Morning All,
Not sure how many of you are gourmet coffee drinkers, but I brought in a bunch of cappucinos, espressos, mochas, lates, and such. Help yourself while I proceed to down three double shots of espresso.
Why all the caffeine? Well, I've been up playing hide and seek with 1989 since 2 A.M. And unfortunately, it's a much better hider than I am a seeker. Drove down to the south side of the Springs looking for her, and then followed the Springs Sub all the way back into Denver, and managed to bounce around quite a bit between Monument and Larkspur where I thought she was hiding.
Alas! She proved to be too much for this seeker. Oh well, we had some leftover storms from last night's monsoonal pattern, and I only would have had about 5 minutes of good light to catch her anyways (but oh what a five minutes!). If I had been thinking, I would've got a shot of a southbound manifest at Palmer Lake at sunrise. Not only was there a lot of delicious red light around, there was still some random bits of cloud-to-cloud lightning. I think I could have had a great shot if I had settled for the bird in the hand. Oh well.
Anyways, I'm off to attempt to <yawn> work now. Hope you all have a great day!
TTFN!
<grabs another double espresso on the way out>

....Guess I should report on what central Indiana is like today, etc....We finally got a bit of rain overnight...but not much... .2" , 77.4 temp now and high humidity. Feels much better inside.
Stopped by the Trail Head...{ex CSX depot}, and parallel to NS RR yesterday about the time Triple Crown is due through south, but after about an hour of browsing around I gave up....Hope it didn't derail someplace north of here that I didn't see it make it through in that hour....
The Trail Head depot had perhaps 10 by 40 ft. space of masonary blocks with RR logos embossed on their surface right beside the ex RR ROW....now they were taking them out and putting "pavers" in that space yesterday...?? Don't know what that was all about...Those RR "blocks" sure did look nice...They even had the proper color to the Logos....I'll have to try and find out why they were removed and what will happen to them now. There is a railroad theme inside the "depot" honoring the fact it was a railroad depot and the history of RR activity in Muncie.
I have a switchmen's lantern on display inside....along with artifacts others provided. Nice appropriate mementos.

Well, the milkshake machine was one of those burger joint types, but in the interest of pleasing everybody, we'll add an old fashioned shake mixer, along with all of the flavorings, and, of course, some "hard" ice cream. There's always milk in the cooler...
A co-worker has proven that bears can read. The other day, on the way to work, he narrowly missed a deer, and moments later saw a bear coming through the woods toward the road, likety-split. He tried to avoid a collision, but the bear ran headlong into the drivers side passenger door, then shook it off and took off back into the woods on the other side as though nothing had happened. There is a small dent in the door as a result.
You ask - "How does that prove a bear can read?"
My co-worker is trying to sell the car - it's tired, to say the least. Part of his effort (I have no idea why, except that it's true) involved spray painting on the sides of the car with "DEMO DERBY CAR." Like I said, bears can read....

Now, if you can duplicate a Philadelphia-style cheesesteak sandwich I'll take one "Whiz Wit" (e.g., using Cheez Whiz and onions).

Sorry, Chris, if I misled you with bad information on the 1989 for last night. Leaves Pueblo tonight; tomorrow morning it's supposed to be at North Yard.
Daughter No. 2, who never touched coffee of any sort, had to become an expert once joining the crew at her local Starbucks (near the old SP Coast Line in California). Poor kid--served a coffee of some sort to a celebrity, and didn't even recognize her! Had to be told by other envious staffers.
Got hit by a couple of big drops before getting home. We need many, many more.
No Prob, Carl... it was probably my bad. At least I got to explore light angles in a couple spots for sunrise. Depending where I catch it, I should have a couple angles worked out. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Of course, with temps rising in Denver, and me waking up bright and early again, we might need two IV lines for Coloradoans. MC can have his usual Gatorade drip, and I'll just start pushing the Espresso via IV rather than drinking all those double shots. Of course, we might start scaring the other patrons...
BTW, did your daughter ever find out who she served? Or was she just told it was someone famous? Considering my lack of pop culture knowledge, that's something I'm certain I could excel at (not knowing celebs. when I met them). I met Rail Photog./ Author Brian Solomon once at the B&SV in Iowa. Didn't even know who he was until he handed me a Pentrex biz card.
rain on and off today and very sticky.but tonight is friday for me.matt met some of his friends from school in town and they had fun.
off to work
stay safe

We took Chipotle stuff trackside at Elmhurst tonight. Missed UP 1995 (which was the target), but saw a couple of other freights and scoots in the time it took us to eat.
There were tornado warnings to our south and east, and the clouds were spectacular. Lombard got a couple of drops. Elmhurst had a harder rain before we got there, but nothing while we were eating, thankfully. We could still get some nasty stuff tonight, which will make it a very steamy day tomorrow. It was "close" today as well--skyline of the city appeared to have been cut off at about 800 feet or so in height, and was barely visible from our 14-mile distance.
Ummmmmm.......................nothing else to say.
O O What do you think? One Green and One Brown now. I don't think he understood what I wanted, so ....
And he made kind of a strange comment. He shined his light in my eyes and ask his nurse if the light showed out the back of my head. She said she could see it very clearly. Hmmmm.......
Dish of kibbles and I am going to go ponder this in the corner. Actually, I am going to sulk and have a solo pity party, so

are you sure it wasnt the headlight of the "big boy" image thats always on your mind? we got a soaking rain last night.a couple people hydroplaned off the side streets at work and flooded their engines in the process.but kudos to the engineers and surveyors of the ns overpass.all that rain and it wasnt flooded at all.
Morning all from the Racine County Fair........
Has been warm the last few days here, except for last night at 4pm, had a NASTY storm come through, blew down two trees in the midway, one landed on a tent, luckily nobody inside, the other caught the carnival power lines, was interesting. I was on my way back to the fairgrounds after running home to get power cord and antenna for scanner, was doing 35 with four-ways on, couldn't see 500 ft in front of me. Got about an inch of rain in 20 minutes, had 50-60mph winds, and a little hail to top it all off.
Going to be hotter than Satan's kitchen today and the rest of the weekend, I'm hauling ice for five hours this morning at the fair, should be a brisk sales day. Got mobbed a few times yesterday when I came around, everyone filling up coolers.
Gatorade and squincher tanks are full, should be a big genset coming to the diner shortly to deal with the power issue (if it's still an issue), contractor should be right behind him to hook it all up (poured the pad and installed fuel tank and lines the other day, it's one of those multi-fuel jobs)
Stay cool everyone.

We country boys just can't resist fried catfish. Bring it on.
I am back from Missouri. It was a good trip. The only real rain was around Clinton, Arkansas. It really didn't rain on me in Missouri or Arkansas, other than at Clinton. It sure is nice to take take some time off and sit and talk with no where to go and nothing really important to do. You know, that could get to be a habit.
Well, what did I miss while I was gone?
