Hello everyone. Finally made it back from Produce Detail. Had some good
produce today: standard issue of 5# bags potatoes, cantalope, squash,
and fresh CHERRIES. So guess what's for dessert tonight in the diner?
You guessed it: cherry pie w/ice cream!! Guess I'd better tell you all what
you're having for supper, right?! Grilled chicken breasts, brocolli, and lima
beans.

Finally got a chance to get back to the diner.

It was warm in the parts of Michigan where we were, too, but we had a few episodes of rain, and temperatures a little cooler than those found at Chicago (we could still get WBBM, even into the U.P.!). The day Chicago was sweltering at 102/104, we were in the onetime rail center of Shingleton, listening to in-laws complaining about temperatures a good 20 degrees cooler (don't get me wrong--they're great people, but far removed from civilization!).

As I alluded to when I left, I didn't see much in the way of trains on this trip. The only motion I caught was a WC freight in the U.P.--that was a surprise!

I haven't been out to rehab yet--must bike the six blocks to trackside; it'll probably take about fifteen minutes to make up for the six lost days!.

Ughh--speaking of that, in spite of having the bike along, I only got about 30 miles in--wife and mother both told me not to attempt the 60-mile trip I've done every year for the past 20. So I did about half of it--the more scenic half, along the former PM/C&O right-of-way. I think that's when Cher's dance kicked in--I got drenched on the off-trail part of this trip.

We had rain here yesterday, and a big threat (but no substance so far) today. The temperature right now (mid-afternoon, when it should be the hottest) has dropped about seven degrees below the high for the day.

OK, I'm back--I'll shut up now (closing my mouth around the straw of that tall, cold, Diet Dew!).

I was working on it, but it looks like it took both of us to break loose some of that cooler up north air.

Man, that was tough to take, and I can't enlarge it at all, either. It's a 1 sec. exposure augmented by a quick shot from the pop-up flash on the D60. Unfortunately, one of the two subjects couldn't hold still for 1 second. I'll give you one guess who that was! [:p]

Gave the A/C a rest today for the first time in about two weeks, and I'll be able to leave it off for a few days. We had our high temperature at about 7am right before the front went through. Hasn't been above 65 since. Will try to send cool air your way.

Woke up this morning and found two VERY large tree branches on the roof of the house, spent the better part of the morning cutting them up. At least we'll have firewood for winter.

Will take the special with a big piece of pie for dinner.

Yea the rain is really starting to get to me but anyway we really needed it but now that the grass is green again the rain can move to the south so the rest of you canget some much needed rain. To but yea any who the cherry pie was really good CW. So anyway hope everyone is enjoying some of the cooler weather that started to move in last night it felt really great for a change. Believe it or not, I'm pretty well cherried out from our Michigan trip. Not only are the Oceana cherries the best you can find, but we went through Traverse City, which proclaims itself the Cherry Capital of the world.

I was still down here earlier this afternoon when I could smell the rain hit. Since then (about four hours), it's been coming down at a steady 0.2" per hour. It could keep that up all night, as far as I'm concerned. The temp is now over 20 degrees down from what it was this noon. Tomorrow it will be going only into the 70s--I might make up for that bike trip I missed out on taking while in Michigan.

Oh--today's also the day that my baby and her new husband load up the wagon (okay, it's a truck), and drag themselves and their car off to California. MC, they're coming your way! (Your way, too, SJ, but they specifically plan on stopping in Denver).

What a difference a few days can make!!! Just called home from my road trip and my better half told me it is 66 there and has been raining steadily since about noon. Good news as we have been about ten inches below normal for a while now and can use a good and steady (but not a gulley washer type) rain.

it could possibly be around 4 a.m. edt, when the rain does reach us.

Carl: As long as they don't hit I-76 (dropping down from I-80) in late afternoon, they should do just fine on almost new concrete paving. Fort Morgan to Sterling usually get the big T-Storms out on the prairie this time of year that form after 4PM. Either way over the Continental Divide out of Denver (I-25 or I-70) is gonna be hard on the cooling system for the transmission on that towing P/U right now .

Good morning, everyone! Well, we're still waiting for the rain to get to us. Seems
it decided to slow down on it's way here. Small chance of a T-storm, they're saying
it should just be light rain, off & on, when it does get here.

Juice and coffee are ready.

Breakfast this morning: A special treat, as you will: oatmeal cherry crisp, along
with the usual turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, along with cantalope
and watermelon slices.

Well, it is/was 54 for a low here in the land of Nod....(we nod a lot). But the heat will be coming back - won't be in the 100's for the forseeable future, but into the 90's by the weekend. So all that fun will come to an end!

It is summer - it isn't icy and it's time for breakfast ! See how great life is?

...Jen, you said it all with "it is summer"....Oh how I hate the cold and winter. But today we got relief....66 now...{7:30}, and to go to a high of 72...!!! We won't know how to act. But as Jen noted, it's coming back...We too hav a forecast for above normal temps. to return after the weekend and stay for 10 to 15 days....Don't know how far above normal.
A strong system came though late last night and gave us some rain...Have my rain gauge out of service now as it is installed on top of my pitless well pipe adaptor and today is the scheduled day for a new submersable pump to be installed...I know we didn't get much heavy rain but again, just enough to keep things green...Yard is great now. Air still running to keep humidity out until it subsides. If it does.....

Shaping up to be a beautiful day here near Madison, my parents couldn't ask for better weather for the opening of Racine County Fair in Union Grove. Got down to 54 last night, going up to about 77 today, forecast is for near normal temps in the 80s for the next week.

Got a call fron Stoughton Trailer yesterday, looks like I'll be building trailers for them starting Monday.

Got out on yard detail this morning (branches, twigs, and a few weeds while the ground is still soft). We had just over an inch of rain yesterday evening.

MC, I'll warn them about both of the things you mentioned (they haven't gotten out yet--they had more to load than they realized, apparently--they stayed at our house last night).

Don't think I'll have time to make the bike trip I wanted to (still playing catch-up on freight car sightings), but will try for Elmhurst this afternoon/evening. Tomorrow, it's back to work.

I need to pet the kitty--which booth is she curled up under?
