I used to own a CJ-7 back in my single days- drove it to Anchorage, Alaska and back in three weeks in 1978. I loved it when we had heavy snowstorms, I'd head out to friends' places and run up and down their unplowed roads.

I learned to 4 wheel in a old Willys jeep.
Slow, in low, and you can climb just about anything...down hill, let the engine and tranny do the work, brakes are a serious no-no...but the new age yuppies think they can drive like the TV shows...well, they can crash like the TV show too!

Off to the annual office X-mas party tonight - Two glasses of nog-grogg and it's lights out for old dirty field birds....Then 8AM on Saturday it's load up truck and head for the hills while the snow isn't flying for four days of "where did that monument go?" near Glenwood Canyon....Anyone taking bets that the weather gods sneak a small blizzard in this weekend?

Chris: Don't know where the grinder wandered off to, but saw a new lightrail car with the new paint job (yecch!) go south on Colorado Blvd. at I-25 at 2PM today...Test runs of the new toy train to start soon?

To h*** with the fish and fries, I'll take one of everything from the dessert platter!

Thanks for the comments on the lights, I think it's a classy look as well- not too overdone or gaudy. Alot of the neighbors are going with the all-white/icicle light look, but I don't like that. I think color is synonymous with Christmas.

EDIT: Boy, I wish I were as lucky at powerball as I am at starting new pages- I'd treat y'all to a Caribbean cruise!

Chris,
Haven’t had snow down here this year, not yet at least.
But did get some last year, along with the nice, ice covered overpasses and out in the boonies roads.
The Magnum is a lot heavier than you would expect, 4400 lbs off the lot, with an independently sprung rear end (think Mercedes E class sedan), throw in a really good Electronic Stability Package, and it handles a lot better than a station wagon should.

Turn the ESP off, and with the Hemi engine, you can swap front and read ends right quick, ice or no ice!

They have an All Wheel Drive version out now too.

Have a friend in your part of the world, drives a red AWD Magnum, he prefers it over his 4wd Dodge pick up in the snow and ice...holds the road and handles better, according to him.

I think you will see things like the ESP system on a lot of the new cars for 2006/2007...really a good system, if you get one of the drive wheels slipping, the system cuts the throttle, taps the brakes on the slipping wheel till traction comes back, then locks the differential up, picks a low, low tranny gear, and applies the power, all faster than you can imagine.

For those makers that caught the computer controlled boat, new cars are going to be a lot more hassle free and a lot more user friendly.
Those makers that didn’t, well, they will get left at the dock...

...Jay, no promises.....Indiana weather seems a changeable lot...As Dave would say. In our central In. area our avg. annual snowfall is about 27"....And....the NWS has issued a statement that the midwest would see warmer temps than normal through February so I don't know what all this cold stuff is about now....We're having highs in the low 20's and the norm for now would be about 40....

Anyone who missed the fish for lunch, will have another chance at supper.
We'll have more fried fish (and there will be baked fish also), along with
some mac & cheese added for supper.

Calling Houston Swamp rodent - raising smart kids! Take care of the wildlife!

We put out peanuts for the squirrels in winter, since our whole neighborhood feeds the birds. Now we have squirrels, crows, bluejays (they sound the alarm when the back door opens - kind of sounds like a dinner bell) and a big peanut bill!

If that's the way it is going to be, I changed my mind about moving to Indiana.

Palm Beach would work.

At 10:30 a.m., our thermometer is showing 14.7 degrees F. We are "supposed"
to reach a high of 31 deg. F. today. I'll be surprised if it makes it that high
today.

Lunch menu: fried fish w/fries, cole slaw and hushpuppies.

Three different cakes for lunch/supper today: chocolate, yellow and white
cake. The chocolate has chocolate icing; yellow has caramel icing, and
the white cake has white icing. And there is also a white cake with coconut
covered white icing. And if cake isn't your thing today, have an apple pie, and
a pecan pie baking in the oven.

We got a little less than our friends over the state wall just to the south of here, about 3 inches. Still in the deep freeze at about 10 degrees at this time, but the plan is for mid-20s by noon.
Planning a trip to Evanston this afternoon to hear a securities analyst talk about the financial situation of the big RR's, but road conditions may be a stopper.
Tomorrow is more important. Scheduled a rare train chasing day, camera at the ready to catch the Empire Builder making a detour around Milwaukee. Hopefully, one stop will be in Randy's home town of Burlington, WI.
Warning to Ed B. Watch out for snow sliding of those boxcars.
Stay warm

Tip Top of the Morning Everyone!

Brian- Dig the Red and White theme. Really classy! Thanks for sharing.

Ed, I know all too well about Texans (and Californians and Mexicans) not being able to drive in less than ideal conditions. It seems the migrant populace of Colorado is comprised mainly of those three groups. Couple this to the fact that many of them have MegaSUV's that can get started in slippery conditions (but not necessarily stop), and it can be a recipe for disaster. BTW, how does the Magnum do in the snow. I would imagine that you could throw some weight in the back, and it wouldn't be too bad.

Oh well, hope you all have a great day. We're supposed to be sunny and near 50 by Sunday, so I may head out and take some pictures. If I'm not around, I'll catch you all on Monday!

TTFN!

Don't mind the fluffy stuff - it just blows away. It's the slushy stuff we had on the roads this morning that's a pain. Plus, a lot of the plow drivers seem to have the idea that if school is delayed or closed, they don't have to plow...

At least we've already had our big "first snow of the season" so most people are now back into the winter driving mind set. That first snow is always a festival of cars in the ditch (and worse). You still have your occasional moron who insists he can still do 55-60, but he'll get pulled out of the ditch as soon as the tow truck gets there.

Big Q, was 32 here in Houston, 26 in College Station just to northwest of us, stayed that way for about 9 hours.
We warmed up to a whopping 33 around 7 this morning.
Wind chill drops the temp ten degrees, so it feels like 23 or so…

Squirrels have invaded the attic trying to keep warm, found a nest on the top of the central heating unit!
Got the evil eye from the kids as I moved it outside...so stuck it up in the rafters of my workshop...mom(or pop) squirrel was seriously POed, kept barking the entire time, got down right feisty for a while.
Little rascals had a good stash of pecans up there too, and are pretty good shots when they are mad!
Tough, they will just have to live with the sparrows and pigeons above the woodshop.

Should hit the mid 40s today; be in the 50s by tomorrow.

Stay away from Dallas and the Austin/Hill Country, they don’t drive all that hot on dry streets, cant drive at all on sleet or ice, looks like a bumper car festival in the Dallas area.

Had I known that work had a two hour weather delay this morning I'd have slept in. But I found out after I got to work, so will just have to do my relaxing here. Like some recreational surfing.

Not sure why the delay (although a lot of schools delayed, and some south of here actually closed), since the roads were merely lousy, not really bad. I've come to work through worse, for sure.

I'll take a bunch of donut holes with my mint tea. Since they're holes, there's no calories, right?

Good frozen morning, everyone! Sorry about sleeping in again this morning.
But the bed was just so toasty warm and comfortable: didn't want to
get up out of it.

Regular breakfast items are on the breakfast warmer bar, and we also
have doughnuts this morning. Glazed, jelly filled, chocolate covered,
cream filled, vanilla filled, etc. Even have some of the doughnut holes this
morning.

Jingle, jingle.....giggle, giggle.....chuckle, chuckle.

Neighbors will be history on 1/31.......HA HA HA....

Guess they have totally trashed the place but their lease runs through 1/31 (housing) so they will stay until then. We will suffer most likely, (noise) but I can live with it and will just keep sending the driver over to yell at them.

Brian - like the decorations!!! That's more like it. I love to go see everyone's decorations - and will do so just as soon as the evenings get above 15.

Jim - you southerners are only getting a small taste of the north. This is just to prove to you that you can survive in the cold, and don't need year round heat and humidity! And frozen lives much longer!

Hey Crowd [:I] [:o)] [;)]

It is 4:10 am and these are our current weather stats

Temperature: 20°F -7°C
Conditions: Fair
Winds: NW 7 MPH NW 11 KPH
Relative Humidity: 62%
Barometer: 30.52 Rising
Visibility: 7.00 Miles 11.27 Kilometers
Feels Like: 11°F n/a

So Q, Carl, Z, and all you north of me can take your cold weather back now. I have had enought. [B)] [8] [:0] We were actually a little warmer than Dallas for a while today. [:0] They said we were going to get 2 ot 4 inches but all we had in my local area was almost nothing. We had a little ice but it didn't stick to the roads just the cars. About a 20 minute drive north northwest of me they did get about 1 1/2 inches of snow. Some places in Arkansas got 3 inches. It is suspose to warm up now and be a little better. I am definately ready for that. [;)]

Well I am going back to bed now for another 2 hour nap. [;)]

Take Care. [8D]
