Good Friday morning, everyone! Yes, Mookie, I'm in here this
morning. Our current temp is in the low to mid 50s, going to be sliding down to the mid to upper
30s by this evening. We are currently getting some rain, and high winds; as a matter of fact, we're
under a tornado watch until 10 a.m. this morning.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like this new post section. The color keeps reverting
to black, and I have to keep resetting the type color.
Guess that's about it for me right now. Everyone have a great day, and talk with you later.

Over an inch of rain in the past 24 hours at the house - and temps are hovering in the upper 30's. Severe weather notwithstanding, when it gets cold, it's gonna be messy.
Many small streams are already running banks-full, we have flood watches out, as well as high wind advisories.
Can I get my bearclaw warmed up on the grill?

About 8 inches and climbing. I won't be going to work today. Wait a minute, I don't go to work any day. A family member, who shall be unnamed, has an appointment with a hair dresser at 10:00 today and so the snow blower will be fired up. I have insisted on a call to be sure the place is open.
From storm central, we'll keep you posted.

OMG! The next thing will be ice bergs in the Gulf!!
The Friday Fish Fry is ready, with regular sides, along with the requested Skyline Chili Five Way. Enjoy your lunch, everyone. I'm off to the grocery, to get supper fixins for us tonight, along with a side trip to Post Office for stamps, and get our mail out for today.

Considering the several inches that Denver received from this system, and what it's doing out east now, I'm amazed that you didn't get a single flake. How's that work? Willy?

(A quick aside--thanks to the admins who got the formatting features to work in IE 7.0! )
I'll take a bowl of Five Way Chili and a mug of hot coffee--most of the USA is experiencing a major cold snap (even Sacramento, CA is down to freezing at nights!).

I guess I should be thankful that San Jose is missing the bad, cold weather. It's been getting down to the low 40's at night, but into the mid to high 60's during the day with plenty of sunshine. I took my walk today in just a short-sleeved shirt.
I'll take the fish fry today. I think that I missed out on it last week.
Jay, I'll send my dad over with the Bobcat and the Deere 3020 with loader, looks like you got a bunch of snow. We got about 3 inches of the stuff in Madison, heard on the radio that Twin Lakes (straight south of my parents) and Kenosha got 16 inches plus, with 45 MPH wind gusts, which makes this a blizzard.
I'll take some fish, CW, see everyone later.

Well, Randy, I'm glad you'll take some fish: because I just got the next batches fried, along with fries, hushpuppies, and just finished making some fresh coleslaw.
For dessert tonight, we've got some hot pecan pies and chocolate pies fresh out of the oven.

Thanks for the offer, but I know your Dad will have had a long day moving snow around and there is still the evening chores.
We got the job done with the new "rotary", but it still took several hours work. In front of the garage we have house on one side and two cars parked on the other side, so clearing the upper part of the driveway is a trick. Move snow, move cars, move snow, move cars.
Delavan had the spreader out. First time I recall seeing that. Downtown, the snow is moved to the center of the street, then late tonight, the front end loader will be out loading the dump trucks. I plan to sleep through that project.

You mentioned Paul Harvey. In the early 1960's when I was in grade school, Paul Harvey came to Sioux Falls and spoke before the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce. He ultimately ended up having coffee with my Mom and Dad at their house. My Dad was a member of the Chamber of Commerce then, but more specifically he was a well-known radio broadcaster and musicologist who had a career in radio that spanned 55 years. Dad first went to work for KSOO AM in 1936, and KSOO always carried Paul Harvey's daily commentary.

Hi All,
Couldn't make it to the diner for lunch, so I stopped and got some Chinese with one of my co-workers. My fortune cookie told me:
"Good news will be brought to you by mail."
Lo and behold, my mail came, and along with it the new issue of Trains! Woo hoo! Not bad for a cookie!
A good Saturday morning to everyone out there, I reckon a lot of us are sleeping in this morning. Not me. I've been up since 5:30. It looks like I'm the first one in the Diner this morning, so I will take charge of serving breakfast. I've got the coffee brewing, and the orange juice and hot chocolate are ready.
On today's breakfast menu, bacon, scrambled eggs, ham and cheese omlets, fried potatoes, buttermilk silver dollar pancakes.
It's a COLD, fridged morning here in Sioux Falls this AM, with our temperature sitting at only 10 degrees. It will warm up to about 16 degrees later this afternoon and that's it. I am getting ready to work another shift as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, and fortunately I will only be working half my normal shift. They have unpaid volunteers from various churches coming out to relieve all of us paid bell ringers. From where the Salvation Army has me posted, I can hear trains, but I can not leave my post long enough to go watch them. There will be no shortage of pretty girls who will walk past me to do their shopping, so I kind of look forward to that!

CP thanks for the breakfast.its appreciated.we fell asleep watching the polar express so we watched it afterwards on our dvd.have a brother in laws birthday party for tonight and will be looking for trains and christmas lights on the way.
Good Saturday morning! Ray, thanks for getting the coffee on, and making the hot chocolate and juice. Also, thank you for fixing breakfast. I woke up once, about 5, and the next thing I knew, it was 7:30 Guess I needed the sleep, though, so don't guess I'll complain too loudly.
I hope everyone has a great, safe day, and are able to make it back here, around 6:30, 7:00 for our SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST.
....Ray: That sounds cold up there in your area....We have 24 degrees here in central Indiana this {mid}, morning. At least the wind has stopped blowing. Sun is shining bright and we're to get into the 30's today. We received no snow from the big winter blast of yesterday. Gusts of 54 mph wind here yesterday did some damage...Worked pretty hard on one of my white pine tress....I could even see the ground moving up a bit as heavy gusts worked on it. Blew 18 wheelers over on their sides here at several locations...
Your mention of Paul Harvey is interesting....In 1936, commerical radio was only about 10 or so years old.
Of course we still hear him on his daily broadcast. He must be well into his 80's by now....

Good morning from the frozen state of Iowa- I slept in as well, didn't get up until 8:45. We've got 25 degrees here, so alittle warmer than you, Ray. Gotta get moving, though, and take Joanie to a hair appointment- while she's stuck there, I can get some Christmas shopping done!
I managed to catch the latter part of the Polar Express last night as well; a neat movie. We'll definitely have to rent it so I can see the beginning.

The storm was such a powerful system that the cutoff line with the snow was extremely sharp. Here's a link from the National Weather Service in St. Louis that has a satellite image showing the snowcover.

Probably the biggest reason that Brian didn't get any snow at all was that there was a lot dry air to the north of the system that prevented any of the snow from spreading too far to the north. That satellite image is really interesting, wouldn't you say?
