Well, two sold-out "Easter Bunny" Trains today.  A few rough spots in the execution of the event itself, but train ops went well - except when one of the locomotives sprung an oil leak and was relegated to the status of "push platform" for our second trip north...

Only caught a few CSX and Amtrak trains at the Utica Union Station, but just as I was leaving for the day, a westbound came through with a Norange BNSF in the lead.

Headed to Syracuse for Easter with daughter and SIL tomorrow.

Quentin;  have you ever had smoked channel catfish ???  That is really good , but it takes a while to get done .  If you use hickory chips you get a fine taste , ( no oily taste) . Years ago friends of us  seined some in the back waters of Missisinnawa river. We have smoked some through the years since then .  Happy Easter to you & yours . ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cannonball

Quentin;  have you ever had smoked channel catfish ???

Cannonball.....Probably not smoked Catfish, but just not too long ago I finally tried Catfish over here at our Texas Roadhouse on McGalliard, and it was pretty good.

Best wishes to you and family on this special weekend...

Special Muncie news;

This past Thursday was a marked day here in the history of manufacturing in Muncie.....Borg-Warner Automotive...{formally Warner Gear}, ceased production at the local plant.....!  Actual shut down is to be April 24th, but production has now ended.  After 108 years of producing automotive power train products....the end has arrived.

2 years ago BWA wanted the local union to open up the contract {early}, to make some adjustments to compete....The union would have nothing with  doing that, so in a few months after that, the company released the word of impending shut down on the above day.  Operations would cease in Muncie.   How sad.  What a history here.

There remains 70 employees at the plant until the official shutdown.  Right before I was hired many years ago, employment was as high as 6100.

This plant had many firsts....including the first automatic transmissions installed in Ford vehicles.  Of course the shut down has effected many workers and that's sad...The customer at shut down was Ford....Transfer case assy. for 4 by 4 Ford products....especially the F-150 and SUVs...

Of course the famous overdrive manual transmisson was originated here and produced for the domestic automotive manufactures back decades ago.....many power train products were produced for the government for use in WWII.....That caused a rather large enlargement of the plant at the time....In the past there were 3 plants here in Muncie.

Yes, the famous Warner Gear manual 4-speed transmission {T-10} originated here....installed  in many makes....Including the Corvette and later, modern 4 and 5 speed {T-5 overdrive}, units....later still, 6- speed manual {T-56}....and so on.....

I had about 37 years at the operation.  Retired 16 years ago and don't expect to be effected by it....It is sad to drive past the half mile long plant knowing what it really was, and now operations will be complete on the above date.

As I believe you know, the large "Chevrolet plant" here in Muncie closed and the plant was demolished over a year ago....

Progress in our times......I suppose.

Evening all.....

Sorry if the place smells a bit like smoke, my dad and I were clearing brush and old grape vines out of some of our property.  Cut down about four trees and got rid of the vines and a few brambles, hope to have lawn growing there later in the year.  My parents have about 2-4 acres of overgrown former pasture that we are clearing, eventually we are going to build a pole barn to house our hobbies (dad's woodshop, my auto shop and our model railroad).

Had a DOT physical the other day, now have to go see a doctor about getting my blood pressure lowered before the three month card expires, minor detail right now.

See everyone later.....

Good Easter Sunday morning, everyone.  Looks like it's going to be a very beautiful day today, with plenty of sunshine!  Little chilly this morning, with a current temp of 41, going up into the mid 60s this afternoon.  Then, the next round of rain showers/storms comes in for tomorrow thru Tuesday.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  blueberry muffins, pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, and an assortment of doughnuts, along with bagels and bear claws.

Randy, don't worry about the smoke smell.  The smell of the ham smoking in the smoker grill is taking care of it.

Everyone have a very good morning, and those going out for Easter Sunrise servies, and regular Easter Sunday services, be careful and take care.

....A beautiful Easter morning here but cold.  Frost and bright sunshine and 33 degrees.   Should warm up considerably today.

Seems we got a good start on Spring and lately we've been below our normal temps....Blossoms are pushing out rather well now, but should have been out a bit earlier.  But again, it's a nice Easter morning.  Church should be filled today....2 services.

Quentin, progress  some good some bad . It is indeed sad to see those places go. Our short time in Muncie & Yorktown was from economics of the times.  These towns are special to Shirl & me as young Jim was born  here. Daleville is where we were married 54yrs. past . Dayton, Ohio has the same problems . GM & Chrys. are gone or going.  How we ended up in a cabin on the hill  here in Cordes  ( malfunction jct.)  is a close to a long trail . Life is still good, now better.  Thank you for the update on Muncie.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Respectfully, Cannonball

"blueberry muffins and Coffee", Cannonball, that's an excellent combination! Now I kind of feel like baking blueberry muffins. I've been to mass at Calvary Cathedral, Episcopal Church with two of my sisters and their husbands and I got home from church within the last hour.

My brothers and sisters and I will be gathering later this afternoon at the home of one of my sister's for Easter dinner, I am guessing that Carol and Harley have a turkey in their oven right now. And I am getting ready to bake a couple loaves of cinnamon bread for our dinner.Chef

Happy Easter to Walt, Paula, Sarah and all the rest of you folks out there, and I hope you are all having a very good day!

Happy Easter to everyone! At the risk of sounding like a priest, please remember that the Easter Bunny, eggs, ham, and jellybeans are all nice, but the true point of Easter is to celebrate the fact that Jesus died on the cross, descended into hell, and rose on the third day to save us from our sins and open Heaven to all of us. We are truly blessed.

Cloudy and cool here today. There could be some rain tonight and tomorrow, but not much to write home about. It's been a bit dry, so we could certainly use the rain.

Easter vacation lasts through Wednesday and then it's into the home stretch with school.

Did anyone watch "The West Wing" when it was on TV? My Government teacher has been showing us a few episdoes and I'm completely hooked on it. I even signed up for Netflix just so I can watch an episode whenever I get some spare time, which happens about once a month if I'm lucky.

Yes, Willie, we as Christians should not be afraid, nor ashamed to proclaim and declare that Christ Jesus has risen from the dead! His blood was shed for all of us at Calvary, "and even while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Amen CP! Our god has rosen from the dead and the stone has been roled away! He has died for our sins! "For god sol loved the world that he gave his only beggotn son that we might have everlasting life!"

Anyway I have a thing I need god to help me with right now. Not to sound like a whiney butt but I sprained my ankle yesterday. I was on a service road by the SIA plant in Lafayette shooting 2 new BNSF ES44DC's when I stepped in a mud hole! It is swelled up. It hurts and I.... GOT A REALLY GOOD SHOT OF THEM!!!!! Yah It is awesome! Mrs. Mook, I will put them on here for you too see when I get them downloaded. The sad part is when I fell I smashed my good camra. Sscreen & lens is busted out of it. I still have the old one though. Mom isn't really that upset so I guess I was lucky I didn't get grounded. CW, supper is good!

Talk at you guys later,

Justin

A snowy Easter in the Maritimes, but we made it to church and then on to our last stop before taking to the rails again. A beautiful day, as we celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord.

Nice day here, if a bit cool.

A story about what I was doing Saturday: http://news10now.com/content/top_stories/137315/taking-a-ride-on-the-easter-bunny-express/Default.aspx.  You can just catch a long-distance glimpse of me during the interview with the organizer.  And if I didn't tell you it was me, you wouldn't be able to tell...

Spent the better part of the day with daughter and SIL.  Church, then dinner.  Next time I see her she'll be holding the baby.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Not too bad a start this morning, rain hasn't reached us yet.  But it's on the way in.  Our current temp at 6:48 is about 50, 51 degrees.

Larry, I agree with Quentin:  believe I saw you in the background, on the left side, in the background of the video.

Coffee, juices, and hot water for tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and hash browns.

Going to be making a trip to the library this morning, and will try to beat the rain drops, and get back home before it gets too wet outside.  We have a chance of some thunderstorms later on.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get back home before the storms hit.  But just in case, there's plenty of leftovers from Sunday Dinner for you all for lunch.

You all enjoy breakfast, and have a good morning.

Morning everybody. At present, 50 and PC in Carolina, with thunder forecast for later and a high, I think, of 82. The wireless will stay disconnected till that passes. As a former Navy man, I am proud of our service and the way it handled the situation off Somalia. For the life of me tho, I can't understand why convoys have not been instituted. Convoys defeated the uboats in two world wars and will beat those rag tag pirates too. Nuff sed

Blindfold  Well, allergy season is a big hit here at our house.  It is raining very nicely outside and my eyes are running equally as well inside.  Ugh.

Tree - next year dress as a bunny or an Easter egg so we can get a better look.

BNSF running a little better yesterday afternoon.  Lots of greenies going in and out!  Joe - sent DE back to you full and ready to go.  Also saw a Herzog ballast/riprap train headed east.  About 50 cars. Just the engine and the cars and I couldn't tell if they were loaded or not.  But was exciting to see something different.

Must rest mah eyes - (I can type with them closed!)

I agree Tom....convoys would be a deterrent.  And I believe it is time to have {at least some of the free world}, nations come together and organize a workable, serious plan of attact.

If cargo ships carry value loadings of up to 100's of millions of dollars, it boggles my mind why a dozen or so armed "protectors" couldn't be aboard while passing through such dangerous pasage ways.  Armed men on deck certainly would have the advantage over men trying to scale up the side of a ship to come aboard on an offensive mission.

That's one point, but It seems the free nations must attack {in some manner}, the "nest" of these thugs and lawless crooks in order to begin to put a stop to it all.  Of course, what seems to be a deeper seated problem is the lawless area they are operating from...Samolia itself....which seems to have no government in control....actually no centrial government, period.

Smart intellegent minds of {nations}, need to gather and create a plan of attact...This activity of pirates in our modern world is unacceptable.

Weather for our Monday:  Rain and a bit of wind.  40 degrees.  Will be similar today, tonight and tomorrow, with the system beginning to head east and usher in nice sunny, warmer weather for at least the next 4 days.

I'm awake!  I'm awake!   Barely...

Up at 0428 (the pager is unforgiving - no "snooze button" on it) for a reported structure fire.  Fortunately, we got a good hit and kept damage to a minumum.

Just to show that I do listen to the scanner subconsciously - our dispatchers "pre-announce" most calls.  That means they list who should respond and where before they start sending out the tones that trip our pagers.  I apparently heard the pre-announce, because I was awake when the pager blatted.

Cell phone text from son this morning - he and his family are enjoying the Easter Egg roll at the White House today.

Lunch Time!

Bright sunshine in AZ mountains and a brilliant blue sky this AM with a high expected in the low 70's. We received about 1/2 inch of rain (yes I know that is just heavy dew for some of you) but it fell slowly and was appreciated.

Agreed whole heartedly. There seems to be a phobia in the free world about empowering the military and/or armed guards who are often given unloaded weapons to guard themselves with. When facing a savage and unyielding enemy, we should worry less about their safety and comfort and more about stopping them whatever the cost. I see now that they are angry and swearing "revenge".... It should be interesting to see what they come up with next.

Tree - know how that pre-warning sounds here:  often the police dispatcher will get it on the air before the fire dispatcher (they sit in same room) and I will hear (usually medical) before the station does.  We have had some pretty rough fires here lately.  I thought they would quit after Halloween and Christmas - those seem to be the biggie times, but have lost a couple of houses, due to the "duh factor".  And still working with grills on balconies and too close to the house.

I'd say "grills on balconies" are somewhat standard fare here in the university area of Muncie....Often wondered how they get away with such actions.  And crowded rented houses by students....A recipe for desaster.
