Mookie

Ray - only with English walnuts....

Mookie, if I had your mailing address I might surprise you with a little something. It's always fun to surprise someone with something I've produced in my own kitchen, whether it be cookies or homemade bread. Right now I'm not in the position to be doing anything like this, my main employer laid me off this week and I am not sure I will be going back to work at all. I have an application in with one of our Walmart stores, and I am exploring my options.

Wendy's laid me off under the pretext that all three of the stores in this town are losing money and that for this reason they needed to cut some hours with a few of their employees. I'm not sure I want to buy this excuse, which is exactly what Tom Johnson said it is, but if you couple this with the fact that I have worked with four different managers in two years, and they are now training a 5th, and the fact that they are laying off good people like myself, there is something wrong  here. I had spoken with one of my supervisors who had actually hired me two years ago, and she is not happy at all with this situation. In a nut shell she told me that she depends on me too much and that she knows she can count on my availability when others fail to even show up for work.

Larry, looks like your plan worked:  Mookie, glad to see you back today!  (I bet if I decided not to come in for a few days, I probably wouldn't be missed by most people.)Wink

CW - I am so poor I can't pay attention, so I will take that bet!  (Let's see:  I will need a banker, accountant, real estate agent, manager, new Driver so old one can ride....) $$$$$

Well, I grilled for us all yesterday, so today we'll have:

Sloppy joes w/your choice of potato chips, fries or onion rings, slaw or salad, pork n beans, apple sauce if anyone wants some, and, of course, there's what's left of Larry's chocolate cake, along with German chocolate cake, Dutch apple pie, and peach cobbler.

So far, we have sunshine and blue skies.  Maybe the showers/storms will hold off until tonight.

It's not limited to Lincoln.

So the story goes, there were thousands of troops stationed on Canton Island (an atoll in the South Pacific) during WWII.  There wasn't enough equipment to desalinate enough water for showers, only for drinking, etc.

When the GI's would see an approaching rainstorm, they would flock to the lagoon to get lathered up in anticipation of rinsing off in the rain.  Then the rain would split and go around the island.

I spent a year on Canton (now Kanton, part of the country of Kiribati (kiribas)) in the 70's.   We did have enough water for showers...

I am going to ask Willy to answer two questions for me after he obtains his Ph.D.  - why do weather patterns travel all the way from the west coast or from the south, get to Lincoln and then divide and go around Lincoln and then rejoin

Good question J....I'd sure like to hear that answer too.  We experience that phenomenon here in the Muncie area....You can see a straight unbroken line of weather approaching us and {many}, times it falters or splits at Muncie, some going to the north and remaining to the south to continue on.

Quentin, these LCD flat screens are nice, ain't they. I had a 17" CRT and when it went belly up, I got the LCD. It's like day and night with a mess of free space on the desk to boot. Take care

And Tom, I believe they use less current too....I've noticed on my flat screen TV's that is the case and this one is from the same manufacture and of course it's LCD.  And I agree, now that I have it under control, it really is nice....Lots of space around it....light to move, if needed....bright and very sharp....etc...so guess we'll keep it....Smile

Edit:  Plasma units are the energy users....

OK - I am taking time out from my busy "trying to hide" schedule just to satisfy Tree and get face first into the cake.Kisses Dinner Yum!  And with coffee to boot - perfect!

I wasn't missing - I just don't come out on April Fool's Day.  I have been down that road too many times and sometimes I am so gullible so I stay hidden all day in the closet.

Nothing new to report here....

Seeing Willy and some or all of his family on Sat.  They are coming to Lincoln for weather symposium and we are going to see if we can shake loose some BNSF trains in the afternoon and then dine out.  Not a very nice weekend here weatherwise, either.  You would think we could get some good sunny weather with a future meteorologist at hand, but doesn't look like it.

I am going to ask Willy to answer two questions for me after he obtains his Ph.D.  - why do weather patterns travel all the way from the west coast or from the south, get to Lincoln and then divide and go around Lincoln and then rejoin?  (watch radar during stormy season and you will see it happen most of the time)

AND.....

Why do people watch trains?

Ph.Ds ought to be able to answer that one, don't you think?  Shy

(I know - I worked with Ph.Ds who had trouble using a common telephone.  Some MDs, too!  But this is WILLY!  He will know!  Big Smile

shouldn't we say here kitty kitty kitty??

You've got to use the right bait.   See if this works:

Larry, hopefully that picture will bring Mookie a runnin'!  That picture sure got my attention!!   Yummmm!

I'm thinking maybe chocolate chip cookies would work as well.Chef I sometimes take cookies to work with me at Wendy's to share with my supervisors and co-workers, and the last time I had taken chocolate chip cookies to work with me, one of my supervisors, Setsuko Daniels got wind of it and she came running out of the office to grab a handful of my cookies, she's just like a little kid on Christmas morning!!

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  We have a current temp range of 44 to 51 degrees, depending on the area where you live.  Downtown here, we're at 51.  Going to be a fairly nice day, although we have a slight risk of some moderately severe rain storms coming in somewhere around 8 o'clock tonight.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, or you can have homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and hash browns.

Do we need to put out an APB for Mookie?  Hope she's doing all right.  (Instead of the old TV show, Car 54, where are you?  think we need to say:  "Mookie, where are you?!?!")  I've got your coffee mug out and ready for you, Mookie!!  Now, we just need to see your lovely self in here!

Everyone have a good morning, and see you all after a bit.

Johnny:

All this can be frustrating for some of us....My previous monitor {a 17" CRT} unit was doing just fine and still as bright as it was when new about 3 and a half years ago.  Then one morning it just would not turn on.

Checking it out it seemed {to me}, to be the power supply in it as the light at the off / switch would not lite either....Tried a different power source and that proved no difference, so we brought home a 16 by 9 aspect ratio and hence the elongated images.

But after I understood about changing the computer over from the previous 4 by 3 aspect ratio to the new 16 by 9, I finally was in business.  Now my photos look normal again, etc....But what a pain.  Hopefully, we're back in normal business with the new one now.

Gee, all sorts of computer problems (I love my flat screen, by the way).  I thought my computer was locking up.  Turns out all it was was a dead battery in the wireless mouse....   Sheesh!

The Dal is grumbling at me.   Better go see what he wants.

If you've kept your computer up to date, including anti-virus software, you probably don't have a problem.

Hopefully that will be enough if there really is something out there wanting to do computer harm....I have mine set to automatically download all approproate security programs available for this computer.  So far so good....it works rather decently.

Just added a flat monitor and had to deal with that....It was stretching everthing out too long so after learning to set the resolution {and that word had me off course}, as I thought it referred to sharpness and not to shaping how displayed items look.....Now, I believe I have it settled down ok.

Quentin, Ricki had to replace her monitor, and she got one of these new ones that is ill-proportioned. She was able to exchange it for one with the proper (old) proportions--and she then bought a spare one to use when the current one dies (the old one must have been an old soldier--it just faded away,  When we bought our last tv, we needed instruction as to how to see the whole picture at one time.

According to what I've read about this particular virus, nobody knows for sure what it's supposed to do.  Even the virus doesn't know, and won't until some host somewhere sends it instructions.

The nature of such things today is such that they often don't attack the computer where they reside.

It could be doing something nefarious from your computer right now and you might not even notice.

As was noted on another forum I'm on - the virus is based on a known vulnerability in Windows, and that vulnerability has been patched.  If you've kept your computer up to date, including anti-virus software, you probably don't have a problem.

Good afternoon, everyone. I fired up the charcoal grill, and here's what we have on today's menu:

Hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, pork chops, chicken, and grilled "baked" potatoes.

Side dishes:  baked beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw, veggie shiskobobs (w/green, red & yellow peppers, pineapple chunks), or, you can have potato chips, deviled eggs and potato salad.

Larry, I know you can hardly wait to see Evie.

Cannonball, maybe this virus today is an April Fool's joke on all of us?  We've not had any serious problems this morning, nothing out of the ordinary, that is.

Yeah, Mutt, where is Mookie this morning?  Maybe she decided to "play hookey" from the forums today.  Wink

Just checking in after a trip down to Indy to deliver graddaughter back to parents.

Just got an email from my son - granddaughter is walking all over the place now.  He says he's more than happy to hold her hand while she walks around stores with him.

Can't wait to see the little sweetie again - which will probably be right after my grandson is born, since the new aunt and uncle will be up so see their nephew.

Dreary here today.  Cloudy and a little rainy.   At least it's not snowing....

I'm late.....Just checking in after a trip down to Indy to deliver graddaughter back to parents.  And a stop for more breakfast.

Bright sunshine and clear skies with a bit of wind and 50 degrees now.  But consider this a very nice day.
