Real mixed bag of weather here - left the house in sunshine, with black clouds looming off to the west. But we didn't get any measurable rain. Partly cloudy most all day at the railroad, until it came time to swap ends of the train the second time, at which time it poured. Were it not for the Class 3 brake test, everyone could have stayed inside (the hogger passed through the F7 carbody and the train, only having to be outside when he went from the last (now first) passenger car to the Geep). The trainman (and that wasn't me) had to be on the ground for the test. Fortunately it let up...

Another fine day on the railroad. The conductor asked me to do the narration today. No biggie - I've done radio and TV, but she didn't know that... Until I mentioned how "unaccustomed I am to public speaking." Not. It went well. We're still working on moving the narration from memory and experience (still good things to have) to a "coach book" filled with handy tidbits to relate to the passengers.

Paula....Seems we escaped any rain and even rough weather today. They were reporting sighting a tornado over by Lafayette. A bit north west of here as the weather was moving mostly north. So nice it was and still is....Window is open in office here and a nice fresh smell permeates the air....Train horns can be heard in the distance as I write...The nearest track is over a mile away. Sound seems to travel well this evening...

Quentin, I can't argue with you about the beautiful day and comfortable humidity level!!

Got some more burgers, brats, hot dogs, etc. going on the grill for tonight's supper.
Looks like appearances have picked up here in the Diner today. That please this
cook!! I've even made up more potato salad, and the other side dishes for today.

So, if any of you who have to work late shift tonight, want to take some with you to
work, go for it.

....And here in central Indiana we have a beautiful day under way....It's about mid 80's but the windows are open and it's very comfortable. Comfortable humidity. That makes a difference from this past week.

Still a little beat from a day and a half of chasing/riding mainline steam. I've just started the process of editing and selecting the 8-10 halfway good shots from the 140 or so on the "work bench". I'll post a few of the best along with a comment or two, and provide a link to a few more that I would allow to be released for public viewing. Later today or tomorrow.

Good afternoon from Iowa- looks like a beautiful day so far, although they're predicting a chance for severe weather later. I'm putting the finishing touches to one major project (laundry/storage room re-do), and can finally relax a bit before launching into another. I might even steal away to the UP transcon for an hour or two. I still need to check out your pictures, Chris, so hopefully I'll get to that today as well. I'm like you, tree- people shots are not my forte. In fact, as you all may well know, they tend to get me in trouble. I wish I had the kind of scenery around here that Chris enjoys, though.

Yawn, good morning all...a cloudy, dizzle kind of day here in Aurora, IL...yesterday was sunny and in the 70's so I spent the day power washing our wood fence (a once every three years deal), so no railfanning yesterday but hope to get out for a few hours this afternoon to watch the four Amtraks come through town (not to mention the freights and Metras). Breakfast this morning was fresh coffee (thanks honey for making it while I slept), along with pumkin bread (yummy) and a bran muffin for what might ail you all.

Good Sunday morning, everyone! Looks like the weather here today, is going to be
identical to yesterday. High about 85, and pleasant.

Coffee is on and fresh juice is made.

Breakfast this morning: you can have your pick of doughnuts, or you can have cold
pizza from last night. Looks like the only one in here, after I made the pizzas, was Tree.

Sunday Dinner/Supper today: we'll fire up the grill, and have burgers, brats, Italian
sausage, hot dogs, corn on the cob. Sorry, no steaks today.

Side dishes will be: pork n beans, potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad, and potato
chips.

Chris - let me add my kudos as well. I'm a fan of "nature" shots - I just do better with them than "people" shots.

Fairly busy on the railroad today - 99 passengers between the two runs. Due to some switch maintenance which prevented our usual runaround mode of operation, we ran "pull-pull," with an F7A pulling the outbound trip, and the GP9 pulling the return trip. Since the Geep is set up for long-hood-forward, moi got/had to ride in the cab as the eyes on the left side. Fortunately almost all of the crossings are essentially hiking trail crossings, and no hikers were to be seen today. The one true road crossing I had to flag anyhow (which is how we always handle that one).

Long drive back - pizza hit the spot...

Okay, everyone, the pizzas are just about ready to come out of the oven. The
pizzas being served tonight are:

1. pepperoni/mushroom w/extra cheese
2. supreme
3. sausage/pepperoni
4. goetta
5. double cheese pizza ( for Sarah & anyone else who wants double cheese)

Mutt and I are getting ready to head to the tracks, on this cooler, less humid, &

Not a lot to talk about today. Still pretty hot but not as bad as a few days ago and there is no rain in sight either.

The Chinese steam engines made to into Kansas yesterday. My trace people are all MIA today so I am not sure where they are now. I am sure when they get to Kansas City, we will hear something from someone. [;)]

I've been awake since 6:30, but just couldn't seem to get in here before now.

Well, our high today is only supposed to be 84, with lower humidity. Let's hope
so. We need to get the grass/weed trimmer out, and cut the yard.

Cannonball, I second your thank you to Jim for keeping us all posted on the
steamers' progress.

Are there any special requests for a particular pizza tonight? Please let me know,
by about 2 p.m. EDT, so I can get everything I will need.

HI everyone how is everyone tonight well my day was going fine until about 1hr ago. I had the chance of a life time to see the 261 go by at full steam but they had to wait for the wonderful mayor of milwaukee to get down to the station so that. Delayed the train by 10 minutes and of course my luck then really went down the hill when the train was coming around the bend the feight train had just started to cross going the other way and of course it had to be a long train. But on the happy side it will be coming back though at about 8:30 tonight. So maybe I can get back down there and get to see it again which would make me very happy.

Clovis, NM. Back in 1979. Visited my brother who lived there at the time. He had been
stationed at Cannon AFB, was out of the Air Force at that time. Only time I've gone two
weeks without any sinus problems.

Supper tonight: just got through deep frying more fish and hushpuppies, and made
some more slaw and fries. And if anyone doesn't want more fish for supper, I've got
beef pasta on the menu, also.
