Joe and everyone, you're in luck today: got another watermelon at Produce this morning,
along with onions, potatoes, lettuce and cauliflower.

Lunch today: burgers w/sauteed onions, fried taters, steamed cauliflower, and tossed
salad.

Joe, will probably HAVE to use Mutt's sledge hammer, or his sword to cut into that
watermelon. It's got a very thick rind, and you can't even cut through it with a butcher
knife.

Carl & mudchicken, Larry's is so right: you two do provide us with great information,
and we are truly blessed to have you two here on the forums. You both share your
knowledge with us, and for that we are glad.

Supper tonight: you have a choice of Mexican: tacos, burritos, enchilladas, or you
can have bbq ribs, w/baked potatoes. Have plenty of margarine (butter) and sour
cream for the potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Sure is a very pleasant afternoon. We've had slight chance of showers, t-storms,
but nothing around us yet. Maybe it'll bypass us.

Everyone have a pleasant evening.

Just to confuse everything, ha ha, Wednesday morning has just started down here, cool clear and bright with breakfast of wholemeal toast with plenty of Vegemite and good hot strong cup of coffee....now I'm really waking up, just as you up over lot are starting to power down...aren't time zones mind boggling?

Cheers

Dave,

Long time no see. How have you been?

Time zones may be fun, but I think Hemisphere's are even more fun. How's your winter? Mind if I come down there until about Mid-Sept? We never got much of a Spring here, and have already had far too much summer, IMHO.

BTW, does the toilet REALLY go the other way (sorry...just couldn't resist that one while talking about hemispheres! [;)])

Hi Chris

To cut a long story short, I took time off without pay from my job to move interstate, with a view to getting work there. That's because my wife (who I recently married back in April), lived there, and we thought I could get work in that area. Anyway, due to family responsibilities we agreed to move back to Brisbane and I'm back at my old job.

Things are finally cooling off down here - Summer was a stinker and lasted well into Autumn. Last night we had about 5 degrees Celsius (I think about 40 Fahrenheit) with a lovely max of 22 deg Celsius (low 70s in F I think...)

Brisbane is rated as being in the sub-tropics, so we won't get much colder than that. I think we have similar weather to Florida....very warm humid summers and brilliant winters...

anyone want some water? we got plenty of it, lots of flooding and more rain coming. Some rivers are expected to hit their second highest flood stage ever recorded, and it's supposed to crest tomorrow afternoon and evening

Not only toilets or sink plug holes, but, apparently, our cyclones (hurricanes) down here rotate in the opposite direction to hurricanes "up over".

Hhmmm...I wonder what happens if a hurricane/cyclone crosses the equator and keeps heading south/north away from it's originating hemisphere...???

Maybe has enough power to maintain original direction of rotation until it dissipates.....???

I'm by no means an expert on this subject, Kozzie, but I think the natural weather patterns won't allow a hurricane or cyclone to get anywhere near the equator- I'm sure some of the more weather-wise members will correct me if I'm wrong.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone! Looks like another nice day on tap!!

Kozzie, welcome back! Glad you're back with us. How's married life treating
you, so far?

And Carl, it's good to see you back, also!! Please don't be such a stranger
around here, all right?

Coffee is on, and the orange juice is ready.

Breakfast this morning: you've got your choice of oatmeal and toast, sausage,
sausage gravy & homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, and hash browns,
along with some watermelon chunks.

Everyone have a great day, and let me know, please, what you'd like for lunch and
supper today.

Looks like my number has been called:

1: BC - I think you just jiggled the knob to the closet. Come out of there!

2: Kozzie - welcome back.

3: Anyone on east coast want to rail some of that water back here - I will even share with Chris and my favorite free-range chicken. We get lots of clouds, but no water! We are parched! Obviously the rain is being delivered by one of my two paper people deliverers. They can't seem to find us either!

4: Jay - I think you need to rest - take the hammock and put a cool cloth over your eyes.

5: Don't you just love the accent the Aussies bring to the diner. Since I speak flat English, I love any kind of an accent. Don't always understand it and have to have them repeat a few things, but do love it.

Always wanted to be left-handed, too.

Now you know more than you really wanted to know!

Oh yeah - went for a bone density scan yesterday. As we, ahem, mature - we lose height due to our brains getting heavier and pushing down on the rest of the body. (you are buying this aren't you?)

Anyway, they recommend it especially for women, since we have to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders and our brains are heavier.

Tell your female family members or female friends - it is a snap. They let you lie down with a pillow no less. They do a Star-Trek thing where they run a machine over you - nothing touches you and you can keep all your clothes on! Best doctor appointment I have ever had!

10 min and you are done! And you see the funny pictures that show you have bones!
I looked at the screen and it looked like a great BBQ was going on!

Which reminds me - breakfast is overdue. Think I will ask CW for a badger paw. Tree's bear claws might be too big.

Kozzie & James Welcome Back!!! Always glad to have you here.[:)]

Jay,I think Mookie is right, you do need a rest;you've been inhaling too much
steam & cinders recently. If you don't want the hammock, maybe Ia. Brian
will let you use the recliner.[:D]

Actually Mook,Carl was checking to see if the "fridge' door was shut tight.

Ia. Brian,Sarah did say when she's not been busy working, she has watched
the water rise and if you will supply the piping, she'll make sure you all get
Plenty of water out that way!![:D]

Mook, that test sounds like something CW needs to do;is that with an orthopedic
doctor,or somebody just "pulling your leg"?!
And RIBS for breakfast?![%-)][swg]

Eastern Iowa is in relatively good shape (the corn will be waist high by the 4th of July), but we certainly won't object to running the pipe to the dryer folks west of us...

Kozzie and James: It is nice to have you guys back in here. Make sure you stop into the diner more often. Just be advised that your meals might be as backwards as your toilets! (e.g. you might be getting breakfast for dinner)[dinner]

Carl: Thanks for clearing up the cyclonic issue. Your bi-hemispheric daughter doesn't happen to know what would happen should one flush a toilet right on the equator, would she? BTW, be sure you jiggle the handle on the door and come in here more often!

Cannonball: Thanks for the comment on the picture. For some reason I'm drawn to abandoned things (buildings, railroads, cars, etc.). Always take the opportunity to shoot them when I can.

Brian: I'm pretty sure you're right about the cyclone/hurricane thing. However, never having lived anywhere near a coast, I really haven't studied them as much as supercell T-storms. I do know that very rarely a tornado can be anti-cyclonic (which is relative to one's hemisphere). I assume the same would be true of larger weather phenomena if the situation was just right.

Mikeygaw: If you happen to see Sarah out watching floodwaters, tell her that she needs to come in here and get a bite to eat. Can't floodwatch on an empty stomach.

Jay: The real question before us all is this: Which way does the water flow if one is looking into a mirror while standing on that hypothetical ceilling down under? Or...if someone flushes a toilet in the middle of the woods down under....

Shoot, forgot to mention this.

I play live trivia with a couple friends of mine every Tuesday evening at a local establishment. Last night we were tied with another team after the last question, so we went to a tie-break question (where the closest answer is the winner). The question we were asked: "In inches, what is the standard gauge for American railroads?" Ha! I almost did a lively Irish Jig! See, just another bonus of being a railfan!

Mornin' all.

The Adirondack RR would be glad to ship some of the wet stuff out west, especially the stuff that washed out part of the ballast in Otter Lake, and who knows where else.

Still waiting for word on what that will do to operations - it cuts off the "Utica train" since it can't go all the way to Thendara.

The Thendara train can probably run, unless there are other issues further up the line that I haven't heard about. Runarounds are out, though, as part of the washout involves the passing siding at Otter Lake...

Guess it's about time to post lunch menu for today. It will be "cold cut" day, with
your choice of potato chips, fries, or onion rings. The cold cuts will be:

1. bologna sandwiches
2. ham & cheese
3. deli roast beef

We've got plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, and whatever condiments, etc. you'd like on
your sandwiches.

Today's desserts:

grape or strawberry Jell-O w/fruit cocktail in it
strawberry shortcake
cherry cobbler w/ice cream

OK then....How many inches apart do the rails have to be before the wheels start falling on the ground on their own. Bonus question: How many inches apart can the rails be and still haul passengers and hazardous stuff while still being legal. (maximum & minimum)....[C):-)][C):-)][C):-)]
