I finally re-trained myself yesterday--was at Elmhurst for about two hours, and had five apiece--freights and scoots. Today, the railroad gets to re-train me--back to work, after 18 days of vacation.

What part of Maryland are you headed to? I live in Washington County in the panhandle. And I live only 20 minutes away from the Brunswick CSX / MARC yard. I reccomend railfanning there, and if you get a chance, try Harper's Ferry in near by West Virginia.

Well, at 4:23 here, the current temp is 82, and we're supposed to reach 85
degrees for a high today.

I've been in the kitchen baking oatmeal cookies. In addition to the oatmeal,
I added 4 packs of the instant peaches & cream oatmeal to the cookies.
They taste very good!

Supper special tonight: beef stew and cornbread. Still have some cherry
pie, apple pie, and blackberry cobbler for dessert, along with the oatmeal
cookies.

Dinner sounds delicious. Happened into a fire station in Georgia once just in time for dinner (not intentionally, either) and got beef stew and corn bread - the bread baked in a cast iron skillet. Talk about a meal!

Headed south for the weekend - but only to the NY/PA border for a fire dep't field day. Lots of speidies!

Yes, Scot, I am part Cherokee: 1/16. I have the high cheekbones, and coal
black hair (minus the few white and gray strands). Most of the time, I don't
have the "Indian temper". Takes a lot to make me mad enough for that
temper to show up. My maternal grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee.

Oh cool. I'm not exactly sure how much I am, but I am thinking that it is less than 1/10th. You would never know I am part native America, because I have very pale skin, and I burn easily. The pale blonde hair doesn't show it either.

Well, thank you Lord that my power is back on. It went off at 6:16 Eastern Standard time, while I was on the Diner believe it or not getting ready to brag to eveyone that the rain was comming over here in Philly. Well let me tell you it sure did, so did the wind, lighting and the voice of God (thunder). There were many power outages in the area with in 10 mins of the first clap of thunder, I was one of them. Well of course it was blasing hot in my house it was soo hot that I couldn't go to sleep in the house I went outside and went to sleep in the lighting, thunder, and rain. It did feel good, and I saw some reverse lighting which was awsome. I also saw a beautiful sun set, which almost looked as if a twister was comming. This has got to be one of the best storms I've ever witnessed around here in Philly, becides the Blizzard of 1996.

quiet in here today without Mookie. But she deserves a whole Friday off, and
to make it a 3-day weekend. Tell your Mom Happy Birthday for us, okay?

Breakfast: turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, choice of hash browns or
fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, cantalope & watermelon slices, toast & jelly.

Lunch today: fish and fries, and cole slaw, hamburgers, cheeseburgers.

Will let you know later what the supper menu will be. (Have to figure that out,
myself).

Larry, you're so right about cornbread being better in an iron skillet. Wish I
had one. Cornbread just seems to taste better when it's made in an iron
skillet, doesn't it.

Thanks, modelcar. Glad to hear the weather has moderated. I am flying up to Indy next week and I've have enough of the miserable temperatures here in Florida -- so Indy should feel great. Any special rail programs up there in the next week or so?

Oh, and for my birthday, my lovely wife gave me (us) a trip on the American Orient Express in 2006. LA to El Paso, with stops at the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe. How could I NOT love a woman like that????

Tharmeni.....Rail traffic seems to be about normal through our Muncie area..{roughly 60 miles northeast of Indy}, now....maybe a bit heavy on the Frankton route coming in from the west...seems a bit heavy now on covered hoppers....They move a bunch of them through here. The Indy folks might comment on any special movements in that area....We have both NS and CSX going in various directions in and out of Muncie. Triple Crown does come thruogh here daily on NS from the north and heads south to the Florida area...On the weather, this morning, Friday...we have a beautiful sunny, mild calm day shaping up with the humidity just a touch higher than yeasterday.

Takes a bite out of what could have been a productive morning before work. However, I'll get about twelve more desperately-needed miles on the bike, and maybe some excitement along the tracks in Elmhurst.

Clear and lower 80s today, but up to 90 again by Monday--no rain in sight.
