Wow....That's really a look back.

Cannonball.....For sure, the windmills are gaining in many areas and will continue to so. As for solar....Way back in the early 80's, we purchased some stock in solar....{a Colorado co.}, but we were just a few decades too soon on that, perhaps now might be a better time....long term.
good morning
Ray thanks for breakfast.Going to do some chores and then look for some trains this afternoon.Weatherguessers say high of 67 today with a chance of sprinkles!!.Will return for pizza tonight.

Good Morning! It looks like I'm the first one in here this morning, and I've got the coffee brewing. Fresh orange juice has been made, there is a pan of cinnamon rolls sitting on the counter - fresh out of the oven. I have also laid out a generous assortment of donuts, rolls and bear claws.
Walter Cronkite will be missed by a lot of people, certainly at least those who are my age and older, and my Dad who had spent some 55 years in the radio & television broadcasting industry, knew a lot of veteran news broadcasters.
We have 50 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and our projected high is to be 74. Nice! It feels more like mid-September here. Have a good day, folks!

Larry; good looking rig ya' got there.

Y6bs evergreen in my mind
Lowell Thomas was a rather imposing and imperious newscaster. When I was a DeeJay in the 60s, he still had a newscast on CBS radio. I remember when he was the subject of This is Your Life, one visitor was brought to him and Thomas said on live TV that the guy was Drunk. The guy replied "Not drunk enough" and walked off.... Those old timers were something else!
Deggesty I do not recall that he showed his antipathy towards our involvement in Viet Nam; I became aware of it only after he had retired. How many of you remember Lowell Thomas? Johnny

Johnny
I remember Lowell Thomas...He did the CBS World News Roundup on the radio. I also remember Douglas Edwards (who was the CBS anchor before Mr. Cronkite), and I also remember Robert Trout.
I am a big fan of old network radio news programs.
Anyone here remember NBC Monitor???
http://www.monitorbeacon.net/
Hellooooo, bet you all didn't even miss me! But, it's good to be back online. (I really missed 'seeing' all of you.
Larry, your new truck is really lookin' good!! And like Mutt said, you're welcome down here in Louisville, any time!!
Mookie, glad you did get my message! And thank you for passing along the word.
So very sorry to hear about Walter Cronkite. He will be missed, and there will never be anyone like him to report the news. And, whomever asked about Lowell Thomas, yes, I do remember him, a little bit. But, I guess Mr. Cronkite is right up there with Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, and the other good newscasters, discussing all the news.
At 10:42 p.m., I think it's a little late to be frying fish, and fixing everything else. Guess I'll just start fresh in the morning (unless one of you beat me in here in the morning.
Everyone have a good evening, and those of us who are experiencing this nice cool weather, make sure you have a nice warm blanket on the bed tonight! Take care, you all, and see you tomorrow.
Walter Cronkite, a great american, a fair and balanced newscaster who never let his personal beliefs show through, a ham radio operator. We shall not see the likes of him again, and that's the way it is, July 17, 2009
I'll just have to kick off the trip from my son's home in MD....
There's certainly no shortage of places and people to visit, although I probably ought to fit AZ in - Mom's there. Denver area would kill several birds with one stone, including one of my sisters....
Off to the railroad for the weekend. Kind of a vacation from working on the truck. Got some stuff done tonight, and I can run some wires, but biggest project has to wait for a part due in Tuesday.

Just heard on the news that Walter Cronkite died this evening...age 92.
I think everyone who is old enough can remember watching Mr. Cronkite at one point or another.
Very sad loss.
Tree - pack for 6 months and drive down the east coast and then pretend you are mowing your yard - up and down, up and down. That way you won't miss anyone in your fan club!

If Larry is gonna come within a few hundred miles of where I live, he would be most certainly welcome to come to Sioux Falls. I would not mind having lunch or dinner with him if I possibly could. I often think it would be nice if I could meet a few other participants of this forum who live fairly close to me, such as Mookie and Brian.
Those of us who live up here in South Dakota are also enjoying the cooler temperatures and much lower humidity. I walked to work this morning and then home again this afternoon without breaking much of a sweat, and anytime I am not having to run my central air conditioning system, I'm happy. I wonder how much it will last though, probably not very long.
I hope the rest of you out there will all have a great weekend!!
Ray ooo ooo ooOOOOOo
Well, we're back up, not totally sure what the problem was, but after the repair person replaced the telephone junction box on the outside of the house, things seem to be working as normal as possible.
Joe, after CW and Sarah get back from several errands, she might fix you some supper.
(I'm going to take a wild guess, but since this is Fri., I'm guessing Fri. Fish Fry!)
Larry, on your way where ever, you could route your trip through Ky!
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
blhanelLarry, as long as everyone else is soliciting a visit from you, don't forget to take a slight detour north to CR on your way to NE.
Dan
MookieAnd I wonder what Iowa has that Nebraska doesn't. Besides Brian, that is. I just don't think he has that much control over the weather.
Now there's an understatement.
I'm regretting not wearing my jacket to work this morning- currently 63 degrees under cloudy skies. Brrrr!

Yes, the cooler weather has been reaching across here too.....Quite a few days this Summer, we've been on the south side of normal.
Actually, this day started {earlier}, with 70 degrees....Normally, that would indicate we'd get up to the 90 range, but not now....Weather people are saying we'll reach about 74 today...and that's ok with me...I don't need to be concerned how warm the swimming pools get to day...Actually, enjoy the lower humidity and temps this Summer we're finding at times.
Jen, many years ago we traveled thru Lincoln with a test fleet of autos....but you probably were still in a school of higher learning at that time....not in the work force yet. So I too have been in the fair city of Lincoln {well on the edge of it...I-80}, as we passed by....
Here....have my new office / computer chair assembled and in action but still must do the removal of the printer and scanner to install the new one to do the work of those two. No schedule to meet....at my own luxury of time.
Sun is breaking thru now.....believe I better do a mowing today too. Not growed much but needs trimmed smooth....Still hardly any rain here...!
Willy - usually if those storms come up, they inundate north of Lincoln and pretty much avoid us. I am surprised they missed you, too. And I wonder what Iowa has that Nebraska doesn't. Besides Brian, that is. I just don't think he has that much control over the weather.
Mookie Tree - my heart beat a little faster to hear you might be traveling in a few years. I may get to meet another forum member! Maybe you can drag Joe & Co along with you? I retired and haven't traveled anywhere except the grocery store.

Make sure to visit Omaha too, Tree!
Mookie - The storms yesterday dissipated right before they got to Omaha. We only measured 0.37" of rain.
Willy
Wow - 56 here this morning! Here in the heart of heat country in the summer! Lovin' it!
Supposed to have cooler temps until first of next week, so enjoy all. Shoving it all east!
last night we had a good rain through NW ohio.weather guessers say high of 70 tommorow thats it! Going to take a nap.We have a new neighbor and they might need help taking stuff inside.yay its friday!!! breakfast and drinks are all set.
joe
DeggestyYes, it does look spiffy now. When will you bring it out to the Crossroads of the West?
Sir Chicken - that was so fun! I totally got lost in it. Will go back and visit frequently. Thank you!
