tree68If I did any off-road (hunting, etc) or had a plow on the truck (no need), I'd go with 4WD. For now, no need for the expense.
My father made the same arguments against me getting a 4wd truck when in college and living at home (but working near FT). That winter (after purchase) he got stuck in a drift at the end of the road one morning while on the way to work. Plows hadn't come through and we were to get ~14" anyway. Dad's 2wd Dakota was going nowhere fast. He trudged back through the snow and asked if I could help him get to work, very sheepishly. After pulling the transfer case into 4HI I drove him right to work, no problems. He was actually amazed at the traction (and my truck at the time wasn't anything special-Chev T-10) and apologized! I've heard him do that exactly 3 times in my 29 years and that was one of 'em.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Nice, comfortable, sunny conditions here in Louisville this morning. But, that's due to change late morning, early afternoon, as thundershowers/storms roll into the area.
Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas, milk (regular & chocolate), Gatorade, and hot water for hot tea are ready.
Have a special Wednesday breakfast ready for everyone this morning: turkey bacon, sausage and buttermilk pancakes with your choice of these syrups: maple, blueberry, or maybe you'd like a 'strawberry shortcake' pancake, or whatever you'd like on your pancakes.
Mookie, your coffee cup/mug is ready, and, when I see you coming through the door, I'll pour the coffee into it.
Also today, you fine folks get to pick what you'd like to have on our lunch and supper menu(s). So, let me know what you'd like to have today!!
You all have a great morning and take care.
Modelcar Any problem with it for next several dozen months, will be someone else's problem. But did think you would be looking for a 4-wheel drive for your sometimes nasty climate....
I bought the extended warranty - if I ever have a problem, it's someone else's problem.
The largest portion of my driving is on regular roads which have been suitably cleared. I've encountered a few situations where 4WD would have been handy, but on the other hand, I pulled a 4WD out of a ditch one day with a 2WD PU (in his defense, he'd gotten hung in a situation with two diagonal wheels off the ground - he couldn't move).
If I did any off-road (hunting, etc) or had a plow on the truck (no need), I'd go with 4WD. For now, no need for the expense.

tree68 Got an all-in-one for the fire department (dispatch faxes us the call information on dispatch and when we get home again) so it could also do copies and eventually be a printer for the computer we're working on getting on-line there. Biggest problem so far has been humidity and the paper. It's jammed once or twice. Probably doesn't help that it's right in the station, not in a separate room. We made it to Niagara Falls six years ago, and spent one night near the falls themselves, and took a ride on one of the Maid of the Mist boats. It was quite an adventure.

Afternoon everyone.....
Added to my model locomotive roster the last few days, just picked up WC 6652 this afternoon, and bought two Atlas SD24s, which I will have to paint up as WC 2401 and 2402, not sure if I will paint them as they appeared or give them a repaint into WC maroon and gold yet. Now I just need to get around to building a layout to run all this on.....
Home today, have doctor appointment tomorrow, just a checkup and some blood work. Going to parents tonite for dinner, so will see everyone later.

Hello and good afternoon, everyone. It's been a heck of a day for me. I overslept this morning, so had to get into fast gear to get ready for Tuesday Produce, eat breakfast, feed the cat and dog, and get my coffee and morning meds.
Tuesday Produce wasn't too bad, even though the truck didn't show up until 10:10. We got potatoes, sliced carrots, cole slaw, tomatoes, eggplant, and watermelons. We also had 70 + people.
I have our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta on the warmer bar: tacos, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas, Spanish rice, etc.
Now, I guess I'll get back to the laundry. Almost finished with it for the day. Everyone have a great evening, and take care.
afternoon
well we had a surprise.saw an old friend and they are going up to michigan as well next weekend.mamma says supper is ready.after supper need to send a card to western pennsylvania for saturday.a certain ns employee has a birthday and her boys would defineately help her eat the cake.
My folks always swore I was adopted because I could eat lima beans and asparagus without issue.
We had several 'condiment' rules growing up that I tend to follow to this day:-"Red" stuff goes on brown meat,-"Yellow" or "White" stuff goes on white meat.-S & P are standard affectations, specific requests to omit them are required if desired. My wife is positively in love with Lawry's Seasoning Salt. She'd put it on her ice cream if I didn't stop her!
Deggestyis that Ricki also likes to read while eating
Maybe it's because I live alone, but part of setting the table for a meal any more includes suitable reading material. The dog is a lousy conversationalist - all he wants is whatever is on my plate, and he can't hear me anyhow...
If I'm with someone, I generally won't read, although I can see it with a long-term relationship within one's home because, let's face it, sometimes there's just nothing to talk about. I probably wouldn't do so with a dining partner at a restaurant, although I routinely bring along reading material when I eat out by myself. I've been known to stop somewhere and acquire something to read if I'm including a meal with my errands.
I grew up with Miracle Whip - it's all Mom ever used for salads and the like. I can tell the difference, but really don't care any more.
mudchicken(heaven-forbid we bring the awful pseudo-mayo MiracleWhip into the discussion)
You mean Miserable Whip? Not long after we married, I learned that Ricki prefers it to mayonnaise. Our marriage has survived, even without TV Ears. One thing I learned, two days after we married, is that Ricki also likes to read while eating (One morning, when I spent two months with my brother and his family in Baton Rouge the summer before my last year in high school, my sister-in-law took the cereal box I was reading out of my hand). We had gone down to San Jose from San Francisco (by train, of course) and went into a restaurant to eat lunch. On the way in, I picked up a copy of the San Jose Mercury, and, after we sat down, asked if it was all right if I read the paper. Ricki asked for some it so she, too, could read while waiting for our food and while eating. I tell you, when you never had a date with your spouse before marrying, you have lots to learn after.
CNW 6000Those HP All-In-One Print/Scan/Copy/Fax/whatever machines can be pretty convenient...until something breaks. Then you're out of luck.
Yes, especially if it was obsolete when you bought it at a reduced price. That was my experience with the first one I bought. I replaced it with a later model, which has given me good service since. One feature saves postage when written/printed information is needed elsewhere--the cost to fax a sheet or two is less than first-class postage.
miniwyo Sorry I have been kinda scarce around the ol' diner, things have been busy around here. We close on our house on the 24th, we are just finishing up our wedding invitations and other wedding plans. And to top off this great summer, last week the City Council appointed me to the Community Fine Arts Board and I got offered the job I applied for with Questar Gas! Things are really panning out.

Do be careful as to how you rank things, though (To top it off I have seen....)
Do you have a rail trip planned for your honeymoon? Thirty-seven years ago today, Ricki and I started a trip which took us by rail from Ogden to Salt Lake City by way of Oakland and Denver (bus from Boise, where were married that morning, to Ogden, and bus back to Boise from Salt Lake City), with a side trip from San Francisco to San Jose (to eat lunch) and back. Then, it was a six day trip for the five of us (Ricki’s three children made it five) with a U-Haul (we have had our adventure in moving) from Boise to Reform, Alabama, where I was living. It did cost a lot less to travel by rail, even first class, back then. While in San Francisco, we discovered why Mark Twain commented that the coldest winter he ever spent was July in San Francisco. It was much warmer in San Jose.
Again, congratulations on the way things are going in your life.
Understand what you are saying....Have been watching these machines for some time now so they now do have several years being on the market....I'm refering to various models and brands.
And had a good rapport with the sales person and we talked about the selection....I asked for her suggestion, and she led us to this one as she has one for her personal use at home. so we talked about that, etc....and we made our selection forward of that....My decision is to perchase a 2 year warranty with it too.
It will replace a HP deskjet 940c and of couse our scanner.
By the way, the 940c does still work...but the ink cartridges are really salty in price....Seems more so each year.
Quentin:Those HP All-In-One Print/Scan/Copy/Fax/whatever machines can be pretty convenient...until something breaks. Then you're out of luck. I warn that because of the years I worked at OfficeMax and sold them. That was one item I usually advised people to get the warranty for because of the complexity of mechanism and chances of failure. I hope yours works well for you though.
RJ:Send some of them heritage units this way...maybe CN will let them ply the rails for a little!
......Another very nice morning.....but a bit cool for July, 14th...59 degrees earlier this morning. But beautiful sunshine and low humidity....{in Indiana, in mid Summer...!}.....It's some kind of record, but didn't hear how far the figure refers back to....
Staples have some great bargins going right now..until tomorrow....and from that, a new office / computer chair will arrive via one of the carriers today and new plastic mat for it to set on {protects carpet}. Current chair has served since '96. Today, we're going back and probably will come back with a HP {do all}, that is, a printer, copier and scanner to replace our present separate printer and scanner...Great sale on that item too...Good thru tomorrow. So guess one has to act when the sales get reasonably good. The above items have been on a replacement list anyway. Really nice chair...sat so comfortable at the store....!
RJ glad you could see those units.I try to convince carl for them to sneak over to NW ohio but they usually stay on up.breakfast is readfy to go.time for a nap then its off to town for errands.
Mookie Now I've got to figure out how to re-install all of the electronical stuff from the old truck into the new one.... (uh-oh....911?)

Not much different than moving into an new abode and trying to figure out where to put everything 'cause all the rooms and closets are different....
Not the first vehicle I've wired. I'm missing a component or two right now, too...
Evening all!
Hope everyone is doing well and had a great 4th of July!
To top it off, I have seen 5 of the 6 heritage units in the past month. The Rio Grande was leading a stack train east about 3 weeks ago, The MoPac was leading one east last week, and just this evening as I headed home I saw the Katy, the SP and the WP units leading a Stack Train west with a pair of mid train GEVO helpers.

mudchickenIf you were commenting on Lima Beans I'd understand
Got a good, early start this morning to go trade the old truck for a new one. Finished that up by 11 and didn't need to get on the road home right away, so I motored the new truck over to Niagara Falls. Still impressive.
Home now. Now I've got to figure out how to re-install all of the electronical stiff from the old truck into the new one....
MC - wrong Mooks. I like mayo and MW both.
Driver eats mayo on asparagus, but why waste the mayo....
Will eat most veggies naked or with butter, except aforementioned gag and squash. Even eat MC's maters w/o salt - just plain. But unless homegrown, they are plastic.
Ok, right on Walt.....Good photos. Looks like an interesting area....Walking / riding path as well. Interesting lift bridge too...Thanks.
Deggesty Tom, Mookie, Walt, have you tried putting mayonnaise on asparagus? It works wonders (Mudchicken, it can help on lima beans, too). I doubt that any of you went out back and cut fresh wild asparagus (making sure that it is not too old and thus is tough). You may keep your English peas; they are beyond redemption. Johnny

I know Mudchicken (and a few others) will choke on this, but; due to a serious allergy to raw eggs by my sister, we Never had Mayo around the house, only the M-W. Still don't like asparagus, and probably never will whatever it's smothered in! Lima bean, brussel sprouts and brocilli are fine, Love them.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Quentin, et al; here are several pictures from yesterday;
We were in the process of parking the Jeep when two "light" L & I engines were coming across the bridge, after we had gotten the bikes out and were about ready to take off, here come those engines around through the floodwall on the NS (K & I T) connection track to what's left of Panama Yard. They were picking up a cut of covered hoppers and coil cars to go back over to Jeffersonville, In.
These are two of the L & I's GP-11s.
Clagg Tower, Bike/Walking Path is the opening
The engines had apparently run around the train so the conductor didn't have to ride the first car if they shoved across the bridge. Train was about 25-30 cars.
-Just got our first 'mater off the vine this weekend. Lack of heat up here has really slowed down their growth severely on the dozen or so plants here. (as opposed to a hemp plant from a previous owner of the house that won't die in the window well)
Hmm, looks like we've been a little bit busy in here this morning. That's always a good sign.
Our menu for the rest of the day, along with all the good talk:
1. Leftover lasagna from yesterday, along with garlic bread and tossed garden salad
2. Country fried steak w/your choice of home fries or mashed potatoes w/gravy, green beans, homemade buttermilk biscuits or fresh-from-the-oven cornbread, and, of course, tossed garden salad
And, we still haven't seen hide nor hair of said work crew for the gutter problem. Knowing that guy, they'll probably show up around 5:30. That seems to be his 'normal' time to show up here to do any of the work. This person, I'm definitely NOT recommending him to anyone for any work to be done on/around their home!
