This is hardly the first time that folks have taken exception to the off-topic nature of the Diner and Lounge - even though railroad matters are regularly discussed on both.  The Lounge has frequently been a showcase of railroad photography, in fact.  And, in both cases, we've gotten to know each other a little better - so much so that there have been a number of "meets" amongst the denizens of the forum.

I wonder how some of our current forum regulars would have reacted to the long-running "Nora's Stupid Question Thread?"   We all learned from that thread, and at least one person (Nora) got involved in railroading, no doubt as a direct result.

When this Diner thread was first started, its model was a similar thread on the Model Railroader forums.  That one is up to version XXIII and still running.

So, how about a little peace and understanding?  People get on the forums to share experience and learn.  It's easy to get caught up with our "seniority," but a new rail enthusiast is just that - new.  We need to nurture them.  Teach them respect for the railroad.  We're not doing that if we make them feel like they're intruding on our personal little world.

I would like to apologise for the 3*s in my post description of our supper. The word police are on the job. Iwonder if parsnip soup would get the same ??  If someone studied my screen name, maybe it would be cause for a drone to take me out. If I offended some one forgive me as I am " of a certain age"

Just a note- the forum has some sort of auto-snagger, that is set up to automatically ***** out some preset words.  Which words they are, is probably built into some prepackaged software.  Why in the world, it chose to censor the common name for German cooked cabbage is beyond me.

One could also argue that those individuals that are constantly in a snit over the existence of this thread need to find more humor in life. Whistling

I find lots of humor in life.  I said multiple times that I couldn't care less if this thread existed or not (even if I didn't fully understand the purpose of it).  That was never my issue.  My issue was that there was a  very "uneveness" in how the threads were managed.

that's all.  Like I said, this isn't my sandbox.  But sometimes it is nice to know some of the rules...

And yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, I have stumbled into the diner.

The one. The only. The zug.

PS. if you want humor,I can tell you the one about the 3-legged chicken.  Or the one about the ***** ***** in the confessional.  although I don't know if the censors will allow me.  Religion and politics and all that.... :P

PPS. y'all have a good night.  I'm off to work now  - 4 industries to serve, then its right back out in the morning to chase the 1st run of a new shortline.  Maybe I'll stop in for a donut early in the am...  Wink

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

Ok, my intent isn't to argue. I just honestly don't believe that there is a particular clique that gets special treatment from the mods. That doesn't mean that I agree with all recent decisions from the moderators -- I'm just not seeing what you are. 'Nuff said on my part.

And by all means stop by for a donut in the morning!

Evening all.   I finally made it in here.  Overslept this morning, and had to get ready to do the Produce this morning.  Ladies who open the gym got there early, and so did the truck!  Only had 68 people, so I managed to be back home by 10 a.m.  They brought on the truck:  apples, oranges, romaine lettuce, carrots, strawberry/banana yogurt, onions and potatoes.

The new furnace should be connected tomorrow.  I think we'll actually have uniform heat in the house tomorrow!  Yea!!!!

For supper tonight, we have our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta.  Burritos, tacos, Spanish rice, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, etc. are on the serving station.

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.  And Ray, thank you for taking care of breakfast this morning!

It is good to be back among friends and even a few not-so-friendlies.  Makes life interesting!

So who exactly don't you find friendly?

Personally I like all y'all...

You guys (collectively) just need to find more humor in life and avoid the urge to run away from the forums each time you get in a snit.

I am not going to kiss and tell, but will say that I agree with you on the humor.  But you should know from my postings that I laugh a lot when I read the forum.

I didn't run away - I would have stamped my foot/paw, but no one would know.  I was just protesting and as usual time healed the wound.  Sometimes silence says more than an entire dictionary of words.  Don't have snits anymore.  Outgrew them about 60 years ago.....

Do the new diners know that I pre-lick all of them - just to be sure they are of finest quality?

Regular employment is now a thing of the past for me (intentionally).

Now I'm working on that list of stuff I've been building up in the back of my mind for the past few years.

Not that there's any hurry to get it done....   Big Smile

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Mookie, thanks for coming in early, to help with the doughnuts for this morning.  And I've got the coffee going, have fresh oj made, and there's also other fresh juices ready.  Plenty of hot chocolate and hot water for hot tea.

The doughnuts range from plain yeast, cake, apple-cinnamon, long johns (cream and vanilla with chocolate icing on  them), and the round, wholeless doughnuts w/cherry, raspberry, peach, apple, blueberry fillings in them.  And yes, Larry, I remembered your bear claws!

I have some lunch/supper going in the Crock Pots/slow cookers for you all.  Have no idea what time they will get the everything up and running (I haven't even seen any new thermostats to go with this new furnace).

We currently have a temp of 39 degrees, with rain on its way.  And we'll have off and on rain showers throughout today and tomorrow.

Everyone have a good morning, keep safe, take care and stay warm.

Goom mornin and thanks for the donuts. 40 degrees and clear in Carolina this lovely day, expecting a high in the sixties and a thunderstorm tomorrow. Larry, congratulations on your retirement.I hope you enjoy all your projects. Paula, it looks like we need to ante up for a new furnace. The old one turns 50 this year, so I guess its about time. Everybody take care.

Good afternoon, and guess what, everybody:  our house is getting warm!! The guys finished up and left about a half hour ago.

I've got lunch on the serving station:  beef stew w/fresh-from-the-oven cornbread, and there's garden salad to go with the stew.

Desserts:  chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, pineapple upside down cake, and apple, blueberry, and cherry pies.

Tom, sorry to hear about your furnace.  My, that is a loooonnng time for a furnace to keep running, isn't it?  (Since this new furnace of ours  is the only one I've ever had, I'm not too familiar about the lifespan on them.)

Everyone have a good afternoon, stay warm, stay dry (if you're like us, and getting rain), and take care and keep safe.

Things were a little warm in town yesterday.A spark from a battery charger on an ambulance caused a fire at the firehouse.

Just saw video of that as linked from a fire service site.  Lucky they're a staffed department, or they would have been in the same boat as a department in Greene County, NY that pretty much lost everything.

Time to tiptoe over and check out the lunch menu...

Hello All: We are in the middle of an ice storm today. I had an errand this morning. Their driveway is on a slant. I put my truck in park and as I was getting out, the truck started sliding back to the street with the rear wheels still locked. Now that is slick. So far the power outages are spotty. I lost power for only 15 minutes.

Good evening. It was raining here when I rolled out of bed at approximately 5:00 this morning, I looked out my front door and my door was covered with a layer of ice. I was going to make the trek on foot up to Lewis Drug to pick up my photo order this afternoon, but knowing that I would be walking on a layer of ice, I decided to stay put and not go anywhere this morning.

Currently, we have 21 degrees F. here in Sioux Falls and some light drizzle coming down.

CW, and Mutt, congratulations in the installation of your new furnace!

Precip is holding off here, although I've heard indications on the scanner that other areas have gotten some snow.  Cleaned an inch off the driveway this morning, but it's stayed clear ever since.

I've been through a major ice storm.  You can have it.  Two inches of ice on everything and no power for a week...

Son called to advise that a couple firefighters from his department fell through the floor at a fire in MD.  No serious injuries, but certainly a scare for all involved.  He wasn't there.

Time to look for another project!  (Plenty to choose from...)

We got sneezed on throughout the day.  We continue to hover around 33 with humidity that is 20% higher than Houston!  What a bite!

Can't even go to sunny southern California - they are at high tide and moving around!  Blah!

My neighbor called. 86 degrees in Texas says she. She asked me if her house was OK. I told her a big tree fell on it. She says I have a mean streak in me.

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Nice and pleasant here in the house this morning!  So what, if it's a little bit foggy outside, and getting drizzling rain.  We're comfy, dry and warm.  It was nice being able to go to sleep, without having the covers pulled up over your head, just to keep warm, and having to sleep in socks because your feet are too cold.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready to go.  And on the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage patties and links (all pork, by the way, on the sausages), hash brown taters, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Mookie, how about we pull our rockers over to the picture window, and watch the trains going by this morning?  We haven't done that in ages.  And we can plan who we're going to pick on around here.EvilWink

Enjoy your breakfast and your morning, be safe and take care.
