OK - In honor of CW's Day we'll handle lunch - And it being summer-like here (and across a fair part of the country), we'll do a summer lunch - burgers and dogs (hot Italian sausage for the strong of stomach). Onions and peppers available (grilled, of course). Your choice of salads - potato, macaroni (with and without peas), coleslaw, three bean. Enjoy!

Up here the OFD and OPD work well together. All the staff of the FD is Firefighter and Paramedic. When PD is called the FD monitors and usually, unless it's obviously needed, rolls w/o lights & siren in the area 'just in case' for some calls. Others it's an automatic full response.

The only problem I have - when I watch COPS - (I have no social life) - the bigger cities send the police and sometimes a fire truck. Rarely does a medic show up until later. Here, they dispatch LFD and a medic unit at the same time along with the police. So many of those calls turn out that the medic unit wasn't needed ( our engines are all at least BLS and a lot of them are ALS, also.) I think I have that right - someone will correct me if not. Anyway - I would save some $ and not send the medic/ambulance until the firefighter/paramedics called for one.

But....

There are a lot of ways that gets handled. In some places where EMS is handled by a "third party" provider (typically a private company) the FD still runs a unit. When an ambulance gets there depends on how busy they are at the moment. Many of the FD units are BLS. Sometimes the ambulance beats the fire truck.

Phoenix, AZ often runs a paramedic engine or ladder truck out first, then rolls the transport unit if they are needed. Many of their ambulances are only staffed BLS - if ALS is needed on the transport the medic from the fire truck rides.

Many locales use "emergency medical dispatch" or EMD to screen the call and determine an appropriate level of response, and sometimes whether the patient will even be transported.

In my case, the FD runs BLS "first responder" ahead of the ambulance and begins patient assessment and treatment. We also serve as pathfinders for the ambulance sometimes.

There's no one answer. A lot depends on what the customers want for service...

Around here they send a fire truck with the EMS guys......not sure whether it's to help out or because they know all the soccer moms enjoy watching the firemen[:0]

Joe, thank you for grilling the burgers and brats for supper tonight. Think I'll
take one burger, please. Gee, wonder what kind of cake you're making!! Cho-
colate, perhaps?

Still feeling kind of blah this evening. Did manage to get out for a few, and
go with Mutt over to the tracks about 1 p.m.

I see that - no wonder they want to replace that engine - it is an old timer...

I'll have to check in with the LSJ every now and then to see how the scandal works out. I've bought new fire trucks before - late is nothing new.

I'll take a couple grilled cheese if you don't mind.

Sorry Brian and everyone else for lunch being. late. I've not felt too well this
morning, and went back to sleep (good ole sinus headache). Not feeling
too much better, though.

Lunch for today: tomato soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna salad
sandwiches, and BLTs. If you're really hungry, take a sandwich of each
with your bowl of tomato soup.

Our big night to go is on Saturday with the family. If we don't go there we go get Hoagies in Covington. I try to go once for lunch at work during the week.. The boys usually get child 3 ways. My wife usually gets a chicken wrap with extra chicken.

I always ask her why you go to a chili parlor if you're going to eat chicken. That's what we have the Colonel for in KY.

What's the station number? The new truck probably won't be in the picture, but the station will, and the truck the new one replaced...
Station 8 and it was in the Lincoln Journal Star paper this morning. Big picture - in fact two of them. I didn't check the website of LJS, but if you look at the picture taken from behind the new engine (with a nice firefighter in the middle of it, the trees in the background are hiding our duplex! Morning All

Chad

I am looking into the future and while there will check out the new bed. [:D] [:o)] [:D]

Well I think MC has sent me his weather WITH rain. It is raining pretty good right now. Poor Duchess, spoiled as she is, doesn't like to walk in the rain. [B)]
And this is my Monday, and it is raining, and I am down. (Think of song by Carpenders [;)] )

I just checked the state's dobler radar. Our forecast was for 60% chance. I would hate to see what a 100% chance looked like. Awww now I see how they do it, well over 60% of the state is getting rain. So when they say 60% chance then 60% of the state will get rain while the other 40% is high and dry. [;)] Right? [:D]

Looking at the national radar it looks like 844 may be in some rain too. [:(] I hate that for those trying to see it. [V] I rode behind the 3985 once in a dome car and in the afternoon it started to rain, not heavy but still rain.

Well, Everyone Take Care

Man, I'm slipping. It's Derby week! Steamboat races, big parties and the "Run for the Roses". I'd actually take a day off from railroads and stuff to go to Churchill Downs on Saturday, but Mutt is right about the crowds and the traffic. And if you didn't reserve hotel rooms, the nearest vacancies might be 200 miles out of town.

Been there a couple of times, so I guess coverage on TV will work.
