Corn-gratulations Carl (I think)....

Still intend to fly into your backyard in 8 days (If I can get all this Ben-Gay out of my sun-scorched feathers - gak![xx(])

Frost on the ties this morning and 75 degrees this afternoon, finally!

Please set a 55 gallon drum of Diet Coke out on the fly-thru window please. (Yeah, the little window 15 feet above the drive-thru window, Tree uses one of his ladders to get way up there....)

Joe, thank you for getting the cinnamon swirls for breakfast.

Lunch and supper today: baked ham with all the trimmings:
green beans, fresh corn-on-the-cob, potato salad, and deviled
eggs.

Desserts: freshly made apple pie, peach pie, & oatmeal cookies.
(Plenty of ice cream to go on the pies).

Hmmm...

I have five stars.

Sarah had five ears.

Someone said that I was a "general".

Does that make Sarah a "Kernel"?

Evenin' all Been awhile, and it's pouring down rain tonight, so a good time to catch up. If you miss a couple of days you've got 10 pages to catch up on!

Chris, LOVE the sunset elevator pic. I can "see" a picture like that but I don't have squat for photog knowledge so I just have to put them in my digital brain. But unfortunately, due to my misguided youth and short term memory loss, my memory card is hard to restore. LOL ( maybe it's just old age) Anyway keep em coming so I can live vicariously thru your camera lense.

Joe, I've given up on beating you guys. What 9-6 for the year? Well, cards are in town and we seem to do well against them. Go figure, we can beat the best team in baseball but no one else.

Making change: interesting sidebar. In my mothers home town of Kalona Iowa there is a grocery store run by an Amish family. There are gas lights and no electricity. Their young kids ( 8-10?) run the old hand crank registers similar to the old adding machines. All they take is cash. NO plastic or checks. The kids make change and count it back without batting an eyelash. If the world were run like this it would be so much better. Nothing p****s me off more than going into WallyWorld and handing some twenty something cashier a $50 bill and watch them get that "deer in the headlights" look.

JDV-[#welcome] You can be yourself in her without being judged (in whisper) unless you're a cat hater.

Carl- A 5 star General!!!! Way to go! ( from a lowly 2 star sargeant) Congrats!

CW and Mutt- thanks for thoughts and email. Have just been swamped around the house. Am going into winter hibernation prepatation mode. Lots of wood to cut split and stack. Flowers need cutting back, all the usual. Mama and me are taking part of next week and weekend to fly out to Portland OR to nieces wedding and try to squeeze some alone time in. [swg] Been such a hectic summer, we've kind of forgot about us.

Mookie, glad to see you tought the noob about proper "kitty etiquite". Am not a cat lover per say, but no animal deserves that except the "one who wrote it". Nuff said.

Will stop in later for acold one before bed. Over and out Willy

Carl congrats on the new starr and your 2000th post.!!! Who does it feel to have 5 stars?? Pretty good huh? [bow]

CW did I hear something about Sweet CORN this morrning????? If we are haveing some tonight I think I'm going to need to have 5 ears (spelling). The corn is getting pretty dry up here in PA due to the lack of rain. That's good for those who are growing livestook corn but, for people like me that need to have some people corn (sweet corn) it's not that good. I love my PA corn. I think I'm going to have to make another trip over to my friend's farm and pick some more corn before it goes by by.

Speaking of rain it rained here in PA today!! I think we were getting a little portion of Ophellia (spelling). It's due to rain tomorrow too. This morning it got to the point of were people couldn't drive because the rain was comming down so hard and fast. It was so dark out too, I mean it really did look like a twister was comming. Looking down into the valley from Conshohocken, PA I could see the huge storm clouds and thick fog. It was pretty neat though I was alomost late for work this morrining.

Randy, just "call in" your food orders, and we'll get them to you all out in the
fields.

And I think someone is still trying to get Bergie to come up with a design for a
6th category. Someone suggested a tiara for the Mookster; I think it should be
a silver & gold steam loco (for the steam train fans) and a blue & yellow diesel
loco for diesel fans. Just my [2c] worth.

No, 2 comes in at 100, no.3 at 500, no. 4 at 1000, no.5 at 2000, I don't think they've thought of a no. 6 threshold yet.

Hi all, sorry I haven't been in here for a while, it's been busy in my life, as well as noisy.

Worked on a trailer for Dollar General the other day, apparently the person delivering the trailer got down to Tennessee and promptly sideswiped a tree-had to change out eight side sheets. Lots of air hammers working that night.....

Apparently you can't give your kids cough drops to take to school anymore.... Heard a story yesterday about it, teacher smelled alcohol on a kids breath, cops called, she blew .001 BAC, they gave her a ticket for underage drinking and the school suspended her for five days. All this just for cough drops.....

Sounds like I get to go back to Burlington this weekend, my parents e-mailed me this morning needing extra help on the farm. The silage bagger came yesterday, and with the corn drying down so fast, we need it in and out ASAP. So, seeing as I'll have corn coming out of my ears both figuratively and literally, I'll pass on the sweet corn.

Any outside chance the Diner can do delivery out to us in the field? If not, I'm sure I can find someone to run in and pick up food for all of us working out there.

Heading for the hammock - too bad you have to work....[}:)]

You can tell the pros--even though the cash register figures out how mich change is due, they'll count it out to you in the proper order--coins, small bills, then larger ones.

But you have to admit that without the modern electronic stuff, this diner would be nowhere!

Cher, today I feel like breakfast for lunch--can we still get some fried apples here?

Mookie's BC--has to go to work, but really wants to @ instead!

JDV5th. Welcome! I worked at the local grehound race track taking bets and making payoffs to the winners. "Amount Tendered" was not a feature available for cash handling, and many of all ages quickly left the job when they found they couldn't handle making change.

Keep up the good work.

Let's see - item, item, item, subtotal, OK slide your card. Do you want cash back? Here's your receipt!

Or - item, item, item, subtotal, amount tendered, your change is, "Darn, I gotta break that roll of dimes! Would you mind a couple of nickels instead?"

No wonder they don't know how to make change. I have to admit that I fall into that trap from time to time. Not that I spend a lot of time on a cash register.

I still like the story about the clerk who tried to scan the divider you put between your stuff and the other guy's stuff on the belt. She was about to call for a price check when the shopper told her to never mind - she wouldn't be wanting that today...
