cherokee womanSarah and I went to her favorite pizza place last night, and while we were waiting, we played a game of pool. That's the first time in 20 years that I've hada pool cue in my hands.
I’m not sure if it is 42 years (five-year reunion) or 47 ½ years since I played pool. Maybe I’d better not even think of it is a 20 year lapse produces such results.
We are having a warm spell (daytime temperatures in the sixties), and expect more rain about Tuesday.

......Boy.....playing pool.....Haven't done that in decades. {late 40's and early 50's}, In our small home town back in Pa., we had a pool room in our {20's and 30's}, famous Hite House, and our group of young fellows played a lot of pool.....and yes, that was fun. Some days, could just do so...so, and at times it seems it all came together with running the balls pretty good. A fun time.
Bright sunshine here this morning and also a pretty good frost.....34 was what I saw on the instrument about 8 am. {coldest morning this season}, Tomorrow it should start warming a bit and continue into the new week.
Everyone enjoy the sunny weekend.

Morning folks!
Thanks for the very welcoming email Cherokee Woman!
Thought I would stop in for a quick Cafe Diner bite... and leave with this warming cooking idea for you all.
Here is some warm slow-cooker Black-Eyed Pea Stew for these cooling days....

Good Saturday morning, everyone. Joe, thanks so very much for the fine breakfast this morning. I am moving very slowly this morning. Current temp is about 41 degrees, and our high today may make it up to 47, possibly 48 degrees, but it'll be mostly cloudy, with some off and on drizzle.

It was fun, but my back is telling me all about it this morning. All that bending, and twisting has my back sore and achy this morning. I'm not that good playing pool (need a shorter cue stick, for one thing), and definitely need more practice. It was close to 10:00 when we got home.
Everyone have a good day, be careful with whatever you have planned for the day, and be sure to come back in tonight for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.
Good Saturday morning

Larry, I’m sorry I didn’t wish you a happy birthday earlier. I was at school when I posted that. So…
Just got done with TRAINZ06’. I had 3 SD70’s with a Alumina ore train that was over 5,000ft. long. Not quite a SD70(M), but it worked.
Have a good evening. See you all later.

Larry, hope you and everyone else enjoyed the beef sandwiches (roast, steak) and the fries, along with the apple pies and ice cream. (I made eight pies last night, and baked four of them this morning.
And I've just got more of everything on the warmer bar for tonight.
It's been a very busy day for me, between my baking and cooking here in the Cafe/Diner, and washing up winter jackets here at home. Haven't touched the heavier weight coats yet. Hopefully, I won't have to fool with them for at least a couple of weeks yet.
Everyone enjoy your supper, have a good evening and take care.
tree68Thank y'all very much (that time I spent in OK showing through). Just popping in for lunch. Finished the fourth grade fire prevention presentations, now it's back for the fifth graders. Then I hit the road for a quick visit with grandson before I head to the conference. Mutt - what's that song again? (Like I don't have it memorized myself - S&G are a favorite of mine.)

Larry, It's "The 59th Street Bridge Song" (Feelin' Groovy) originally recorded on their "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" album and also appears on "The Concert in Central Park" CD.
Tom, Harper's Bazzar may have done it, but I'm much more familiar with the S & G version.
(especially since I have the S & G album from 196-? and the CD from 1982)

Willie: Did you see the snow forecast for central Pennsylvania.....That is not normal for this time of the year for that area. {See my earlier post}.
Afternoon all.
Well, I think my friends were just joshing me about the snow. It is still cold as could be here. Oh well 70's next week.
Me and my dad have sold $600 worth of BSA popcorn. That is enough for a 1 way Amtrak trip to Denver! I will have to keep up the selling.
You all have a good day/evening!
Happy Birthday, Larry!
Another cold and gray day here. Why am I not surprised?
Over fall break my parents and I are going to Branson, MO for a little vacation. Forecasts for Branson on the days we'll be there call for sunny conditions and highs in the upper 60s. That will be nice after being stuck in the freezer here for weeks on end.

Seems in about three weeks, I'll be seeing those same numbers, maybe that's why the words to a Simon & Garfunkel song have been going through my head recently.

Happy Birthday to my favorite New Yawker. I sent you a birthday balloon yesterday to arrive today, but they shot it down and now you will have some major repairs. The firefighter I saw looked like he was taking out some frustration on the balloon on the ground. You go guy!
Think Dad ought to have his behind powdered!
Anyway - have a good birthday! And on a Friday, too!

Yes, I just saw home video of the "balloon" taking off....It looks now like a hoax.....smells like a hoax, and probably is a hoax. They were all present as the balloon was released in the video I just saw...So I wonder just what is next........??
Overcast and 40 plus degrees now.....dry. Pennsylvania {in some parts}, are forecast to get up to 12" of snow....burr......
I've been listening to the news reports regarding the "Baloon Boy" in Fort Collins, Colorado. It now appears that this was nothing more than a hoax which was planned and perpetrated by his parents who were seeking publicity. I hope they get a huge bill for the search and rescue effort.
Hey Larry, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Save a bear claw for me, CW.
Our temp this morning in Sioux Falls is 35 degrees, and not expected to get much warmer than that. At least it's not snowing here. It is supposed to get up to about 59 degrees on Sunday, which will be pretty nice.
Ray ooo ooo ooOOOOOo
Morning
happy birthday Larry!!.very chilly outside now with drizzle.Time to get matt to the bus stop.hes brushing his teeth now.
Good Friday morning ,everyone, and: HAPPY 59TH BIRTHDAY, LARRY!! Hope it is a very good, nice birthday for you today, with many blessings coming your way! Maybe the kids you'll be with at the school will sing Happy Birthday to you!!
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready.
On the breakfast bar this morning, the usual assortment of doughnuts and danishes, along with bagels and bear claws. (Just be sure to leave the two bear claws with the birthday candle in them for our birthday boy.) There's enough of everything for everybody!.
Larry, enjoy your day and your birthday to the fullest.
And everyone have a good morning, and everyone take care.
At the risk of promoting corporal punishment - the kid needs his behind powdered, even though I think he gets that he did a bad thing. Two bad things, actually. Talking about it at work, I was quite certain that what ended up being the case was the case. I wondered if they had perhaps searched the house. One of the first things I learned in a wildland search class, especially with kids.
I have a lot of experience launching weather balloons. As big as they are, they'll only lift 4-6 pounds tops. There's no way that balloon could have carried a six year old aloft.
But it sure got people going for a while.
It was just announced in the news that this six-year old kid was found safely in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was found hiding in the attic of his family's garage. He obviously knew he was in trouble with his parents and he chose to hide. I reckon this is GOOD news. Of course, a lot of people are saying that this balloon would have never had enough lift in order to carry him away, and I believe that.
Yes, I hope they find that little boy, safe and sound. He does look awfully little for a six year old, and I hope that he is just hiding somewhere.
When I came in here to check the news on the computer....the TV still had not found the youngster. Someone had commented on a "square box" like contraption was attached to the helium "balloon". Sure hope the boy was lying and the small child was not in such a contraption.
As for this "balloon" being strong enough...{enough lift}, I believe it would have been capable {it was said to be 22' in dia.}, of lifting a small 6 yr. old....In the pic. I saw, he was very tiny. But, I sure hope he is just hiding and didn't actually did go aloft in that thing and something became detached....Terrible thought.
Edit:
Of course we now know the boy is safe....That's a blessing.
By the way - Lunch tomorrow is hot beef sandwiches with fries on the side and apple pie a la mode for dessert....
JoeKohwell 2 boys are in BIG trouble out in Denver
Saw part of the coverage. Having sent more than a few weather balloons aloft, it's my opinion that the balloon in question never would have gotten off the ground if there was a kid in it.
Haven't seen the reports stating they found the kid, but based on Joe's post, I'd say the kid was hiding 'cause he knew he was in BIG trouble with dad....
afternoon
well 2 boys are in BIG trouble out in Denver.but at least no one was hurt.Saw it on the news just as matt was getting off the bus.Cw thanks for supper.some stew tonight will work to take the chill off.Time to get things around for work.
Hi all.
Been a good week here in Western IN. I discovered coffee, with cream and sugar! It helps me get up and going in the morning! I saw a NS Northbound yesterday on the way home from the doctors office. He was a really short thing. Only about 10-15 cars long. Must have had some cars in Danville Ill. that had to come over to Lafayette.
It has been really cool (as in temp.) this week. I have hered that there is a chance of snow this Friday!!!
See you all later,
Willy2The National Weather Service posted an article this morning that said that so far this is the coldest October on record for Omaha. Our average temperature for the month thus far is 11.6 degrees below average.
