Evenin' all. Been a LONG week. Went to our Rochelle plant for a week on 3rd shift. When we went in on Sunday night after 100 degree day, it was 117 on the 8th floor. That cement tower building just absorbed sunshine all weekend. I lost 11 lbs. in 3 days. By the time I made the 65 mile trip home (30 being in construction zones) did the 3 "s" I was just to pooped to stop in to the Diner.
The crew wasn't too receptive to new stupidvisor coming in, so that made for a fun week.Engli***o Spanish dictionary was needed.[banghead] [soapbox] If you're going to live in this country, and work an 11 dollar an hour job, learn the language and don't give me that "deer in the headlights look" when I tell you to do something! Sorry!
Just venting frustrations.
Anyway, am back home to work at Erie this week on days so now I can readjust my sleep schedule once again and try to catch up on work around the house. We mowed the dirt today, just to even up the weeds and watergrass. Watched Cubs game in AC this afternoon. [banghead] *** rattlesnakes!
Well, am going to try and go to sleep. Maybe if I count freight cars instead of sheep I can crash. Will try to stop in catch up with all the news (and juicy gossip) over a cup of coffee and get some REAL breakfast. Willy, over and out!

Good morning, one and all! Breakfast this morning will be:
sausage (patties and links), biscuits and gravy, and cantalope.

Lunch will be: sandwiches from the regular lunch menu. Want
you all to save room for birthday cake later. (See thread for
Nance69).

Supper special tonight will be: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy,
and, of course, dessert tonight will be birthday cake & ice cream.

^~^ - I'm back!

Couple of observations, then a nap!

It's hot. It's humid. It's dry.

What's new?

Happily married couples should not pull up carpet together. One should pull and one should go back and rearrange the furniture and pack all the small stuff. Then both die at night from the hard work. The new carpet arrives the 12th and we have one more room to do. The biggie - living room. But at least it is on ground floor. Gave the neighbors two chairs and an old dresser. Didn't make them any quieter, but at least we have more walking room! (the chairs were canvas fold up and the dresser was early plywood!)

BC - if you notice when I laugh - I look like King Solomon's mine - I have a lot of gold in my teeth! And as befitting our family, at least one crown!

CW - I had some pizza at home over my time off. It was good! So I missed the diner, but not the pizza!

Got my Trains and Classic Trains magazine. Got to see where Joe and Modelcar live on the map and Nora, too! I can't relate too well to CSX and Amtrak, since I have very little contact with either one, but the new Trains has some great articles on both. Now I see what everyone is so upset about! Ah......so.....

Ok - off to work and happy, happy to be back! (work right after my nap in the hammock....)

Mookie

We did the carpet thing up stairs 3 years ago and downstairs 2 years ago, and to keep the cost down, we pulled up the old and did the furniture moving. Just to mention such a project makes me shudder. After all the work, it was easy to decide that we would adopt a shoes off rule (for us, not guests) and just as easy to follow that rule.

Reasonably cool here when I was up at seven, but it is now warming fast. Darn clock says it is now August which to me always means we are on the downside of summer. I am going to try to save some of this heat to counter the too soon coming cold.

Inside chores today and errands tomorrow getting ready to leave for Maryland via the Capitol Limited on Wednesday. We have a neighbor, college student, that house sits and looks after Fritz. She works all day, so if you want to check in and take Fritz for a walk, the key is in the usual spot.

Jay, if you've never been on the Capitol before, the scenery is spectacular after dawn (east of Connellsville, in my experience). And this is a grudging confession from someone who thinks the New River Gorge is spectaculer--B&O did pretty good, too.

SJ--I know where you're coming from. Used to have a bit of gold in my mouth, too, but this crown (which replaced a gold one) is white and toothy-looking. Soft tooth enamel is apparently an hereditary thing, in my family. I'm actually doing well--I don't have any removable teeth. My dad (who died when he was younger than I am now) had a set of choppers for as long as I can remember.

BC - see we are related! I have the soft tooth enamel thingie....have to be very careful -
Had a crown that had to be removed and they put in the white new thing. I rather liked the flash of gold from before, but this was much less expensive! But I still have my fair share!

My whole family still has their own teeth - mater and I keep ours sharp biting people .....(there's that German heritage again!)

Jay - I told the driver he can't even walk on the new carpet in stocking feet unless they are clean! I never wear shoes in the house - they drive me nuts - and he never goes without shoes. This will be very interesting!

I may check on Fritz and end up with a new pet..... [^]

Supper tonight will be a little late: probably about 7:00 tonight. Mutt and
I lost an important member of our household today. Our #1 kitty, who was
named Virginia Chessie. Know you all have heard Mutt and I talk about
her on the forums. She was 18 (turned 18 on July 4th). She was a
Maine Coon, who hailed from Virginia, and grew up in Ky. She seemed
to love trains. She found any way possible to get to Mutt's benchwork, and
curl down on the tracks. Guess that's about it for now.

Carl

I have ridden the Capitol several times in recent years, and one eastbound trip we were four hours late. (Stuck brake caused flat spots on one of those da** express cars.) Daylight out of Cleveland. You are absolutely right about the scenery. We did take the Cardinal round trip Chicago to White Sulphur Springs when it still had Superliner equipment. Late enough in the fall that the leaves were gone giving an even better view of the Gorge. Got to say that I now would only take the Capitol to DC. Faster, of course, but I really much prefer the Superliner equipment.

Reminds me that I plan to get into CUS on the afternoon of August 21 to see the rebuilt Empire Builder. Seating in the Sightseer Lounge is said to be greatly revised with cocktail tables placed in conversation seating groups and other changes. Sounds really cool.

CW and Mutt
Sorry to hear about Virginia Chessie. The long life doesn't make the departure any easier.

CW, sorry to hear about your cat. The longer they live, the harder it is to let them go when they pass on. When I was of the wee age of 1, I got a kitten, also 1. I had her for about 10 years, making her 11 when she died of liver disease, a terrible way to go.

Losing a cat is never easy...[:(]

Thanks all for the condolences, this kinda has been a hard day for us
as it is with everybody who thinks they own a pet. Three guesses to that one.
There will be a suitable grave marker on the model railroad. She really did
love the trains, and not typical cat, batting cars, etc. as they went by;just very
contented to be there, and around people she knew she could trust.

Joe: Thank You,I guess that will be the better way to go.

Mudchicken: That is a great name, will have to consider that after a long while.
If those people at the Newport News,Va. animal shelter knew what
she would turn out to be,well ,I wouldn't have adopted a cat,or was that the other
way around ? Should have been with me ;on the long trip from Va. to Ky.;with
overnight at White Sulpher Springs.(no not the resort)(I'm sure they would have
made HER feel welcome, but I didn't have THAT much money)

And just as a side note; anybody on the forums that has MOUSE as part of their name,
should breathe a sigh of relief, she was deadly !!!

Scott,

Congratulations on another star !!
Sorry I didn't notice sooner.

Pat,most firefighters dislike doing things like that anyway,(especially
on warmer days, with 40-60 pounds of extra equipment on their backs.)
especially since they do that for their job. Hope they catch
that susposed 'puppy' sometime soon, before something else
goes up in flames, that doesn't need too.

This should be post number 8000 to this thread--quite an achievement!

One reason that Pat and I don't have pets is that I would become too attached to them--especially the cats. Mutt and Cher, my heartfelt condolences.

Still 75 degrees here, at two o'clock in the morning. Sarah, if you're curious, it was impossible to fall asleep under these conditions, though I think I'll try again now. AMG

Everyone: thank you so much for your kind words. I read most of them last
night; just couldn't post anything last night. We both keep looking for her, like
she's hiding somewhere (she was very good at that). The other two cats, Ash-
ley and Sammy Joe, and the dog, Winter, also keep looking for her.

Mookie, thank you for making the quiche this morning.

I'm sitting here by the front door, watching for the people to come sign in for
the produce. No one yet. Usually have someone here at 7 a.m.

Lunch and supper tonight will be chicken & dumplings, one of the new
Banquet Crock Pot dinners. It's pretty good, but not quite like homemade.
