Raining pretty good here, but the forecast for the weekend is pretty good, which is a good thing, since I'll be outside with the firefighter class again all day Sunday.

Well, folks, it's 3:13 here now, and we're starting to get thunder. Haven't seen any
lightning, but the breeze is picking up, and no rain yet.

I too, have a doctor-imposed diet, and it is a result of having diabetes type II. Sooner or later I'm gonna have to get serious with my diet and go back to carefully monitoring my blood sugar levels. I kind of figure that the less cookie baking I do, the better off I am.

[C=:-)][C=:-)]MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE[C=:-)][C=:-)]

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

1 1/2 sticks of Crisco shortening*, melted
2 C. sugar
1/2 C. molasses
2 large eggs
4 C. flour
4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

* I always use the butter flavored shortening in my cookie recipes, it makes for a better cookie.

Form 1 inch balls out of dough and bake for precisely 10 minutes. You will get somewhere between three and four dozen cookies out of this recipe depending on how large you make each cookie. This recipe is so good that I can sit here and eat a dozen cookies in no time flat! My cookie jar right now is empty, now I need to fill it so I can raid it from time to time! [oX)]

...Sounds like lots of fellow dinner customers had a bunch of rain last night. Not here, just .3" and that was it. Sunshine today and mild temps but we're under a mod. to light chance of stormy stuff later today. I'm waiting for the yard to dry off so I might do another mowing....It is growing fast and pretty dark rich green.
Spent time on trail yesterday with wife and granddaughter.

CP - I am as round as I am tall, so can't order any cookies. My limit is as many as I can eat without throwing up. So we will just have to just visit w/o the food. Besides, you are practically a neighbor of mine!

Last fall I made an offer to bake and ship cookies to anyone participating in this forum as a creative way of generating some extra income for myself. At least one individual, Sarah Warner of Philadelphia took me up on my offer. I found that it is a great way to develop new friendships and share common interests. To date, I have had at least five lengthy conversations with Sarah over the phone since I first shipped a batch of chocolate chip cookies to her last fall.

My offer still stands. [C=:-)]

People: I am gone as usual for the weekend, but I need to keep the note to Dan from getting buried under all the other fine postings on our forum. So I invite all the diner people to add their thoughts, sentiments or just drivel to the posting to keep it up toward the top until we can find him.

The dogs are out looking - they will find him eventually and drag him back here!

Thanx

Hi All

I kinda like the old fashioned ice box sugar cookies. [:p] We always had a problems tho when mama made them. The amount of dough that went into the icebox was never equal to the amount of dough that came out (in the bowl anyway. [;)] [;)] [;)] .) Now where did all that missing dough go? [:o)] [:I] [:D]

Today is sunny and warm, about 72 and headed up to 82 by what the weather channel says. We have lots of rain clouds passing through. The humidity is pretty high also. [:(]

We have some heavy rain last night but it only lasted about an hour. It was fairly windy for a while.

They are already talking about the next hurricane season and it isn't even here yet. [:(!] [:(] [:(!]

Now about trains . . . at least one mainline is open where the truck and train decided to meet. Something odd about that wreck tho, one of the guys from work lives real close to where it happened. He said the driver of the truck lived just a stone's throw from the crossing where he was killed. So he definately knew there were 2 tracks and a second train could come at any time. Yet he still went around the lowered crossing gates and drove into the path of the train. And if that isn't stupid enough for you, his family will still probally win a hugh lawsuit. [:(!] [:(] [:(!]

Well for some people today is Friday but for me today is Tuesday. [B)] [8] [:(!]

Zach posted this link elsewhere but I thought I would share it here.

http://www.thedailycitizen.com/articles/2006/04/06/news/top_stories/top01.txt

That is an article about the train wreck.

Those cookies sound like the perfect dessert to top of the Friday Fish Fry in
the Diner!

The fish and the fries are being fried, and am saving some fi***o be grilled on the
Geo. Forman Champ grill that I have in the kitchen. Got plenty of cole slaw, and
have fixed some deviled eggs for lunch. Of course, with this being Friday, we'll be
having the same menu for supper tonight.

Good Morning from Sioux Falls, South Dakota!
We had a major thunderstorm come through our region earlier this morning and I must have slept right through it. I got out of bed this morning at 7:00, switched on my radio and learned that we had gotten 3 and a third inches of rain out of this storm. Other points north of here got more than that. We had high winds as well and the wind continues to blow at gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour as this is being written. I fly the American flag from the wooden railing of my cedar deck which is on the front of my house, and at some point during this most recent storm, the wind whipped my flag out and tossed it in my neighbor's yard, and ripped the mounting bracket right out of the wood! It's too cold and wet here, not a good day to be out watching trains. I might go to work in my kitchen and bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies this afternoon............and visitors are always welcome when I am baking cookies![C=:-)]

Good morning, all- looks like we escaped the heavy rain here during the night, it all went north of us and soaked the IA/MN border. I am breathing a sigh of relief, as I just put down some grass seed the other day and didn't want to see it rearranged to areas that didn't need it.

Joanie's operation went well, she should a good strong grip in her hand again in a few days.

Tree - I am laughing! Re: meetings - our boss used to have our meetings at 10:30 and run them right into lunch (anywhere from 12 to 12:30). He fixed the problem by rescheduling them at 10:00 and now runs them right up to noon!

My best friend (female) had meetings where everyone stood for the entire meeting. She said they lasted about 5-10 min max!

So elbow bends decently? Firefighter physical training?

An important (and frequently overlooked/ignored) thing about meetings is that they should always be scheduled so they have a wall to run up against - like lunch, opening (as in stores), or quitting time. Most bosses aren't going to pay overtime so they can hear themselves talk.

Not long ago my boss retired. Micromanager - meetings all the time. New boss came on - no meetings!

Wet feet!

Had some rain here last nite. Trees (real ones) did an exercise class. You know, bend way over and try to touch the ground. Then put your limbs up and shake them all around. Squirrels looked like small brown flags hanging out of the trees!

But it was no biggie. They said 60 mph winds - which is never a tornado, just a good wind around here. No damage that I saw other than a few lights out. Most of it north of us. Humidity was so bad, we went to summer sleepwear and a fan all night. Ah.....

I am off to look for a Mudchicken so he can 'splain to me more details about the bridge.
Talk slow MC - I write slow!

Good Friday morning, to everyone! Hope everyone is well this morning.

For breakfast this morning, we have muffins: blueberry, apple cinnamon, and
bran. There's also some strawberries and cantaloupe chunks.

Everyone have a good day, and if you're in the path of the rains today, try to stay
as dry as possible.
