10-4 Joe.....that sounds better. Takes a pretty good freeze to do damage to a cooling system in an auto with plain water for coolant.
But I believe wherever a driver lives with modern autos, 50% coolant mix is still recommended. Protects from premature boiling and loss of coolant. And of course freezing protection.

Tree - I have a clock radio with two alarms. And a battery in it in case the tricity goes out. And a battery travel alarm. And the ability to usually wake up about 30 min before the alarm. And I don't even work!
But I still have the responsibility of getting the Driver up @ 5 and off to work, and the responsibility of getting my coffee ready for the day. And my morning paper and nap.
That's a lot of responsibility for so early in the morning!
Modelcar - those busy routes don't take long to "back up" when something like that happens. Even a motorist with a flat tire (who is parked well out of traffic) can cause some major headaches.
Thank goodness it Thursday. That means tomorrow is Friday! I kinda like this time of year, though - plenty of holidays to shorten up the workweek.
Woke up this AM and looked at the clock. 6:55. Great, I think, another few minutes of shuteye. Then the brain kicked in to gear and I realized that I leave the house at 7 - if it was 5:55 I'd have a few more minutes of rest. I hate it when I shut the alarm off and lay my head back on the pillow, only to "z" right out....
Grabbing my tea and bearclaw, then into the grind.
Well, we're back online as of around 9 p.m. last night (Wed.), and Good Thursday morning, everyone! Yeah, our DSL modem went out on us, so we had to wait for a replacement modem. With Sarah's help we managed to get everything up and running again. Thank you very much, Sarah!!!!!
Coffee, juices and rest of morning beverages are ready, and there's plenty of hot water for hot tea.
On the breakfast bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs and hash browns.
Now to see about getting through all the emails from the last three days.
Bad accident northwest of Indianapolis on I-65 today....2 semi's and several cars....One truck driver died.....one of them {trucks}, destroyed by fire...Miles and miles of traffic backed up for many hours.

Had a semi-truck driver try to drive his truck under a railroad bridge with low clearance this morning in Omaha. The top of the trailer got torn off, but he decided to keep driving. Later, he came to the conclusion that he should go back, but when he tried to make a U-turn, his trailer snapped in half. Not the brightest bulb on the string. The bridge was fine and the trains are still rolling along.
The weather was pretty nice today. It's been a little cool, but nothing we can't handle. Still no signs of an impending frost or freeze.
Hot and humid.....just like a real Indiana Summer would be.....Just finished mowing and it looks pretty nice again....Our rain did green up some things. Just .08", but it sure helped.
Just got home from school. Had a good day there. Got all my h/w done.
Really steamy today. Going camping this weekend. Will see you all later!

Anyone notice that we have had no real hurricanes this year and yet Atlanta is drowning in water? Guess it must be the new "inland hurricane" - I think this one started somewhere in the NW part of the country and went all the way to Atlanta to terrorize people....
I sent CW to the grocery store the other day and she wandered off. She will find her way back pretty soon. Meanwhile - we will be having PB & J sandwiches and chocolate milk.
And I agree with you, Johnny. We don't need DST any more. Didn't need it back then, either, but it is just something like taxes - it never goes away.
Had 49 degrees this morning and a "Tree" experience. Opened the front door to check out the "fog" and realized it was "smoke". So figured someone had an over-excited chimney or too much wood on the fire. We have a fire station 1/2 block from us but there are some trees and a building blocking my view of it. Smoke was quite heavy and then I heard what sounded like heavy rain.
Might have been a grass fire - the station has a big park behind it - or maybe they were grilling steaks (at 5 am) and well, no probably not. Anyway, smoke disappeared and all was quiet again. Now none of us will probably ever know what that was because the news media here is more interested in what is going on in the western part of the state and local news is next to non-existant. (scanner upstairs and doesn't give updates!)

This might be a repeat. Not sure. The humidity is now gone, and it is nice here in western Indiana. Going to have a bite to eat and then I will be off tho well.... Lunch,

We had a dull trip up to South Ogden and back today--no trains in sight. Ricki is told that she is improving in her balance, but she is not so sure that she is.
We had a brisk morning--about 55 degrees F. What with this DStupidTime, I am having to leave the house later on the days I walk. Oh, for 1 November, or, better yet, sense in the heads of the people who thought we actually save daylight. We cannot see moving to Arizona (the only intelligent state legislature in the country in 1966).

Much warmer overnight and I awoke to the sound of rain - .06" so far at 0700. We can use it. Several of the firefighters at the meeting last night were commenting that the grass is getting mighty dry. There have been several grass fires around the area lately - usually a spring phenomenon.

Weather is doing some strange and wild things.....The Atlanta down pour and flooding must have been a hundred year plus happening...!
Even here as I went to bed last night {12:45 am}, our amb. temp was still 71 degrees.....and was about the same still early this morniing. Some sunshine now. The above temps would be peak of Summer temps for that time of day here.....And today of course is our first day of Fall.
Grass is greening up again which will reactivate mowing....We did get a bit of rain a day or so ago and shrubs and grass resume growing.
Good morning. 67 and overcast in Carolina this morning. There is a lot of heavy weather west of us in the Atlanta area, and CSX/NS have apparently had some washouts. Reports of as much as 14 inches in the Atlanta area. Yesterday, Sept 21, was the 20th anniv of Hurricane Hugo, a day that live in infamy in S C. Everyone take care.
A tid bit for the Diner: Notice in Newswire the Moynihan Penn Station Project....that is, an annex {using the old Farley Post Office space}, to capture some of the past greatness of Penn Station demolished in '63, may be getting back on track.

Rain is on the way Larry......We recieved our first in about 2 weeks here starting overnight and continuing until a bit after lunch time....Not a steady rain, but come and go, and really a hard rain at times....And we really need it. Humid too, 97% this morning.
Now....Beautiful sunshine and mid to upper 70's. Grass will now green up from this nourishment. Trees here still mostly green.
Haven't checked the rain gauge yet, but my guess about a half inch.

Aside from a little shower that skittered through a few days ago, we've had almost nothing for the past few weeks (at least since I got soaked at the end of a railroad day a few weeks ago). The Moose River is really low. We run alongside it for much of one of our trips and yesterday there was more rock surface than water surface.
The end of the week should change that, though - just in time to knock the leaves off the trees, making the rails slippery and ruining the fall foliage show for the leaf peepers...
Almost time to head for home and supper. A BLT will do for that, too, as I've got a meeting to rush out to.
