Everyone catch the "skirmish" on Morning Joe?  Mischief

....That was a pretty good back and forth with Chris and Joe......

PS:  Chock up Mole number 4 for this week....Got the last one about an hour ago...Actually it was over the line and on the golf course but started under my evergreen tree.  I'm puzzled at such aggressiveness and supply of them...currently.  Not seen by me here in 38 years.

The heat is on....can stay out only a short time.  Humidity to go with it.

Last year the fireworks on Saturday night were followed by a downpour.

Interesting. It was observed that after all the big battles of the Civil War, there was a huge downpour. It was theorized that the large amount of black powder used brought it about. A massive fireworks display could do likewise.

It is interesting. I have read quite a bit about the Army of Northern Virginia's battles (my paternal grandfather was in the 40th Virginia Infantry), but I do not recall much about downpours after the battles. I just re-read a little of Dabney's Life and Campaigns of Lieut.-Gen. Thomas J. Jackson, and found mention  of a storm the night after the third day of the Second Battle of Manassas (the losers called the battle by the name of a creek). I have a vague memory, from reading another book, that there was much rain after the battle at Sharpsburg, Md.

Perhaps the idea that the fine particles of powder in the air giving rise to precipitation sparked the practice of shooting fine particles into the air to bring snow down?

We are beginning to have late spring weather now; the furnace has not run since Sunday morning, and we expect only one day with rain (Friday) in the next week.

Looks like we may see some of that weather here in NY tomorrow.  The weather guessers have us down for isolated t-storms on Sunday.  Hope they're way off - need blue skies and moderate temperatures so we can finish up the air show on a good note.  Last year the fireworks on Saturday night were followed by a downpour.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Brian, I for one, am glad that you all did not get hammered with winds, hale, and a whole bunch of rain.  You're more important to us all around here.

Willy, it's good to know that you had the smarts to pull over in that deluge.  Way to go!

Our temp got up into the mid 90s yesterday.  I personally did not pay attention to the heat index:  figured that would just make me hotter, to know what it really felt like outside.

Coffee, juices, iced teas, hot water for hot tea, Gatorade, and lemonade are ready for this morning.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, bagels and bear claws.  Or, you can have cold cereal and toast.

Our current temp this morning, at 6:22, is 75 degrees, going for a high of 93 today.  yuck!

Mookie, I've got your coffee mug ready, and I'll pour and meet you out in the garden.  I've already got our rockers out there!

Brian - I don't know if you're disappointed that the storm fell apart, but at least you didn't have to deal with any bad wind or hail.

Yes, disappointed.  I thought for sure this one was going to wreak havoc.  I had a maximum wind gust on my weather station of 26.6 MPH recorded on April 26- it still stands.Disapprove

Well, my weather station recorded a maximum temperature this afternoon of 101.8 degrees. And then the storms hit. When I left the house for work, there was just a nice summer thunderstorm in progress. Of course, as soon as I hit the road, the thing collapsed on itself and there was a downburst. I finally had to pull over in a parking lot since I couldn't see where I was going, it was hailing, and small trees were blowing over in the wind. We got 1.40" of rain in about half an hour. What an evening.

Brian - I don't know if you're disappointed that the storm fell apart, but at least you didn't have to deal with any bad wind or hail.

My browser comes up with the local radar (Intellicast).  I noticed in the "radar summary" thumbnail that things looked "interesting" out on the plains, so I looked, and they are.  I saw one indicated "TVS" (Tornado Vortex Signature) in western NE, a couple of "Meso" signatures indicated in CO and eastern IA, and some cloud tops ranging up into the 55,000 and 60,000 foot range.  That's some serious storms.

We got to 29C today and now we're at 26C with the heat index----yes they throw this at us even at this level ---of 31C----

The rain's not quite here yet, but the temp has dropped from 90 degrees about 15 minutes ago to 75 degrees currently-  pretty breezy, too...

EDIT:  Storm was a colossal dud here- fell apart just as it was about to hit our side of town.  We've barely gotten a sprinkle.

Hit the deck, Brian! Tornado!!

Sorry, had to get that out, NOAA NWS just issued the warning....

Mirror hit 97 going through Chicago this afternoon, just as I was passing Carl's workplace on I-294.  Settled down to 90 when I parked at 3pm at the state line, and I have Idleaire working overtime on keeping me cool right now (though the cool shower helped immensely).

If that line holds together long enough, they may hit here, will see what happens.  Be back later...

Afternoon all!

Sorry I didn't get in here this morning. I had to go to Indianapolis for a doctors appointment. It went well. A beautiful sunrise greeted us as we drove into Brownsburg IN. But getting up so early caused me to be a little sleepy now...Sleepy We are counting down the days till' vacation. So today we went to the Lafayette IN. Amtrak station to see where we could park. Well, turns out, we can't park on the premasis. The parking lot is about a quarter of a mile away from the station!!! Outragous! Also the station in Lafayett is in a REALLY seedy part of town. Now, on to what I was going to say, Mom and Dad have made the decision to cancel the tickets to Chicago from Lafayette, and get tickets from Crafordsville IN. That station is a little "Amshack" but in a better town.

Really cooking hot today. Not as humid, but still hot. 89*F right now. We, while at the Lafayette Amtrak station, saw a CSX work train with 3 or 4 REALLY old gondolas. Also had 2 yellow "tie" cars with a John Deere "pincher" machine in the back unloading fresh ties onto the side of the ROW. It was pulled by a big "hi-rail" truck. Kind of suprised me a little bit. Oh I almost forgot the old Semaphores have been finally removed between Lafayette and Crafordsville IN. Now just big fat searchlites, and target signals in there place. Disapprove

CW, A beef&been burito please! Yumm! Dinner Thank you!

Everyone have a good day/afternoon!

Quentin,

My grandma had a good remedy for moles. She would take a shovel and beat them to death! Thumbs Up

Willy......Attrited pretty well translates into similar action...And they are still underground.  No need to go any farther.  Just flatten down the "tunnel" and restore the grass....End of project.

We have pretty blue skies this afternoon and hot temps...about 90.

It is HOT right now. Here at home, the weather station says it's 97.5 degrees, dewpoint of 72 degrees, heat index of 108 degrees. However, I believe that Shenandoah, Iowa might be the hottest feeling place in the United States at this time. They have a temperature of 95 degrees, a dewpoint of 86 degrees, and heat index of 128 degrees. Several surrounding locations have heat indices of around 120 degrees, so that's probably a valid reading. The corn fields in that area really boost the humidity, and thus the heat indices.

That's all from here. Stay cool this afternoon.

......Around noon today upon returning back from a run over town...i inspected {the mole field}, once again.....To my anguish, another was active and I sighted him at the forward end of "his" tunnel.  So, with that movement sight....he was attrited.  Wow....where are they coming from...!!

Clear back at the rear edge of our lawn where it joins connection with the golf course.

We've had this battle before....and they didn't win.

So....still beautiful sky out there and HOT.....Not the weather to be doing much activity in right now....But later an outdoor picnic meal over at a friends house late afternoon.  Even took advantage of the nice weather and ran the truck thru the car wash.

And yes, we did just finished watching the President's news conference.

We had fewer people than last week, to show up for Tuesday Produce:  56 people.  We only got three items today:  lettuce (iceburg & romaine), onions and potatoes.  That will come in handy for our Mexican Fiesta:

1.  Burritos (beef, beef &  bean, enchilada style); 2.  Tacos (soft shell & hard shell); 3.  Spanish rice; 4.  Fajitas; 5.  Chimichanga dinner; 6.  quesadillas;  7.  enchiladas;  chipotle chicken wraps.  There's also tortilla chips w/picante sauce, salsa and con queso dips.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and remember to drink plenty of fluids (water, Gatorade, Vitamin water, lemonade, iced tea, fruit punch, etc.), and keep as cool as possible.  Our temp's not supposed to go over 90 today, but the heat index will be between 95 and 100 again today.

Quentin, I remember that one tool you're talking about:  the one with the big 'teeth', that you poke into the ground.  My Daddy had several of them, that he'd put around the yard on our farm.  And yeah, they do make a mess of your yard!

Moles....real yard trouble.  But....I believe all current active rodents {here}, of said caliber....have been "attrited".

Beautiful morning here.....and another hot one in store for us today....Seems similar weather is continuing all week.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Hope you all enjoyed your evening, and stayed as cool as possible.  On tap for us in Louisville today:  more heat and humidity, with a high of 90 again today.  I wonder if we'll have Produce in the air conditioned gym, or out in the heat this morning.

Coffee, juices, lemonade, Gatorade, iced teas and hot water for hot tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  biscuit sandwiches  w/sausage, egg & cheese,  bagels, bear claws.

Evening everyone...

About 75 here in Perrysburg, OH, headed for Milwaukee with a bottle load, then my dispatcher gets to figure out how to get me to Tomah/Black River Falls for a weekend of NTPA truck and tractor pulls.

Mudchicken: This was a participant in the Watermelon 500?  If so, you is lucky that is all that's broke.

Speaking of broke, got the noise fixed on the truck:  Broke a bolt that holds the primary turbocharger onto the exhaust manifold, engine is nice and quiet now (or at least as quiet as a CAT motor can be).

Well, just had dinner, so off to bed, sounds like the truck parked in front of me got his fuel line changed and the truck reprimed, motor in that big Pete sounds smoother now.

AC in truck (both circuits) will get a workout tomorrow, forecast is 90-95 in Chicago tomorrow.....
