Gee Carl, I sure hope Pat doesn't decide to visit the forums: otherwise, your
goose would be cooked!! [}:)] But: WHY would she be out on a "foggy Christmas
Eve" to start with?? Sorry, I just couldn't resist letting my evil side show today.[(-D][(-D]

It doesn't look too bad here yet--we may have gotten an inch or so, and the advisory is still saying 3-5 total. Have to get out to my meeting shortly, and expect to find the roads in worse shape when I leave there for home. I might get snowed in somewhere along the tracks [;)].

Thanks for the cider, Cher! Keep it simmering for my return!

SJ--I had to remind Pat to watch out for the reindeer. This year, she could get run over and qualify for the first time (though I have no idea whose house she'd be walking home from on Christmas Eve!).

Good luck, Randy. My son is an aspiring professional poker player- in fact, he's employed full-time by FullTiltPoker.com down in LA. If you want to read an entertaining blog, check out his at www.pokergeek.blogspot.com. He usually has some great stories about rubbing elbows with the champions down in LA and Vegas (he was up there over the weekend for a big WPBT event). One of his good friends currently is Wil Wheaton, who you may remember as the young ensign of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame. Wil is currently one of the PokerStars players.

Don't care what's for breakfast - as long as it's hot - weatherstation quit recording again last night (it does that when the temp dips below -22). Airport is showing -10 right now, up from a low of -18 around midnight.

Not a cloud in the sky, and snow on the ground, so sunglasses are the order of the day.

It's supposed to get more seasonable later in the week...

An inch here now and 1-3 more proposed by weather.com. Way it looks, anybody coming in for the holidays are going to have to shovel their way in.

I think I'll have a big breakfast and then go back to bed.

Good morning, everyone! Yeah, I know, I'm up early. Still half asleep,
though. Working on the first cup of coffee. Speaking of which, the
coffee is ready, hot chocolate/cocoa are ready, and I have some hot
cider for Mudchicken and Sarah and Carl. (And anyone else who
wishes to have some hot cider this morning.)

Breakfast this morning: hot oatmeal w/toast, sausage and sausage
gravy w/biscuits, country ham w/redeye gravy, scrambled eggs.

Lunch today: choice of beef vegetable soup, cream of brocolli soup,
and chicken noodle soup. And we'll have some grilled cheese
sandwiches.

Well, the snow machine is just starting up here, looks like we're going to get about 4-6 inches out of this one, places like Viroqua and Prarie du Chien are supposed to get a little more.

Mud(and snow)chicken, I assume the chain laws are in full effect on the mountain passes right now? I remember checking to make sure our western trucks had the required chains in the boxes.

I wish you could bring along the kitten, MC!

There is a tower at the other end, where the terminal manager and pulldown yardmaster reside. That tower even has an elevator (all we ever got was the [censored]...old joke). I'll be looking forward to a visit if/when you have time! We might even be dug out by then.

(Anticipating three to five inches of snow today [Wednesday]. Our Wisconsin brethren are in for a little more of it this time.)

CopcarSS: I think I resemble that remark[swg]....we officially quit working at Fraser just before turkeyday after burying the truck twice in 8 hours. We will go back out in Mud Season in April after the ski-bunnies go home. We have been working between MP 59 and MP 61.8 all year (Winter Park= MP 57at the tunnel and Fraser = MP 63 at the bottom of the hill, Fraser was a company town for a lumber company and once was a division point on DNWP)...It IS an icebox!

Over here at Carbondale (between Glenwood Springs and Aspen), we are looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow (a dusting for here) and we will head for home late tomorrow morning after trudging around in the white stuff for 3-4 hours. I-70 at Eisenhower Tunnel on the Continental Divide is partially closed due to blowing snow and crazy people driving too fast for conditions.

Brass plaque on the wall of one of the older brick buildings in downtown Carbondale: "At this site in 1897, nothing happened." [(-D]

Encountered Mr. Bull Elk and his harem of 20 does today near Cattle Creek. Quite a sight.

Carl: Word came down today that we will indeed be in your backyard, right after New Years. Has Mooks reserved her seat in your perch yet? Copcar & I could start a Denver-Chicago shuttle service at this rate! (shame they don't have a tower at the other end of the yard)[%-)]

That must be my keg of hot cider over their in the corner....

Leadville usually is right in the same frigid neighborhood as Fraser and Gunnison.

I'm not sure, but Fraser might not be an official reporting station anymore. Once upon a time, they had a good shot for coldest temp in the lower 48 every year, vying against the likes of Pellston and International Falls, MN. They even branded themselves as the "Icebox of America." Lately, though, the only mention of that I see on their website is in reference to the Town Newsletter. I can assure that it still gets cold up there, though.

Generally speaking, the coldest temp in the state has been going to Gunnison. If I remember from last year though, Alamosa might pop in with a really cold reading every once in awhile, too.

All I know that is if I'm headed for an overnight trip into a mountain valley such as those listed, I'm sure to wear enough down that I could be mistaken another Coloradoan here on the board! [:D]

BRISK!!!! That's [censored][censored][censored] COLD!!!

Your darn straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it ever. The temp over here in Philadelphia is about 20 degress but, we have a really strong wind chill so it feels like 8 degrees out. We are suposed to receive snow, rain, and sleet on Thursday. You can bet everything that I won't be driving in that!!! I will however be attempting to play some street ice hockey, if a certain road freezes over, if not then I'll just settle wth playing some ice hockey on Sunday. My coach (When i was playing for the Raiders) invited me to play in a scrimage (SP) on Sunday, so I'm going to go. Now I have to break out all of my hockey equipment.

Yes Carl you are right. Today was my last day of school until March of 2006, so I'm happy about that but, I have to start working full time in January. Fun.........[:-^]
Um.... I also don't think I did well on my exam on Planetary Gear Theory and Valve Body principals in an automatic transmission. That stuff is very confuseing and I still don't understand MOST of the material. I think I'll stick with manual transmissions, I seem to have no problem with them at all. PLAIN and SIMPLE...

I took the holidays off last year so this year I gotta hang around. It should be nice and peaceful, though, since a lot of other folks won't be here.

On another note, I'm getting my Christmas present from my daughter tomorrow, and I gotta drive two hours to get it. She's treating me to a James Taylor concert (Don't tell her I already know!), not to mention dinner. It's a "surprise," but it didn't take much research... I can like it. I was going to come in earlier, but was waylaid as I got into the door, and taken to do payday errands and some shopping. Successful with most of it; the checkbook is depleted.

We're just under a "snow advisory" for tomorrow, calling for "moderate snow at times", with three to five inches of accumulation likely. I have to go out to a meeting tomorrow, but will not have to actually work until Thursday.

It's above freezing, but raining and temp is dropping.

I am heading for home, but - for dinner - maybe a side dish of - watergate or mandarin orange salad and a tossed salad for those that like less sweet. Corn on the cob for a veggie and hot rolls.... drool.....

Mookie, porcupine meat balls sounds good! What shall we have with them?

After I finished with the Produce this morning (we had 78 customers this
morning!), got on the bus and went to Kroger to do some shopping.
They had a good deal on the big bags of Lays potato chips: 3 for $5, and
they had Planter's Nuts, 2 for $5, and the Red Baron Twin pizzas 2 for $6.
Also got us some more chicken, and a Betty Crocker Chicken Helper, the
chicken fried rice one.

We are currently at 37 degrees F. at 2:16. No wind blowing, so is comfortable
outside. But our forecast for late tomorrow through Thursday, is just about
the same as Quentin's up in Muncie. Guess we'll just have to see if the
predictions hold.

Afternoon everyone....

MC, you can keep the cold out there in CO, I've had enough smoker starts at work for a while, thank you very much!!

NWS in Milwaukee/Sullivan has had a winter storm watch out for our area since about 3 this morning for tomorrow, they're predicting 4-6 inches, with locally heavier amounts. At least they took the freezing rain/sleet out of the forcast. I'm thinking I'll have to stop at the fuel rack next to the diner and top the tank off on the way home from work tonite.

CW, the birthday cherry pie was delicious, cleaned up one pie and did dishes again last night when I got home from work last night.

Have a good day, and get out the plows!!

...Wow, some of you folk are reporting the real cold stuff....Cold that we here in Indiana are capable of in mostly January...but so far this season none of that. Coldest I've seen registered on my indoor / outdoor instrument has been 11 above....We've been below normal by far for over two weeks now but none of that zero and below stuff....
It can get that cold here, for sure....Back in 1994 when we were in Florida the temp reached 38 below here in our area....Glad we missed it. It seems we might be climbing out of our below normal stuff slowy here now...sure hope so. Have had a lot of low 20's for highs when the norm is still about 40....not too good.
