Variable weather here--yesterday, the high was close to one hundred. Today, it is in the low eighties. We have been promised scattered showers, but, so far as I know, none has come down around us. Before we left for church this morning, I closed all the windows lest we have showers coming in while we were gone, but as well as I could tell there was no rain here while we were gone--and it rained in Salt Lake City.

It was nice being away in our timeshare last week, but it is also nice to be back in our year-round home.

Walt, the 3:03 ~~e\m was derailed as well was 6:39 . However the derailer was removed for the 7:16 to make it to the station .  Indeed an awesome Pic.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a terrific weekend!  We are starting out this morning, with temps in the mid to upper 50s, going for a high of about 81 today.  (Going to be a very good day for me getting laundry done!)

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas, Gatorade, and hot water for hot tea are all freshly made (Well, the Gatorade is in the drums, so it's always read).

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, oatmeal, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Mookie, your coffee mug is out on the counter, ready to have coffee poured into it, whenever you get in.

You all have a great morning, enjoy your breakfast, and take care.

Loonnnngggg weekend - and it was only two days.

Saturday's trains went off without a hitch, as did Sundays, save for that downpour that decided to time itself for our runaround...  I only got a little wet.

After the day's runs we had to assemble the train for the larger groups experienced with Wednesdays train robberies.  It was only two cars, and no shuffling, but it's still switching real railroad cars, and we don't do a lot of that.

No problems, though.  I'm just beat.

Doesn't help that the bunk in the camp car (I stayed overnight) is a tad short for my 6'5" frame, and that the camp car itself is sitting a little off kilter...

Fortunately there's nothing on the agenda for tonight, so there's probably a nap in the recliner before supper in my future.

Got my tea and bearclaw.  I'll be nodding off over in the corner booth.

Kiwigerd: Suddenly the forum started sounding like Cincinnati on a summer afternoon. Red Bull would be an awful ex$pen$ive alternative for Gatorade (I can go through 4 gallons on a hot summer day with ease). The stuff  gets you rehydrated. That much Red Bull and they would be scraping everybody off the ceiling with a spatula.

Here it was the hottest weekend of the summer. Three scotties ('Da Boyz) got baths on Sunday much to their consternation and the forum was paid a brief visit by LC.

Hoping for rain today. In Gerd's honor, let's see if we can get some milk, sour cream, dill and cucumbers together for cucumber salad.

Not to mention that a key ingredient in drinks like Red Bull is caffiene.   A diuretic.  So you're drinking something that will make you lose even more fluids than you already are.  Stick with water and Gatorade.

I have a similar discussion with firefighters from time to time, especially as they're reaching for the "Mountain Dew" for rehydration at an incident.

On another note - had a "what the heck was that about" incident this weekend.  After our usual run-around at the outer point of one of our south trips, I was headed onto the locomotive to be the "extra set of eyes" (running long hood forward) for the trip north.  As I was boarding the locomotive, one of the passengers asked if I could retrieve her daughter's ear-ring.  It had somehow fallen on the coupler...

I called for three-step and retrieved the errant ear ring, with the engineer wondering what the heck was going on.  As I cancelled three stop on entering the cab, I explained it...

All in a day's work on a tourist railroad.

Been talking steadily for 2 hours, so why stop me when I am on a roll.  (More on that in a minute)

Welcome to our forum friend from Austria.  Looked through all the German writings and I am with a lot of the other people - my German heritage only knows dumkopf.  I am always so happy the rest of the world knows English!  Approve

Kool-aid was invented here in Nebraska - the true midwest.  (sorry Quentin - here I go again!)

Tree!  I just love an earring on a man!  Kisses

Sir Chicken - don't you know milk builds good strong bones and mudchickens?  Puts more stomp in your boots!

And my last piece of news - one more forum member has been identified in person.  Just had a long chat in my walk-in closet sized living room with CopCarSS Chris from Denver.  Such a nice young man.  (I am noticing more lately that everyone is considered young!)  As we speak, he is on his way west but planning to hit highway 30 to watch the UP triple tracks through western NE.  We had a great visit and I sent a hug with him to give to der Mudchicken.  Would love to be there for that one!  Big Smile  I forgot to ask him about his "handle", so will have to do that after he gets back to Denver!

The Driver will be happy when he gets home today.  I am pretty well talked out for the rest of the day.

CW - time for a nap - let's go doze in the garden chairs.  Sun looks nice.

In Gerd's honor, let's see if we can get some milk, sour cream, dill and cucumbers together for cucumber salad.

Mudchicken, I believe we can handle that:  got mil, sour cream, dill and cucumbers on hand, and plenty of all above said ingredients.  We'll also have:  tuna salad sandwiches, roast beef hogies, with your choice of potato wedges, fries or potato chips.   Desserts today:  Apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and strawberry cobblers, with plenty of ice cream.  (Any flavor you want, it's more than likely in the freezer, so just help yourselves!)  OH!  we also have plenty of chocolate cake (some with white icing, some with chocolate, and yellow cake w/chocolate icing.  And, if anyone likes it, there's a white cake w/coconut icing.

Almost through with the third load of laundry.  Just waiting for the second load to finish in the dryer, so I can unload the dryer, and load it with the clothes in the washer.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Nice and cool, with a current temp of 64 here in downtown Louisville, with a projected high today of 85.  Supposed to be a nice, sunshiny day.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas and hot water for hot tea are all freshly made, and ready to go.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, oatmeal, toast ready andwaiting.

I'm looking for another mild day as far as Tuesday Produce goes, as the other nearby facility is open today.  Since so many of our people go to that one also, it is usually a smaller turnout here at St. George's.

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll see you after Tuesday Produce.

I forgot to ask him about his "handle", so will have to do that after he gets back to Denver!

I can help with that one- one of his vehicles is a re-conditioned former police cruiser.

Glad you got to meet him; I had the pleasure of a too-brief get-together at Georgetown a couple of years ago.

.......And in this case that equates to an Impala that has the performance parts equal to an Impala SS Chevrolet.  Perf. parts., such as suspension, engine cooling, different wheels, brakes, perf. V-8 engine, etc.....

Brian, I'm glad to see you back in here!  How are you and Joanie doing?  All right, I hope.

Speaking of Chris, he's another one who has been absent in here for too long!  But I do understand, he's been very, very busy lately.

Tuesday Produce went well, basically.  Had a few new people, who thought they could just go on up, and cut in front of the ones whose names had been called, and that is always a headache, because you get the ones you have called up, to complain and gripe.  I only brought home one item from the produce today:  a bag of mozzerella cheese (will come in handy Saturday for our Pizza Fest!

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now under way.  On the menu today:

1.  Tacos (soft shell and hard shell); 2.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean and enchilada style); 3.  Chimichangas (beef & chicken); 4.  Frijitas; 5.  Spanish rice; 6.  chopped lettuce w/diced tomatoes; And the usual tortilla chips w/salsa, picante sauce and con queso.

Everyone enjoy, and have a great afternoon.  Like Quentin, we're to get up in the mid to upper 80s today.  This evening, need to go out in the garden and pick some nice, red ripe cherry tomatoes.  See you all later.

The local paper in Lake Placid, NY, The Adirondack Daily Enterprise is conducting an on-line poll regarding turning the current Adirondack Scenic RR ROW (which is owned by New York State) into a trail.  Of course, we all hate to see that kind of thing happen.  There is a local ground swell of support for the trail, not to mention a couple of very vocal folks who would prefer to see the entire railroad (all 162 miles) torn up and turned into a trail.

Kindly pay a visit to the newspaper's website and cast a vote for rail.  As I write this, we're ahead.  Lots of votes will help, and if they are checking the source of the votes, they'll see that this historic rail line has support from all over the country, not just a bunch of local "railroad hobbyists" who don't want to lose their toys.

Thanks for your support!

And then there's this:

Our more vocal opponents operate an isolated resort.  Currently, the only access is by boat or hi-rail.  Were the tracks taken up, they'd be able to get in by 4 wheeler, and the rails wouldn't interfere with the snowmobiles in the winter time.  I can see their point, to a point.

Thing is, back when they built the reservoir that blocked road access to this location, the residents told the state they didn't want another road...

Hello everyone, thank's for the warm welcome and the high greens given. In turn, I gave my support for conserving the rails at this online ballot. Hope it helps. I have seen some conversions into cycle tracks, etc. and people started out to be quite enthused about it at first. After a few years these tracks, then less than well maintained became abandoned by cyclists, weeds all over - a pure pittance.

Hot weather returned, we peaked 91° today. I had to go downtown to honor an appointment with my doctor in the hospital and the heat in the narrow streets there was even more than this. No precipitation in sight but the met office said we turn into fall by the weekend. I am not aware if they meant it just geophysically or if it was meant that the hot weather will come to an end. They read statistics quoting that we had 35 days with temps exceeding 86 degrees this summer with an absolute peak of 96. So central Europe is turning into some sort of mediterrean climate, we also get the bugs, spiders and mosquitoes from there. Experts reckon that the world's malaria zone will shift north in 20 years or so. Not so nice of an outlook.

I bid you all a nice evening, take care

I'm baaack....hungry as usual.

Tree - one more for our side from me.  Did you see the news story on the old "high line" trail in lower Manhatten?  Guess they are really getting their "entertainment" on the new from rails to trails from the lotsa glass windowed condo building - I will say no more.  Blush

Sir Chicken - I see a lot of those DPU's and if one every whistles at me, I will faint dead away!

Gerd - your weather sounds a lot like ours - and while that is probably no big deal - we are used to at least a week or so of 100-110 degrees summer days, little or no rain from mid July to 2nd week in Sept and then snow - starting about the end of October and going until almost end of April and very high humidity during any days over about 75.

That was then - now - we have had one 100 degree day - rest about 85- maybe lower 90s, humidity bearable - lot more bearable - and gentle rains around once a week or so.  We have swine flu, bird flu, West Nile virus, chiggers, fleas, ticks and mosquitos, along with a tiny sense of humor - but no malaria in our area.....Smile,Wink, & Grin

I still think the "true midwest" will become the hot vacation spot in years to come.

CW - gotta a tomato?

Joe, we've had several Caprice Classics in the past too.

Quite a few Impalas....One that was a bit special: 1968 Impala SS Custom Coupe W / 427 engine and SS equipment.  If I remember correctly, there was just 1700 some of that exact model produced that model year.

Just a comment:  I'm all for railroads staying in place where possible, but if a route is abandoned, it is great to have the ROW preserved by constructing a trail on it.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  I'm not sure what our current temp is, but have heard that our high today is to be about 88, with chances of rain coming in tomorrow thru Saturday.  So I need to get some more things done inside and outside before it hits.

Also heard about Sen. Kennedy passing away last night.  Doesn't that only leave the children and grandchildren of the Kennedy brothers & sisters left?

Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas and hot water for tea are ready.  On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and Mookie, fresh tomatoes are in the cooler.

I woke up about 4:15, and then the next thing I know, it's after 7 a.m.  Guess I needed the extra rest/sleep.

Today is the day I take requests for what you all want for lunch and supper?  Give me plenty of suggestions, and I'll do my very best to accomodate all of you.

Everyone have a great morning, stay as cool as possible, and take care.  See you all after a little bit.
