Tom,sounds like a good idea,if we can get Joe to cooperate.

In our area,if we take cans to the recycle center,we get 34-36 cents a pound for them.(last time we went)

Leftover stew and roast beef sandwiches for supper tonight. Too tired
after the train show to actually cook tonight. Promise you all I'll make
up for it tomorrow.

Morning everyone. Gee, has no one been in the diner overnight? Remember:
we ARE open 24/7/365, you know.

Breakfast will be: turkey bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and
"tator tots". Also have about every kind of jelly to put on biscuits and toast.

We are getting ready to get ready and go to the train show here in Louisville
today. I'm feeling better this morning, and don't want to disappoint 'mutt by
missing the train show.[B)][:p]

Joe, mutt says that he remembers the old DT&I Ann Arbor. He used
to live across the river from Ironton, OH when the old DT&I was still
running down the street (along with N&W). He thinks he's got a set
of decals for the DT&I.

When he worked at TESCO, designing crossing signals, etc., he
worked with a couple of guys: one who came from DT&I, and the
other one came from Ann Arbor. He has several pictures of the
Ann Arbor from the early 70s, around Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, MI.

Unfortunately,no 'kitty' cars on the 'layout.
That would be a 'little' after the time span I model.
Do have a "Blue/Yellow box car.(I painted & decaled it)
I've thought about changing time spans, and modeling
newer schemes,as much as I like the 'Chessie' scheme;
I'm still in the 50s mode, with the plain 'Enchantment Blue'
and yellow lettering.

Well Joe, the stew sounds good for tonight. Perfect weather for it, too.

We ended up not going to the train show, cause I got sick. Can't seem
to shake this virus/sinus infection. We will try to go to the train show
tomorrow, after they open up at 10.

Morning everyone! So far, all we're getting is rain. Hasn't changed to
freezing rain YET. Hope it doesn't.

Breakfast will be a nice big country breakfast:

Bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes. Think Joe
brought in more hash browns, so will fix them also.

Could someone else do lunch for me today? We're going to a
train show here today.

Thanks Carl,
I took an AT in Camp Greyling back in the late '80s,
Plus, with my first wife, having several relations in the Ann Arbor,
Ypsilanti,Milan,Detroit/Dearborn area,I'm sorta of familar with that.
Paid the deposit on 'canned' drinks several times.

Mikey,I can't answer 'that question',but Mi. was one of the first states
to start charging for something like that,to reduce 'litter'.
If you take the cans or bottles back, your deposit is refunded.
(at least it was,then)

I'd Better get prepared;as our wedding anniversary is about a week away.

NO, No. I spent $9.99 rebuilding them. I'm thinking of asking congress for more $$ to complete rebuilding them!! [:D]

Sorry I've been absent from here today. Went to the library, and went to
Mickey D's to meet with my neice. Also got to see her stepdaughter, and
her baby girl who will be two on March 27. It's the first time I've seen
the baby. Just got home about a half hour ago.

The pizza sounds good for supper, Joe.

Congratulations, Tree, to both daughter and proud parents.

You're not the only one who depends on Michigan for his poison of choice. I love Mountain Dew, but have to curb the caffeine intake. You can't get caffeine-free Dew around here, so I import the cans from Michigan whenever I can (diet, of course!). I'll gladly pay the Michigan can deposit--it's worth it, even though (as I've been told on this forum before) it's just fizzy flavored water now.

Haven't been able to find that in our local area for quite a few years!

Vernor's is now a Cadbury-Schweppes brand. http://www.dpsu.com/vernors.html It's still available in it's original market area (it was originally made in Detroit), and also seems to have migrated into the snowbelt (undoubtedly following its many fans who have moved south). I've gotten it in Phoenix before.

Vernor's was the original soda, IIRC. All ginger ales were similar (that is to say dark) until prohibition, when most chose to go with the lighter drinks you now see so they would not be associated with bootlegging. Vernors stayed the course, and is now about the only dark ginger ale on the market. Many fans say that it's not as robust as it once was, but it's still great stuff.

I find that drinking it from a can is not as satisfying as drinking it from a glass, since you can't enjoy the bouquet from the can. The classic Vernors container is, of course, the bottle. Highly carbonated, it'll make you sneeze if you get a nose full of fizz. But it's worth it.

Daughter called last night (she called lots of people - none of them seemed to be home, including me) with news that she's been accepted for a "Habitat for Humanity" project in Africa. To say that she is excited about it would be a severe understatement. By her own description she was "buzzing."

This will be her second trip to a third world country. She taught ESL for six months in the Dominican Republic several years ago.

All she has to do now is come up with some money. She's sure her church will be a major benefactor, as they've supported this type of thing before.

And get all her shots....

.....if you only knew how hard that barrel aged stuff is to find out here, esp. the diet version! Know what I have to find tomorrow at the store.[^][^][^]

I know exactly how hard that stuff can be to find. My last visit to Michigan netted 11 cases, of which I have slightly less than one left. Not gonna make a special trip just to get it, but will definitely miss it in the interim...
