cherokee womanDesserts include leftover birthday cakes (since I had two ready yesterday for Ray's birthday), cobblers, and apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and strawberry pies.
Somehow, I did not check your cake menu yesterday, and did not see that you had pineapple upside down cake. Is any of it left over? I remember one time that we had it in college, and our waitress brought me so much I could not eat it all--and broke the rule that students were NOT to take food from the dining hall (if you were sick, the house "doctor" was allowed to take food to you) and took a large bowl of it to my room so I could finish it later. Somehow, I managed to get the empty bowl back without being detected. It looks like good eating for today.
Larry, the two dogs we sit also wait until we are eating before they eat. As you, I try to re-read what I have written before it is made public--and even then I can miss errors in spelling and in sentence construction.

Well, you all, Mutt and I have fired up the charcoal grill, and on the warmer bar you'll find: steaks, burgers, hot dogs, brats, grilled corn on the cob, chicken, and grilled "baked' taters.
Side dishes include: cole slaw, potato salad, mustard greens, baked beans, green beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower. And if any of that doesn't appeal to you, there's several varieties of tater chips, tortilla chips & dips.

You all enjoy and have a great afternoon.

Willy2It's nice to put a lot of time into the paper and then sit back, read the final product, and know that I've created a high quality piece of writing.
My usual gig is to write it, proof it, turn it in, read it again and say to myself, "DOH! I could have said that better!"
One of my biggest writing challenges of late has been narratives for grant proposals. Try as I might, I just can't seem to spin them so they sound like we'll have to close our doors if we don't get the grant. Not true of course, but if I can make whoever reads it think that way...

Good Thursday morning, everyone. Nice and cool out, with a temp of 60, 61 degrees, and a bit of a breeze. Sun has risen, and looks like we'll probably get up to about 84,maybe 85 degrees today.
Willy, congratulations on the test score! I have a feeling that you won't let our praise go to your head. You have a very good head on your shoulders, and I believe you'll go very far in the years ahead. Keep up the good work!
Our regular morning beverages are freshly made, and ready. And on the breakfast bar this morning is a good assortment of just about everything on our breakfast menu.
Decided to sleep in this morning. Managed to, until #1 kitty cat decided to get up on my pillow, right in my ear and start voicing the fact that he was hungry. Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a great morning, and take care.
Deggesty Well done, Willy! I have the impression that you will also do well in your other courses, even those that apparently have no relation to what you believe to be your life work. A well-rounded person can do far more than just plod along in the bread-winning work that he does.

Well, I'm off to a good start, but I can't let it go to my head. I'm sure there is plenty of material ahead that will be a lot more challenging, especially once some math gets thrown into the mix.
I agree that being well-rounded is a good thing. This evening, I've been putting the finishing touches on my first essay for Rhetoric and Composition. Writing is something that I've always enjoyed. It's nice to put a lot of time into the paper and then sit back, read the final product, and know that I've created a high quality piece of writing.

Joe, you wrote, "Went into town town;" did you go "home home" afterwards? Better watch your keyboard (I have to keep a sharp eye on muine) or it may trip you up.
Justin, I hope the days such as today are few and far between for you.
Happy birthday, Ray! May the day come back many times, with joy each time.
Willy2My Atmospheric Sciences professor just posted grades for the first exam and I got a 97% on it. A chart showing the distribution of the grades was also posted and shows that only one person in the class scored higher than a 95%, so I guess I was that one person. The average class grade was a 76%.
Alright, the next Dr. Steve Lyons!

ATTA BOY Willy, you have a good start on your chosen profession. Quite a few here in the area have little or no clue here because they come from a different state. Desert weather is amazing to them . Good luck to you . Cannonball

Had an awful day at school. Won’t go into detail.
Willy, glad you passed the Exam! This has been a test filled week for me too.
Just got back from Attica a while back. Saw 2 trains. A Northbound sat in the hole at Riverside while a Westbound (With a UP SD70M up on front) blasted by. There was a woman conductor on board too! She seemed nice with a big friendly smile, and a big wave.
We actually went down to Riverside to see the Mixed freight in the hole. There was apparently another westbound coming as the opposing signal showed an “Approach Medium”. However nothing turned up. All together a fun time with Dad.
Have a good evening all!
Justin
PS: Happy birthday!

Willy, it looks like you done very well in your atmospheric sciences test. Good for you, kid!! I'll bet you would have done better at it than this "old dog".
To all those of you who had wished me a happy birthday this morning, I say "Thank you!" I wish I could actually share some birthday cake with the rest of you folks tonight.
I did treat my co-workers at Wendy's to a batch of chocolate chip cookies this morning. I had more than enough time this morning to bake three dozen of them.

Willy2 Mookie Willy? How was exam? The exam was fine. I might have missed a couple of questions, but out of 65 total, that's still a strong A. We'll probably find out our grades tomorrow. And just for the record, smog is stinkier than fog! :)

DeggestyLarry, it sounds as though you can trust your Dalmatian and fill the bowl whenever it is empty.
Actually, no. At one time that was possible, but while his mistress was away on a mission for about six months he apparently decided to change over from eating when he was hungry to eating whenever there was food in the bowl. Of course, I'd still dutifully put in another scoop when I found it empty. It wasn't until I noticed that his dog food supply was disappearing faster than usual and concurrently took him to the vet for a shot that I put two and two together. They weighed him at the vet and he came in near 90 lbs - that's really big for a Dal. He went on a diet, two scoops of food a day.
He's kind of back on demand feeding - very often when I get home from work the food I put in his bowl is still there. He'll usually eat when I do (if he's not next to me begging). Later that evening is when he'll remind me that he hasn't had his "supper" yet, having not eaten his "breakfast" until suppertime.
Sometimes he's reminding me that his water dish is empty, too. He can have all of that he wants.
We had some friends while I was in USAF who left their cat in the care of a friend who stopped by and took care of the usual tasks while they were gone. The friend apparently didn't give any thought to the open top of the cat food bag, but the cat did. I think it weighed 20-25 lbs when they finally got back...
And another beautiful day here. Had windows open wide and ceiling fan on in bedroom all night. It was still 72 degrees at 12.30 am when I headed to bed.\
Overnight, the NS Frankfort line seemed busy {about 1 mi. north of us}, and the train horns....some sounding different, like some different power was moving thru were so loud. Must just be conditions in atmosphere at times the sounds from those horns seem like their coming down the street.
Happy Birthday Ray! Sorry I forgot to mention it first thing this morning. Today's date just didn't ring any of the birthday bells for me. Hope you have a great time tonight, at your birthday dinner.
Here's the menu for today, and I hope it sounds very tempting to everyone, including our "birthday boy" of 55 years young:
1. Spaghetti w/meat balls (Ray, used your recipe you sent me for the sauce), garlic bread, garden salad.
2. Open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters, gravy, green beans, corn, cole slaw.
Desserts: Chocolate cake w/white icing and yellow cake w/chocolate icing (both with Happy Birthday, Ray on them), and pineapple upside down cake. And there's whatever flavor ice cream you'd like to go with the cakes.
Mookie, enjoyed our time out in the rockers this morning! Everyone enjoy your lunch, and hope you all have a great afternoon.
tree68I'm more likely to have the Dalmatian bugging me because his food dish is empty and he's hungry...
Larry, it sounds as though you can trust your Dalmatian and fill the bowl whenever it is empty. The two dogs we sit from time to time are like that--they eat what they need when they need it and not because it is there. When we had a dog, we had to put out just enough. Indeed, after one became epileptic, I had to put hooks on the pantry sliding doors so she would not nose one open to get at the bag of food. The vet told us that that she wanted to eat and eat was far better than the situation in which her stomach was forever unhappy with what was in it. Buddy (you can see his picture) also was quite happy to eat whatever he could, but we did not have to hook the doors shut.
An amusing event from the life of Mountain Dog (the epileptic). One morning, as Ricki was taking a bath, she heard a noise from the kitchen. It sounded as though the dog had gotten the door under the sink open and was exploring the garbage bucket. Ricki called, "Mountain Dog, what are you doing?" The dog came up to the bathroom, looked in, and said, "I didn't know you were here."
Happy birthday, young man. Many happy returns from an old geezer.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ray!!!
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Happy Birthday, Ray....
CW - heading for the chair - get it rockin'
MC - don't you nap for Joe - it could be an exciting one, especially if you are in the field.
Joe - Nap covered - or Mookie covered and nap coming?
Lawyer I knew left top down on brand new $$$$ convertible and watched from about 1/2 block away while the inside filled up with rain drops. I handed him a couple of tissues over that one.
, RAY!
CANADIANPACIFIC2816 Today is my birthday. I turned 55 this morning. I will be going out for dinner later tonight with one of my sisters and her husband, and I am looking forward to that.

CANADIANPACIFIC2816I too, wanted to sleep in this morning, but my internal clock wouldn't let me sleep beyond 4:30...

Looks like the rest of the week is going to be nice, if cool, and the fall colors are starting to show their stuff - should get very busy on the railroad over the next few weeks.
CW, thanks much for breakfast this morning! I too, wanted to sleep in this morning, but my internal clock wouldn't let me sleep beyond 4:30, so I've been up for a couple hours.
Good morning to all. Quentin, I've been in a few convertibles before, but never was caught in any rain in them (where the top was down when it started raining).
Coffee, juices, and the rest of our morning beverages are freshly made and ready for you all. And on the breafast bar, our usual breakfast assortment ranging from bagels, bear claws to all the other regular menu items.
I intended to sleep in this morning, but it looks like my internal clock said "Get yourself up out of this bed!"
Mookie, how'd you like to have coffee out in the garden or on the patio this morning? The rockers are looking pretty good to me this morning.
Rain stories:
Back in 1959, the first trip to Florida for Jean and I....and we did it in the Summer time....! Driving a '57 Corvette, we were sailing along and it was hot...so the top was down. Knowing of rain coming up quick in Fl. and then it's finished we started to get into some rain and I brushed it off and said we'll run out of it in a minute, and drove a bit faster to have it fly over the windshield....etc....but it didn't stop.....and I didn't find any bridge to pull under.
So....It was bite the bullet and stop and put up the {hand operated}, top and yes, we got really wet....but when it did stop, we pulled over again and put the top back down and with the Summer sun and the wind flying around us, we didn't mind it too much and eventually dried off.....and of course we were a lot younger then and laughed about it all.....Guess it was all fun.....
