[bday] Larry and Carl! Sorry I'm a little late on that one.

Spent the day roaming around looking for some fall color and such. Still a little early here, I guess. Still it was a lovely day to be out.

Sadly, my little Illinoisan excursion is coming to an end. I get aboard Amtrak #5, the eastbound CZ this afternoon at 2:24. [sigh] Oh well, I'll be back here for Thanksgiving.

Hope you all have a great week, and I'll see you all back at one Mile up!

TTFN!

Joe, thank you for putting the coffee on, and making the juice. Sorry, I overslept
this morning. Got a phone call at 3:45 this morning. Then went back to sleep.

Breakfast this morning: oatmeal, toast, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled
eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits.

Our current temp is in the mid 40s(?) this morning.

Lunch menu: chilli, chicken & dumplings, and leftover birthday cake (Mookie,
did you find the slice I put in your safe place for you?)

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. Spent the weekend in Rochester, NY at the NYS EMS conference ("Vital Signs"). An unexpected highlight was lunch Saturday at the Dinosaur Barbeque. It's a local delicacy, first available in Syracuse, now also in Rochester, and I believe NYC. The highlight wasn't the barbeque (I had the beef brisket), although it is excellent. The highlight was the location - the former Lehigh Valley RR station alongside the Genesee River. Didn't have my camera, so no pictures.

Learned lots of good stuff at the conference, picked up a few neat goodies, and overall had a good time. Now I gotta get ready to head for work in the morning.

Also, to let everyone know, there are a couple of birthday cakes for tonight,
so we can celebrate Larry's (Tree) and Carl's birthdays today.

Had a beautiful drive through the countryside today! Got some great fall-color shots, and even a couple of train shots. Caught a short local running through the tunnel at East Dubuque. Later, up in Prairie Du Chien, while eating supper at the Coaches Family Restaurant, I watched a total of six trains go by on the BNSF main- four SB, and two NB. One of the north-bounders had two non-BNSF engines- the first a CSX, and the second an NS.[%-)]

I'll have to upload pictures tomorrow- too late to mess with tonight.

Good morning everyone! Looks like we're going to have a beautiful Saturday:
sun is shining, and on the cool side.

Breakfast brunch bar is loaded with; turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs,
biscuits & gravy, strawberries, oranges. This will be served throughout the
day.

And, of course, we have the usual juice, coffee, hot/iced tea, hot chocolate,
and the usual soft drinks.

A belated Happy Birthday, Chris- I'll take a slice of the chocolate cheesecake. Sounds like the weekend will be perfect for picture-taking here, so the better half and I are thinking of running up into the northeast corner of Iowa and see what there is to see tomorrow.

CW...love 'em all, but I think I'll have to go with a slice of Strawberry...oooooohhhh....yeah....DELICIOus! As Bill Engvall would say, "Now that's awesome!!!!" [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Meanwhile, if I could only get the BNSF to cooperate. Was up early this morning, and went chasing out on the Aurora Sub out to about Big Rock. Should've found someplace to hang out, but instead thought I could turn around and make it to a pre-designated photo location...ummm...forgot that flatland railroading can be pretty quick. Man when did Z trains start having rocket booster packs as standard equipment??? Oh yeah...another cosmic question...how come minivans don't handle like my ex-police cruiser??? [:P]

After that one there were no eastbounds to be found, so headed over to Silver Springs State Park and played around with the 4x5 camera and some fall color shots. Will see what the morrow brings. Might be out chasing, or might head out hiking at Starved Rock and/or Matthiesen State Parks.

Thanks to all for the B-day wishes. Certainly had a great one. Hope the weekend is kind to you all!
