Good morning from Burlington, WI all.....

Spent nine hours chopping corn yesterday, untill I got tired of resetting the circuit breaker for the work lights. The chopper needed a break anyway. Managed to fini***he first bag and got about nine loads into the second. What the corn lacks in quality it sure makes up for in quantity! I was in the lowest gear the tractor has, and still occasionally was plugging up the two-row corn head.

CW, I'll take a big stack of pancakes w/ maple syurp, and sausages. The tractor will take 50 gallons of #2 diesel and the chopper will take a grease job. I'm hoping to get the second silage bag finished today, and started on the third.

Randy

RIGHT ON BROTHER!! CAN YOU SEND SOME OF THAT CORN MY WAY???? Please (puppy doggie eyes) [bow] I could use some good high quality Kern now! [:D]

....Walt, thanks for the bit if info on that NYC bridge this morning....It is an interesting subject to see magnificent structures such as that one but sad to understand it's not being used anymore.....The strength of such units is such it probably would last another hundred years if it's pilasters stay under it....It's a shame they can't be moved to someplace where good use could come from it on another RR....I'm sure that would be cost prohibitive. We have a double span through girder bridge here in Muncie that's set abandoned since about 1970 and it looks like it will stand for a hundred years yet if it's supports stay under it.....{Ex. Pennsylvania RR}.

NYC still had a small engine terminal, with a turntable; downtown in
in the 1970s.....believe they shared it with the C & O.
(that entire area is now a part of "Slugger Field")

Thanks. The February 1995 Railfan has a good article about L&N in Louisville and Louisville's Union Station and mentions NYC and IC had their own Central Station along the river. Amtrak never used this bridge but did use the other two. Is the ex PRR bridge now owned by Louisville and Indiana only used by LIRC ?

...Referring to the "NYC bridge" mentioned above....For years {when heading south}, driving across the Ohio river at that spot on I-65 and peeking over at that abandoned bridge I've wondered what will become of it and how long it might stand there without any "attention" of maintenance, etc....and passing under it in a boat some years ago noting the immensity of it and how awesome it appears and no approaches in place to either end.....makes it look so out of place. One wonders how railroads afforded to build such structures in years past. I'm glad to hear {Walt}, indicate it may see some use as a trail in upcoming years....

Good morning everyone. Joe, thank you for getting the coffee started, and fixing the juice.

Chris, that is a very good photo. I second Joe's idea of sending it to Trains Magazine.

Saturday brunch will be: your choice of sausages, biscuits and gravy, or pancakes
with your choice of sausage or bacon with them, along with any kind of syrup, or whatever
you like on your pancakes.

To all who responded about the Elevator pics...thank you so much for your kind words.[:I] In truth I just changed the sig. photo to keep a fresh look to the sig. I didn't really think this one would get a lot of attention...he he he

Well, we were back up in the 80's today. Sigh...it was a nice break. Can all my Illinoisan buddies see if they can find some nice cool weather while I'm back there (Oct. 11-17)? Thanks!

Well, must be off for the evening. Might head up to East Portal this weekend if I get a chance. Will share some pics if I make it there.

Question-
Where is the diner, North Little Rock, Louisville, or just Railroad Avenue ?

The bridge in question,is the old "Big 4" bridge. It had been abandoned before
I moved here in '73;and the approaches on both sides were still in place, they
were taken out around 1975. As of right now,the bridge belongs to the city
of Louisville, and is to be made into a walking/bike path, with some small shops
on it. The Lou. side is to have circular walkways built from "Waterfront Park";
In. side is still up in the air. The last I've heard,it is to be operating (?) by 2008.

And I believe the "Diner" is" VIRTUALLY" where ever you want it to be.[:)]

Fly-through window isn't two far-fetched: I know a farm on the road to Rochelle that has a mailbox mounted on a pole about that tall. Labeled "Air Mail", of course!

You wouldn't believe what my back has to go through regularly (and what it's capable of doing on occasion).

A week from tomorrow should be good, MC--I'll probably be working in the PM, though.
Keep in touch.

Mook sounds a little agitated--I think she was looking forward to capturing some cinnamon squirrels, and found those sedentary rolls instead.

Sometimes you don't realize the brilliance of a photo until well after you've taken it.

Very nice. Would look good in large format hanging on a living room wall.

....Chris...Very nice sunset photo....I have a very similar one taken here about a mile from home standing on the crossing looking NW on NS Frankfort line...Believe it was shot about early June some years ago and mine is the golden sunshine on the rails to infinity actually past some elevator buildings {and a real train going away from me}, and the sun right above the tracks...making it a silhouette shot.

Chris, LOVE the sunset elevator pic. I can "see" a picture like that but I don't have squat for photog knowledge so I just have to put them in my digital brain. But unfortunately, due to my misguided youth and short term memory loss, my memory card is hard to restore. LOL ( maybe it's just old age) Anyway keep em coming so I can live vicariously thru your camera lense.

Willy,

Thanks for the kind words. That was the end result of chasing on the Limon Sub that yielded nothing...apart from that shot. I do like it though. I'm kind of partial to the "classic" wooden elevators back in the midwest, so I'll probably try to get some shots of them when I'm back in October here.

Thanks again!
