Good Friday morning, everyone!  Going to be a hazy, hot and humid day here in
Louisville,  KY.

Nightrain, you can bring in any contributions to the Diner, and anyone of us can
accept it:  Jhh, Mookie, Joe, Walt, Tree, or just put it in the kitchen yourself.  I
trust you. (Trust me, Mutt (Walt) does NOT spend  a lot of time in the kitchen!!)

Joe, thanks for getting the coffee going, and making fresh lemonade and tea
for the day.  Hope the football game doesn't get rained out tonight, from possible
very bad weather.

Tell Matt that along with the FRIDAY FISH FRY, there will be corndogs, fries
and applesauce on today's menu.

Everyone have a great morning, and take care.

Good Morning All,

CW, the Lasagna last night was excellent! That really hit the spot! Thank you much for making it.

Well, it was in the mid 90's yesterday as MC mentioned. So what does that mean for the weekend? Well, it means snow of course! Seriously, with a cold front playing havoc with the weather, we could see the snow level dropping to 11,000 feet over the weekend (or so the weatherman says). Alas, Denver is a bit too low for that. However, since I'm planning on climbing Quandary Peak on Sunday, I might get a chance to play in the snow. Woo hoo!

Of course, this is a sign that autumn is approaching (and many shouts and huzzahs arise from the crowd!). Perhaps some of my fondest autumnal memories are spending time up at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, WI for the annual Fall Color Train special. Had a quick question for all of our WI residents. Has Mid-Continent gotten any of their steamers running yet? If not, do they have any kind of timeframe for when they think they'll be going?

Thanks in advance for any answers. I'm thinking about making a return trip some Autumn when they get steam going again.

Anyways, have to get a start on the day. Hope you all have a great one, and have a great weekend, too!

TTFN!

I see the cat's already in the hammock.

After a slow start (I do so love sleeping in) it's time to head for town for some parts for the truck.  Gotta get those brakes fixed.  Then it's nap time so I can get up at 2am to go to work.  After that I plan to head for the railroad. Even though it's still work, it's fun - most people are riding the train because they want to, and the people who are working want to be there (all of us being volunteers).

I'll just put together a bearclaw and tea to go...

For our patrons on the West Coast, I have breakfast/brunch ready for you:
bacon, sausage, gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, etc.

For the East and Midwest, the following fish are in the fryers:  cod, perch
hallibut, trout and catfish (NONE of Mookie's relatives, either!Big Smile [:D]).  Also
have plenty of fries and cole slaw.  And we've got some corn on the cob,
also.

Dessert:  chocolate cream pie, and lemon meringue pie. Also the prerequisite
chocolate cake.

Mookie:  Did you purposely wear two different earrings this morning?  Hoping
to start a new trend, or just not totally awake this morning?  Whichever, I like the
new look!!

Morning, again...........

Chris, just checked Mid-continent's website (www.midcontinent.org), looks like they should have Western Coal and Coke #1 operational by next year.  They are finishing up work on the boiler right now.

Had another severe thunderstorm roll through just before I fired up the computer, power flickered a couple of times, and a lot of rain fell again.  Anybody need rain?  We're a little ahead of normal now, and there will be more firing up tonight when the cold front moves through.

I'll be in a comfy chair on the deck, watching the trains go by, umbrella in hand.......

rvos's post made me think about the C&NW's #1385 up at Mid-Continent.  I checked it's status and am very glad to see that it's still being worked on, albeit slowly, even though it's an expensive project.  I can't wait to see how she runs after the rebuild.

Sorry I was so blah this morning, it was a late night last night.  I am having a party tomorrow evening which you are all welcome to attend, but I'd hate to detract from the SNPF.  So I'll respectfully saunter out of here for a while.

Instead of a "fish fry" tonight, I've got the grill going, and we're having:
grilled cod, catfish, perch, and trout, w/corn on the cob, slaw, and
there's still some corn dogs left, if anyone wants them.

Supper tonight will be served on the deck,  and if it starts raining, I'll
try to keep everyone covered with umbrellas while you eat.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Greetings all from the Comfort Inn in Wheat Ridge, CO.  Had a mostly pleasant drive today, even caught some glimpses of UP action in Nebraska, and was fortunate to catch an eastbound BNSF TOFC coming out of Denver along I-76- got a picture of him out the window, a fairly long train with only one engine!  BTW, on the way through Nebraska I stopped for lunch at the Subway at Exit 403 on I-80, which is on the northeast side of Lincoln.  Got alot of strange looks there when I walked in wearing my tin boots- I wasn't taking any chances considering where I was!Clown [:o)]Big Smile [:D]

Well, I think I'll break out the swimsuit and jump in the hot tub- gotta get rested up for the longer leg tomorrow!

Awfully nice of the Comfort Inn to provide this PC for guest use.  One of these days, though, I'll invest in a good laptop...

Greetings

Been too busy with stuff to do much posting, but I have been lurking.  We have been getting some of the monsoon rains here-enough that the dry season may be over for a few days.  I hope Randy remembered to pack a life preserver when he launched the boat, just in case he couldn't bail fast enough to get the rain water out of the boat.

Speaking of rain, I know cats don't care much for water, so maybe Lincoln is still safe for the traveler.

MC.  Sorry to hear about Andy.  I'll bet he raced the door to give you a big greeting when you got back from forays in the field.

Supper on the patio sounds great.  Think I'll take an ice tea, kick back and watch the evening parade for a while and then make a choice off the specials for the day.

Yawn... Really tired this evening! There was a dance at school this evening so I danced the night away. I don't really care to do a lot of dancing, but I though what the heck; I'll go. It was fun, but I would've rather gone to a movie or watched trains. Oh well, I have to try new stuff and get to know people. Good Night!

Good Saturday morning, everyone!

Joe, thanks for making cinnamon rolls this morning!  And thanks for making the
coffee, lemonade and tea.  Didn't go to bed until about 1:45 this morning, and
woke up at 7:45.

IA Brian, hope you have a very safe trip.

To go along with Joe's cinnamon rolls, I've got some doughnuts set out by
the cinnamon rolls.

Everyone have a great and safe day, and see you all later.

Morning All,

Was planning to head out and get some train shots up on the Moffat Line this morning, but woke up to Steel Grey skies. Decided to call no joy, and get some tasks around the house done. I'm hoping (but doubting) that tomorrow will be better for a climb up Quandary Peak. I don't mind hiking in the rain (or snow as the case may very well be), but it really takes some of the fun away when you don't get a great view from the top.

Joe, the cinnamon rolls were excellent! Thanks for getting them out so early!

Well, I must set about my tasks. I hope you all have a great day, and I'll check in later.

Well, Brian, when I go on vacation next week, there won't be any obliging hotels with computers.  Nor will a cell phone be of any use.  Nor is there a railroad anywhere in the county.  That's a real vacation for me--I might be bored out of my skull, except that I'll be able to ride my bike along two of my favorite rail trails.

Do I remember a lighthouse fancier around here?  You'd love the location of our family's cottage.  #!*! light keeps blinking in the front window all night!
