Okay, I'm totally awake now, so here's the lunch specials today:

1. tuna casserole
2. salmon patties w/creamed potatoes, peas and carrots. Dessert:
chocolate pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie: all served w/ice cream.

Now, I'm off to Kroger, and get the turkey breasts to have in the freezer
for our Thanksgiving Dinner.

Salmon sounds good here, too.

My current bike is a Diamondback Parkway. It seems to have some premature rust in the crank area of the frame, but has held up for a good 15,000 miles or more (annual maintenance alternates between tuneups and overhauls). I don't jump curbs or anything like that, but have been known to hit some unavoidable pieces of ballast and such around the yard.

Jay, I wish I were making your trip.

And yes, Brian, Ford's reputation for clumsiness was totally undeserved. With the possible exception of TR, he was the most physically fit and athletic president we ever had.

Okay, back from Kroger, and have the turkey breasts in the freezer. Also got
the stuffing mix, shellie beans and cranberry sauce.

Supper tonight will be: Mexican night, with tacos, tamales, quesadeas, and
refried beans. Everything will be on the warmer bar, so you can fix your own.

CW - I'll be on the upper left coast for Thanksgiving, but will make sure there is some of my "famous" cranberry relish available for the patrons. It's simple - bag of cranberries, a navel orange, an apple, and a cup of sugar. Run the fruit through a grinder or food processor, then add the sugar. Some folks like some walnuts in it, too. Best if prepared a day or two before serving, so it can mull through really well.

Son suggests a dinner train while I'm there - will make an interesting diversion.

Tree! I made this one time! Didn't have a grinder, so used a hand grater on every one of those itty bitty cranberries. Aside from a little knuckle, it was delicious!

Boy - one corner to the other! That's a pretty dramatic Thanksgiving!

Locomutt...Yes, the pine cones are very plentyful this year...I have several evergreens at the back of my lot right where it connected to fairway...and I'm amazed at the amount of pine cones laying around there this year....They don't seem to be very hard and solid so it doesn't seem to do any damage to mower....
My mulcher mower did a pretty good job for me yesterday and we'll make some more passes over the area again when we find enough leaves to work on...{Won't be difficult to do}....Already have some down and on the yard since yesterday.
Full sunshine and clear skies today....and pretty nice for early November.

Modelcar, you want leaves? I'll share some of mine! My 0.1 acre lot with two trees produces 40 bags worth. And it just rained yesterday and today so they're nice and wet and heavy.

Good afternoon All,

Sorry I haven't been around the Diner too much. Guess I'm too busy stirring up trouble elsewhere. I think it's a quote from The Chosen by Chaim Potok, if I remember correctly: "If a word is worth a dollar, then silence is worth two." That might actually be from the Torah, and quoted in The Chosen. Been too long since I read that book, though it was one of my favorites in high school. Whatever the case, maybe I should take it to heart a bit.

Well, I must be on my merry way. Hope you all have a great evening. And an early thank you to all of our veterans. Your sacrifice, and the ultimate sacrifice of those who did not make it are valued very dearly by this proud American. Thank You!

Chris, glad to see you back in here. Don't stay away so long; maybe you can help
us find some who seem to have wondered off: like Kevin the RR man in Quebec,
for example.

Hope you all enjoy the supper tonight. (And espeefoamer, I ALWAYS provide
"Beano" tablets just before I serve meals like this).

And yes, let us all remember to pay homage to our veterans tomorrow!! We
should all be very, very proud of them, and let them know how proud we are
of them.

Not only was I not downwind, I was in the next county.

My wife informs me that evergreens will produce more pine cones during a dry season--sort of a survival instinct. I don't remember Louisville having a drought this past summer like we did, but can vouch for the fact that our cedar tree had more little blue berries than I've ever seen on it before.

Good Friday morning, all!! Know you all are very glad to see Friday come. Along
with Friday, we got down to 32 here in Louisville this morning. So. . .

Breakfast will be: oatmal, toast, sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs.

In the process of making a huge pot of beef vegetable soup for lunch. There
will also be the standard Friday fare of fish & fries, tuna salad sandwiches,
grilled cheese sandwiches, and PB&J sandwiches.

Dessert: mixed fruit or strawberry Jell-O and oatmeal-raisin cookies.

Wow! I am exhausted - been out "cattin'" around. Meowed out!

Psst - CW - what's a shellie bean?

Chris - when I worked in a restaurant, had a trio of brothers that came in. One was grumpy, so we ignored him, one was quiet and one was the spokesman of the group.

The talker told me that the quiet one was that way cuz when he was born, God gave him only so many words and he didn't want to use them up! Cracked me up!

Nap time!

Mookie, I thought you knew what shellie beans are!! The shellies come from
the big, fat bean pods, that you have to split them open, and take out the beans.
Then you put them in with the other green beans, and cook them all together!![}:)]

Joe - it's in the flower bed - behind the roses - next to the - well you will find it. I sure did! In the dark!

CW - must be a Kentucky thing. All our beans require a can opener or just snapped. The only thing I shell is an occasional peanut.

I almost forgot - Driver went for a walk yesterday and found the 3 hen turkeys that are living in an adjoining neighborhood. We saw an article in the paper that they were living right in the neighborhood - a small park within the neighborhood. They were roosting on the roof of a house when they were photographed. He said they were out for a walk, too.

Ah - big city life and small town feel.

Mmmm... I'll try to get back! Missed out yesterday, the wife was hogging the computer all evening. She's working on thank-yous to all the family and friends following her mother's passing, so I didn't complain.

Which reminds me- one last thank you to all you diner patrons for your support over the last couple of weeks.

Oh, and the diet is going well- I'm down about 18 pounds now. If I can keep this up, maybe by next summer I'll be able to out-run a Class 3 train![:D]

It looks like I am going to be on the road when we hit the 10,000 post mark and once again I will miss the party. Oh well, I am getting too old to stay up all night and party.

We'll be having a fish fry for supper tonight: got some cod, perch, and haddock,
and we'll have your choice of fries or potato wedges, that are just a tad bit spicy.
they're really good (especially when you make them from nice, long Idaho taters!
Got plenty of seafood sauce, tarter sauce, & ketchup to put on your fish. And if
you want to make it a fish sandwich, have white, whole wheat, and rye bread.

Also, we'll have an extra pizza night tonight for anyone who doesn't want
fish.

Dessert: more fried apple pies. Been getting a bunch of apples lately at the

Tuesday morning Produce give-away!! Have also baked quite a few apple pies,
that are stored in the freezer.
