on the scanner, but generally aren't fast enough to get over there and see things while they're happening.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jay!!!  I got confused on which day it actually is/was, hope it's a Great one.

Hope it's not a real "Taxing" day!

Coffee is on, (and water for tea) stuff is on the "Warmer Bar", and CW will be in later for the real breakfast menu. (or if somebody else gets there first.)

Mook, your cup, (and blanket) are down and ready to go!

Up early today, 4:30 AM, but its later now. WE may get more rain in the AZ mountains at Prescott and snow at Flagstaff. The gound remains saturated from the storms two weeks ago.

My wife and our youngest daughter (who is having a milestone birthday) leave on 2-5 for a six night stay in Paris so I will be the "Chief cook and housekeeper" for several days which leaves dear wife with apprehensions. I have told her about the meals in Kentucky hosted by CW and several of you and she suggests I take my meals with you. My reputation, not entirely earned, is that I can cook anything but no one can eat it.

Anyway I shall have more time for these conversations and truthfull RR stories. Aren't they all.

Not great for seeing things in detail, but we can see them.

As for me, I live here on 6th Avenue here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and when I am looking out my front door I am facing east. The Sioux Falls Federal Credit Union is across the street from me, and I have a full view of their employee's parking lot. Beyond that, is the BNSF yard lead which then runs across 14th Street, past Howes Oil Company, and continues in a southerly direction toward Avera-McKennen Hospital, which is roughly six or seven blocks south of here. I live between 13th and 14th Streets. I can often hear the rumble of the BNSF motive power approaching 14th Street even before the horns are sounded. BNSF's main yard is across the Big Sioux River, which is roughly one block north of my house.

One block to the west of me is the mainline of the Ellis & Eastern Railroad. The Ellis & Eastern is owned by Concrete Materials and they haul the raw aggregate which goes into the manufacturing of concrete. They have four locomotives, two of them are GP-10s, and I am not sure what the other two are. They may be a variation of an SW-1200. The C&NW used to run trains over this line up until 1988 when they abandoned operations in this area, and Concrete Materials purchased the line. This railroad line was originally laid by the Rock Island in 1893, I think, because there is a two-span bridge which crosses the river northwest of my house and the builder's plate on the south end of the bridge indicates that it was erected in 1893.

Walt - need blanket and mug and.....rain bonnet.  Sigh

We are getting rain, then ice, then snow, then great irritation for 4 days.  The rain is nice, the ice is scary and the snow is .....white......

I think someone with the handle "diningcar" should be a good cook.  May have to change his name to "lunchbox"?

Remember when Houston Ed said his wife was a commercial cook?  She would watch tv and then cook during commercials?  My professional cook has a tendency to do that.  Makes me nervous, but he hasn't burned anything lately.  Knock wood.

Have my eye on a house that is literally a ROW from the BNSF main line and our favorite xing.  Just don't know what to do with the lady living in it.  Not enough room for 3.....Of course, if one of those fairly fast MT coal trains comes in from the east and goes on the #1 track to go around the yard and keep going out of town, decides to fall over - we could have a house full of BNSF memorabilia.  Mischief

Exciting!

Thanks for the birthday greetings-early is OK.  I'll be back in the corner drinking coffee, eating cake, giving advice, expounding on the meaning of life, and all that.

Anybody seen any good trains lately?

Good Thursday morning, everyone, and sorry about getting in here so late.  It seemed I couldn't get fully awake this morning (that, and Walt was up and getting on the puter when I first woke up).  Went back to bed and didn 't wake up again until just before 9.

Walt, thanks for getting the coffee started, fixing the juice, and heating the water for our tea drinkers.

Since it is now 9:30, I've set out some muffins, bagels and bear claws, and there's plenty of birthday cake left.  Jay, you, especially, get at least two more slices of it!  And Mookie and I will be more than  glad and happy to help eat what's left from the big sheet cake.Smile,Wink, & Grin

For lunch today, I'm making beef stew with the  steaks left over from last night.  And there'll be fresh-from-the-oven cornbread to go with it, and tossed salad.

There will probably be plenty of have for supper tonight.  You all know I make big pots of the stews and soups around here!  But if you want anything different for supper, let me know, and I'll get to preparing/making it.

Today is supposed to be a pretty good day around here.  High about 45, maybe just a degree or two cooler.  Then, sometime after midnight tonight, the rain comes back in.  Supposed to start as a wintry mix to the north and east of us, so hopefully, we'll only get the rain, until Saturday morning, when we could see 1 to 2 inches of snow.

......No snow.  {yet}.....Normal Winter temps this morning and overcast, but bright sky...

But.....We're under a Winter storm condition coming this way.  The latest weather maps I've seen this morning shows us on the northern edge of this massive stuff coming up from Az , NM way.....Seems it will start {in this area}, overnight and right now....the map showed 1 to 3" of the stuff, but local forecasts are leaning more to the 6" area by Saturday morning.

It would be typical to have another 5 or 6" snow fall....We've had one several weeks back and two a season {of that size}, is about normal here....Annual avg. snow fall in our area near 27".....But they don't seem to know it's exact path yet.

We'll see what really happens by this time tomorrow...On the edge or a bit more of it.  W V folks seem to be on line to get up to 12" of the stuff as it heads east.  Home area of Pennsylvania will be in it's path too for at least some of it....Elevation in that home area is roughly 2,000' and that invites snow....
