I've been looking at some of the pages in Depot & Coffee Shop and it seems like the favorite subject of a lot of you other folks out there is food. I am between jobs right now and I am considering offering my skill as a cookie baker to ANYONE out there who might be interested, as a creative way of earning some income.

For the last 25 years I have been in charge of producing a lot of cookies, chocolate fudge brownies and cinnamon rolls for the rest of our railroad club members to munch on during the course of all our open houses, especially our "Fair Week" open house which is always held in August in conjunction with the Sioux Empire Fair. And our club members would tell you that no one makes a better cookie than I.[C=:-)]

While I have not yet decided what I would charge for a dozen cookies, you would get a minimum of three dozen from a single batch, and you would have a choice among chocolate chip, oatmeal with butterscotch chips & grated coconut, and peanut butter. And I make a pretty good molassis/sugar cookie as well. And I would fill and ship orders on a first-come-first served basis as my time will permit.

And while I doubt that I would ever meet any of you others face-to-face, I think this would be a fun thing to do. May I ask what the rest of you out there think of my idea? Thank you!!

Ray good luck with your future endevors in the cooking industry. I do have a question for you, could you whip up some of those cookies for me now?? Sometimes I get sick of eating Oreo's but, they are still good. My high school home bakes their chocholate chip cookies and man was I addicted to them!! I still am, now when I go back to the building just for a visit or on a bussness matter I'll go to the cafateria and pick up some cookies. They are expensive though.... 35cents each.

Jay and CW I'm ready for those RIBS and fies now..........can I have some please?/ I'm ready!! [dinner][dinner].

Carl you are more that welcome to take me railfaning in the midwest anytime of the day, week, month, year. I could use that right about now because I am bored out of my mind.

Latest news from the land of the Madison crazies party--140 arrests on Friday night alone on assorted charges. I stayed as far away as I dared, but had to go downtown on an errand this afternoon. Saw a lot of eye candy (sorry, 25-year-old hormones acting up again!!).

Really???? Thats awsome!!! Chestnut Hill or the Hill as it's reffered to in Philly is only 5 mins from were I live. Chestnut Hill back in the day (1700s) was a hang out or an area for Philadelphia's elite society. It still is today. There are lots of older colonal homes or manors in Chestnut Hill. I like to call it "Old Money". I on occasions go bike riding through Chestnut Hill, it really is a beautiful town inside Philly.

<sneaking in the door to check things out>

That apple pie in the reach-in sure looks good. I just think I will sample CW's talent with pie making and have a slice. [:p] (One of the perks of being "da boss". [;)] ) The pie and a nice large, chilled glass of milk will make a nice early morning/late night snack.

Everything looks fine here.

Yall take care now, bye bye. [:)]

Morning Joe! Glad to see I'm not the only early riser. Unfortunately, the dogs' internal clocks don't reset immediately and when their clocks say "outside", they mean NOW! Then breakfast for them and a few minutes of play time.
Pour me a cup of java, black with sugar, please. Any chocolate frosted doughnuts in that batch?

I personally do not feel that I will be taking very many orders for cookies from anyone out there, right now there doesn't seem to be much interest. I am going to try to fill at least one order for a customer out in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and I will let her rave about my cookies, hopefully she will give them a good review.

As for you being diabetic, I can sympathize with you. I'm supposed to be watching my own diet for the very same reason, so welcome to the diabetes club![sigh]

I never had the guts either.......

Well, for the fourth year in a row, the cops in Madison had to use teargas to break up the crowd at the Halloween party on State St. They had about 225 arrests last night. One interesting side note was that the police were trying to break up the crowd before the bars closed, and had to resort to the gas. The mayor made the comment that he will try to cancel the event next year.

I stayed as far away as I could from the place, and played poker online all night.

Think I'll help myself to the brunch bar.

Randy and Chad, sometimes I like to live by these says "Life is too short" and "Seize the Moment" So I decided that when I get the chance to do something I'm going to go ahead and do it. So this way when times goes on I wont be living in the past saying something like (Oh I should of done this when I had the chance". I also tend to get away with a lot of things, believe it or not. All in all I really didn't have the party......................oh well.

Modelcar, Yes I agree it is a small world and Chestnut Hill is a really nice place to live. It is also pretty darn expesive too. I always kid around with my grandmom and ask here why didn't she buy a house in Chestnut Hill instead of right outside of Chestnut Hill. (She doesn't listen) lol.

Joe, if you want, fix you a couple of to-go plates. That way, you'll have
something for work tomorrow night, also!! Hope everyone is enjoying
the turkey and dressing meal I fixed today.

Tonight, on "Grey's Anatomy", there is supposed to be casualties coming
into the ER after a train wreck/accident of some type. Should be interesting
to see. Mutt and I will definitely be watching it. If you don't know what channel
that show is on, it's on ABC, 10 p.m. EST.

Good evening all, thought I'd stop in real quick and try to catch up- been somewhat preoccupied here dealing with the likely death of my mother-in-law, who is 89 and bed-ridden in her home here in town. Wish I were able to take the camera out, as I've seen a few interesting railroad subjects while driving back and forth across town lately. Hopefully this will all be over soon, though, with minimum suffering for Mom, and we and my wife's family can all get back to normal lives.

Hey CW, is tonight's meal a preview for Thanksgiving? Sounds scrumptious!

Brian, yeah, giving a "sneak peak" for Thanksgiving. Will remember you,
your wife, mother-in-law, and rest of the family in my prayers.

Breakfast this morning: sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, toast, and
turkey bacon.

Lunch special today: turkey sandwiches w/fries.

Supper tonight will be hamburgers, so the little ones can go trick or
treating, and the olders ones can hand out candy. There will be a
big bowl of Halloween candy placed on the Diner/Coffee Shop counter
later on this morning.

Wait - a pastry chef? Whatever would make you think you aren't wanted here??? I'll rummage throught the storeroom and find that glass case so everyone can see the delicacies you're making and pick out their favorites. Sweets here at the diner have no calories, so we can eat all we want.

Feel free to surprise us. CW keeps us in all sorts of main courses, Locomutt and I handle the occasional barbequed items, and everyone enjoys the good eats and cameraderie.

^~^.........is this better? All better and back to normal-er.

Halloween will be tonite in the city. We have the candy at the front door and while we don't have too many wee ones in the neighborhood, we will probably have some imports from the friends and relatives of next-door. The adults seem to travel in rather large herds....4-5 cars at a time! Only 2-3 more months and lease is up and they will be history!

Anyway - weather beautiful here in the true midwest and nice nite for a little hob-goblin!

Driver will attend to the door whilst I relax and file my tiny little daggers....

Moo!

I take it that a lot of imagination is used here in this forum, Larry. So go ahead and get that glass display case out of storage and you can stock it with my calorie-free cookies, cinnamon rolls and home made breads! [C=:-)][dinner][dinner][dinner][dinner]

Imagination is the only real thing on the menu here. But we will drool on the glass case and tell you how wonderful you are and make paw prints on all the items. Lots of paw prints!

Good bakers are always in demand and I can't imagine you could find your niche in the real world. Have worked with some of the best and they always seemed to do well. Even part-time!
