......Many areas are so much worse off with this terrible weather than we have been these past two weeks or so....I just saw some live {news}, reporting from out on the plains of Nebraska.....Terrible conditions.....

Here, this morning....we had 14.4 degrees and very little wind two hrs ago or so.....They have been saying today would be a really nasty, cold January day and then we will enter into a trend of moderation as the new week unfolds.

I know what Winter can do....Having grown up in southwestern Pennsylvania in a small town of about 2100' elevation, so our warm thoughts go out to folks who are under these extreme conditions.  Jen, hope you and Driver are facing this stuff just by looking out the windows.

And the scenes from Europe are pretty extreme too....Areas that generally get a lot of rain in Winter, are being subjected to the real Winter effects.

Global Warming.....?????  Who knows about what is going on....For sure, something has jet streams, ocean temps. and currents all out of the normal routine so....something is really upsetting our climates "normal" activity with instead, extremes.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Ray, thanks very much for breakfast this morning.  I kept trying to get in here, but had slight, minor computer problems that kept me from getting here.

Everything looks really good this morning!

We have the cloud cover, so we only got down to 18 overnight, and supposed to get up to 24 degrees F. this afternoon, 30 tomorrow, and 32 for Tuesday.  I sure hope so.

I've got Sunday Dinner going in the Crock Pots:  Beef roast w/potatoes, carrots, onions, and plenty of gravy, cornbread, homemade buttermilk biscuits, green beans, peas, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cream style corn, cole slaw and garden salad.  A little something for everyone, I think.

And for dessert:  homemade from scratch, brownies w/nuts and chocolate icing on them, Dutch apple pie, cherry and blueberry cobblers.

Everyone enjoy your day, stay warm, keep safe, and take care.

Good Morning everyone:

We had an overnight low of 20 here in Alamo City.  If we had dropped into the teens, that would have been the first time since 1989 we has to back to back lows in the teens.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday, dress accordingly, please allow time for your cars/trucks to warm up, and be safe in these temperatures!

This statement was issued by the National Weather Service in Key West, Florida yesterday:

CONDITIONS WILL BE QUITE CHILLY ACROSS THE LOWER KEYS EARLY THIS
MORNING AS WELL...WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S...AND
WIND CHILLS IN THE UPPER 30S TO LOWER 40S. HIGHS TODAY WILL REMAIN
QUITE COLD...WITH READINGS ONLY EXPECTED TO REACH THE MID 50S.

SINCE THESE COLD CONDITIONS ARE RARE IN THE FLORIDA KEYS...RESIDENTS
ARE ENCOURAGED TO DRESS WARMLY AND TAKE PROPER CARE OF SENSITIVE PETS
OR PLANTS.

ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH...LOCATED AT MILE MARKER 31.3 IN BIG PINE
KEY...WILL BE OPERATIONAL AS A COLD WEATHER SHELTER FOR THE LOWER
KEYS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 50 DEGREES. HOURS OF OPERATION
ARE FROM 900 PM TO 700 AM.

These people are serious sissies. I'd like to march 'em all up here to Nebraska and make them stand outside in some subzero temperatures for a while. Perhaps I'm cruel and insensitive, but 50 degrees is just simply not cold.

Still looks like we might hit 30 degrees by Tuesday.

Willy, I am in total agreement with you on this point. I used to have a couple friends who lived down in Loserana (my deliberate misspelling of Louisiana), who would think 50 degrees was pretty cold, but have never experienced a blizzard with sub-zero temperatures in the upper mid-west.

Still looks like we might hit 30 degrees by Tuesday.

.....Cold weather in southern Florida such as being experienced now is cold.....I have experenced 47 degrees while in Miami many years ago and while waiting for a flight back to the north, I about froze.....I don't know what it is, but I'm saying I was cold....We have experienced some very uncomfortable cold at Disney World too....Especially remember waiting for the Monoral train {outside}, at the Polynesian Hotel at night when the weather was down similar to above and about shivered my skin off....Of course a person is not dressed properly {for that}, sometimes, especially there and that enters into it too.  Sweat shirts being over at our hotel, {Comtempory}, didn't do us much good not being with us.....

You can see from where I grew up that I know what northern cold is too.

Now for them to be commenting about opening shelters, etc., when temps get into the 40's is a bit difficult to understand.   No doubt, the buildings are not constructed with heating in mind when located in southern Fl. and on out on Key West.

Willy: We were at minus 10 again this morning. Barbara asked me if we could go to Key West early this year. We like Sugar Loaf Key which is about 12 miles before Key West. I'll wait and see what March looks like.
We booked the boat trip out to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas Islands last year. I recommend that trip.

Quentin, it is true. The sub-tropical climate of South Florida does not induce builders to plan for central heating. Even in Ocala, the weather is expected to be mild--but one Christmas vacation (in the fifties) when I was in college in Bristol, Tennessee, some of the girls from the more northern climes went home with a girl from Ocala, and were quite cold during their stay, because there was no heat in the house.

Good Monday morning ,everyone.  Hope you all enjoyed the dinner yesterday of the roast, taters, carrots, etc.  I thought I'd get you some diversity of meal choices from all the soups, etc.

We went out last night, and played pool. Walt bought me a cue stick that is just my size (kid size), and I managed to get about 3 or 4 balls into a pocket.  Need a lot of practice.  We all had new cue sticks, so it was a learning experience for all three of us last night.  But it was fun, and nice to be out of the house for a few hours.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready to go.  All the regular breakfast menu is on the warmer serving station.

This morning, I have to be go for another mammogram.  They want to make sure that the knot from a couple of months ago is completely gone (thought it might be just a calcium deposit, or something), so they want to do a follow up this morning.  So, just in case I'm not back, there's plenty of roast, etc., in another extra large Crock Pot for lunch.  It's already plugged in and is on low, so it'll be ready when you all are.

Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, stay warm, be safe and take care.

Good morning and thanks for breakfast. Currently 15 degrees and clear in Carolina. I am really concerned about things with water in them, even though they all have antifreeze. This kind of weather is most unusual for this part of the country. Paula, I hope your test comes up negative. Keep us advised. I haven't played pool in years. it was a lot of fun, but I seemed to lose a lot of times. Everybody take care and STAY WARM, especially you MOW types

Paula, I too am hoping that your mammogram comes out negative, and that you are not having to deal with *** cancer. I lost both of my parents to cancer. I am having some medical issues of my own, and for this reason I am no longer able to work and consider myself retired.

Right now we have a temp of 14.5 degrees here in Sioux Falls and the wind chill factor is at 7 F. It is supposed to warm up to about 31 here tomorrow afternoon. To the rest of you folks out there, stay warm!

Good news from radiologist!  Nothing showed up on mammogram or ultrasound (they did both today, so I'm good to go until my regular check in July.

Current temp here in Louisille if 28, or 29 degrees.  Supposed to make it to at least 30, if not 32 mid afternoon.

Lunch is now on the warmer/serving station.  Leftover roast, taters, carrots, etc., along with some country  pork backbone ribs.

Everyone stay warm, safe and take care.

Temps here in the mid-20's, and no sign of the forecast snow just yet, but we're ready.

Evening all.....

Cold here, about 20 outside in Perrysburg, OH, but tonight is the first night since Thursday night that the semi has been shut off.  Had some sad news, the day before I left out, an 8 year old boy fell through the ice on the river a few blocks from my apartment, they found his body just after I left for work on Tuesday the 5th.  Thoughts and prayers are with the family....

Off to Buffalo, NY, in the morning, see everyone later...

That's the third "through the ice" incident I've heard of in the past few days, with a toll of something like five now.

It doesn't take much ice to hold you up, but it does take enough.  When you add snowmobiles, four wheelers, or just more people, things can get dicey in a hurry.

You also have to be cautious in areas where ice fishing is popular - they do, after all, cut holes in the ice.  Just had one of those here (he survived).

Those "thru the ice" tragedy reports are troubling, but I understand it happens each season.  When I see photos of people ice fishing, etc....and near by 4-wheelers parked {on the ice}, and so on....That just seems {to me}, to be taking uneeded chances with peoples lives.  See such up in Michigan quite often in this season.

Here, we have a sunshine morning.  Temp dropped to 16 plus right at sunup, but we're to be in a slow warmup today and on thru this week.

One of the things I need to do is get my little truck thru the car wash, to get the salt off of it...Car hasn't been out in it.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast.  We are having some computer issues, so that's why I wasn't in this morning, before Tuesday Produce.  We seem to have contracted a virus, that somehow managed to get through our McAfee Security Virus.  Internet provider said they have gotten several calls on this particular virus (Beware of anything saying "Personal Security)!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still working on getting rid of it, so you all know what is happening, if you don't see Walt and me on here much for the next little bit.

We had 46 people for Produce today.  Not too bad, considering all this cold weather.  I did find out that I was really missed last week.  The older lady who took over writing the names down, and calling the people up, had a little bit of trouble, because the people weren't listening to her, and going on up to get stuff, when they had not been called.  Didn't have too much of a problem with that today, although there were a few who managed to slip in "under the radar", before their names were called.  Guess next week, I'll have to "Put the fear of the little Indian's wrath" in them all.

For lunch and supper today, I've got a big ole pot of cabbage on, with a brisket roasting in the oven.  We also have burgers, fries, roasted red potatoes, broccoli, brussels sprouts, lima beans, and cream style corn w/homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Desserts:  chocolate cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following cobblers:  apple, blueberry, cherry,  and peach.

Randy ,so very sorry to hear about your neighbor.  I'll be praying for the family.

Everyone have a nice afternoon, and I'll try to be back in later.

As I drove across the bridge across Lake Champlain a couple of weeks ago I saw a number of ice fishermen, some with shanties, on the ice in a small bay, within sight of open water.  There were also some 4-wheelers and even a regular truck out there, too.

afternoon

went out and got the salt of the buick at the carwash. As for ice fishing last year near port clinton had a group of fisherman caught on an ice flow. They used planks to get from shore to the ice island. It broke off sending them into Lake Erie. All were rescued. There extra equipment was left on the flow.County officals decided to put in a "stupidity" clause for ice rescues. If it was found you shouldn't have been out on the ice,you are going to get a big ticket. Cw thanks for supper tonight.Time to get ready for work.

A nippy one here tonight.  As of this moment, we have no temperature at all (0F).  Projected low is -2, but that's at the airport.  We'll probably see less.

I've been getting spam telling me that the settings for one of my email accounts have been changed.  If I'd just gotten one, I might have been tempted to bite, but when I see several in one day, all with a slightly different format, I know they're bogus.

Besides, I administer this particular account...

Lots to accomplish tomorrow.  Time to head for bed.

Good Wednesday morning, all.  I was finally able to get in here, after several tries this morning.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and other hot beverages are ready to go; and on the serving station, you'll find all the regular breakfast items.

Still fighting this virus on the puter, hope we get it straightened out soon.

Everyone have a good morning/day, and I'll try to get back in later to post our lunch and supper menus.

Sorry, Larry, they sent me to a place across town today, loading for places colder (it was colder in Atlanta than in Buffalo this morning, don't hear about that often).  Good thing, too, because I think my bunk heater just went on the fritz, it's having a hard time lighting off.

About the boy who went through the ice, found out last night my sister knew the family, she had one of the siblings in daycare.  The part of the river where he fell in is a prety swift section of river, the only reason there was ice on it was because of an ice jam, probably at either the CN/WC bridge, or the old Milwaukee Road bridge.  I'd prefer to do my ice fishing the Foster Brooks way- by the time I got done cutting a hole in the ice for the boat, I'd be too tired to fish!

Well, see everyone later....
