Didn't watch the game, have semi kept up with the scores;guess that Sarah will be happy
about the "Steelers" getting the win and it being a Pennsylvania team.
Although I'm not that big of a football fan,my team got knocked out of competing a couple
of weeks ago. So......................just basically helped out doing party stuff today;hope
everyone else enjoyed all the "Excitement"!!

Larry;don't think it got over 30 degrees here today. Our wind chill is making it hard for us.
I think the last I heard was around 18 degrees. We Louisvillians don't like cold weather,
we prefer "warmer climes!!!!

Carl;how can you ride a bicycle with all those clothes on ?[:-,]

That's why I don't go much colder--flannel-lined jeans, and a sweater and thermal sweatjacket over my shirt. If I had to wear more than that I wouldn't be able to move! Thinking about a one-way trip tomorrow, but it might be too windy.

Carl, what do you wear for shoes and gloves? And what do you have on your head? I have a pair of winter cycling gloves that work slick. Normally I put neoprene booties over my road shoes but if it's really, really cold I'll take my clipless pedals off and put platform pedals on so I can wear insulated hikers. I have a head sock under my helmet or I use a coolmax beanie that barely fits under the brain bucket. We haven't had a lot of snow that's lasted so I haven't used the studded tires yet this season. I'm glad the commute's only 2.7 miles this time of year.

Good morning, everyone! Nice and cold here, so have fixed a nice, hot meal.

You have your choice of: turkey bacon, or sausage with scrambled eggs,
biscuits and sausage gravy; oatmeal & toast (regular toast toasted in the
broiler, or cinnamon toast.

Lunch today will be spaghetti casserole w/garden salad and garlic toast.

Joe - traded in the neighbors for a very cold house. That side isn't helping heat all that much. Found out you can't eat soup with mittens on and washing your fur is impossible! Yech....

...It doess feel a bit more like February here now and If it gets no worse, no problem....22.1 degrees right now and the sun is just this very minute shining in my office east window and just about to hit my computer screen....and I think it's great. Last of snow was Saturday night...Total here: 2" Not bad.....That's 15.5" {total}, I've measured at our location so far this season...Still, I consider that not bad...Avg. is about 27" per season. To have sunshine, but colder now for next several days...and still no problem with that...February continues to dwindle away....and that's a good thing....

Quentin;our indoor/outdoor thermometer is showing 25 degrees right now,
not supposed to get a lot warmer today. Maybe make it to 30.
Supposedly,we had 3" of snow over the weekend;we did not see Anything like that here,
didn't even get a good "Dusting" on the grass.

It certainly is a good thing the 3 little kittens were NOT the pie. [:o)] [}:)] [:D]

Or was that the 3 little blackbirds? ? ? [B)]

Well the "major" weather change is here. I am not sure it turned out to be the major change they predicted but it certainly is not the spring like weather to which we have become accustomed. Our temp is 39, but with a 13 mph wind from the NW the feels like temp is 31. So it definately is coat weather. [:(!] You guys up north are probally happy the single digits they predicted are not happening. Yet they are saying next week will be a little worse. We shall see. I always take a wait and see approach. Weather a week away is too hard to predict with any real accuracy, well that is what I think anyway. [;)]

I hope I am not forced to work our next Monday holiday. I have Tuesday and Wednesday off as they are my normal days off. I am taking a Safety Day on the Thursday following President's Day. So hopefully I will have a 4 day weekend and will go to Missouri (weather premitting) for a late Thanksgiving and Christmas. (I have unopened Christmas presents waiting for me.) They are saying since I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas that we will be having a nice TURKEY dinner. [:D] [:p] [:D] My turkey dinner here was a TV dinner and it was no so good. [B)] [V] So I am looking forward to family, friends, and FOOD. [;)] [:D] [:p]

Hey ED

I was servicing a train Saturday and found something a little different. I opened the icebox (as I always do to check it and throw away "JUNK" of needed) and found silver cans. At first I thought they were sodas. Then I saw a star on them. I thought oh no . . . someone had BEER on this engine. [:0] So I quickly put them into a blue ice bag and carried them off. Later, I decided to look at them again. The large white star has a blue, red, and white "Texas" centered in the star. Then in the upper left hand part of Texas are the letters " P T R A " . By now Ed is already laughing as he knows these cans are just their "bottled" drinking water. All the other railroads use real bottled water, this is the first time I have seen "canned" bottled water. [;)] [:)] I have 4 of them I am keeping for souvineers. [8D] A guy, who will be retiring late this year, said he has a whole case of them. [:0]

Well, got to go, tons of stuff to do before time for work.

Everyone TAKE CARE.

I presume that's the outside temperature (at least if it's Fahrenheit. 25C wouldn't be bad inside).[:D]

Winter has definitely returned with a vengence here - Lake Effect machine is in full swing, and we are picking up several inches. Will have to fire up the snowblower before too long. Many schools closed or delayed this morning, and those in the snowbelt that didn't close have now.

The snow is bad enough - it's the wind that's causing the problems. I've been clearing my peak wind counter periodically so I can catch new gusts - so far I've seen 30 (last night at 9:18), 21 (at 1:13 AM), and 24 (at 10:22 this morning). And I've already got 12 mph recorded.

Visibility is limited, as you may guess, and with all of our mild weather, everyone has once again forgotten how to drive in winter conditions again. Many, many cars off the road, with a few accidents. Fortunately no major injuries... yet...

Stayed home from work with a "good" cold - hope I get past it by tomorrow. Hate being sick!

Had some of that chicken soup I found on the range for lunch. Helped a little.[:)]

Joe, hot beef stew coming up. Cornbread's in the oven. Thought we'd have
some nice hot apple cobbler for dessert. How's that sound, everyone?

Larry, yes that was 24 degrees F. for outside temp, not inside.

Blue sky here in Muncie all day......Snow melting fast....My sending unit for the electronic thermometer was in the sun until just a bit ago and is reading 45.1 so I suppose it is a bit below that actually....Mechanical Thermometer is reading 41....So this February day is not bad at all....and believe we're to have some sunshine each day this week....and that's a good thing...!

Who's ready for beef stew, cornbread and hot apple cobbler? It's all ready,
so grab a bowl of stew, a slice of cornbread, and and a bowl of cobbler.
If you want ice cream on the cobbler, it's in the freezer.

I'm in for supper tonight!

We had a clear but cold day--too breezy for the bike (wind chill in the single digits, and a headwind).

Biking gear: on my hands, biking gloves until about 35, regular knit gloves below that.

On my head, a hood. Or a helmet. Rarely both (no helmet yesterday). Often neither (but not yesterday).

On my feet: work boots, usually. Had lighter boots on yesterday because I wasn't working. I don't use the penny loafers too often.

In my heart: a song.

Probably not--could be almost anything from "Walking in the Air" to "Sixteen Tons"!

Could also be anything from Bach to Mahler to Khachaturian (my sinful pleasure).

Good morning, all! Any new patrons, welcome to the Depot Diner/Coffee Shop!

Coffee is on, juice is made. Have apple juice and orange/tangerine juice this
morning.

Breakfast is laid out on the warmer bar: oatmeal, toast, turkey bacon, sausage
patties & sausage links, sausage gravy, biscuits.

Carl, if anyone here doesn't know "Sixteen Tons", where on earth have they been?
(Oh, unless they aren't old enough to have ever listened to Tennessee Ernie
Ford, guess they wouldn't know that song).

Long story short - 9 different doctors, 14 dr appts, 1 cortizone shot, 2 xrays, 1 ct scan, one suggested hip replacement, not one could explain the small pain in abdomen. Lots of schooling and shoulder shrugging. Everyone to a person said either I have no idea or no clue! Not one suggested an internist!

Finally Driver went to an internist who listened very intently, wrote down all the symptoms, asked a few pertinent questions and wrote a prescription for something that works on frayed nerve endings (my words) She.......pause for dramatic effect...........she said it sounds like a small muscle tear that healed and may have pinched the nerve endings in the process.

We both nearly fainted from relief - that is what we have been trying to tell above said doctors since March of 2005!!!! Took one pill and got instant relief. She.....another pause for effect.........she said if this doesn't work over a period of 4 weeks, we will "do something a little more drastic".

I have a little agenda with said doctors, but won't air it here. Just so happy to finally have some relief and if it is temporary, that maybe something can be done for it from another angle.

Hope springs eternal.

Now going to nudge someone into making me an omelette - bacon, tomato, cheddar cheese well cooked and whole wheat toast. Coffee. Lay it by the hammock - I am exhausted! Please and thank you!
