Walt had emailed me some pictures of a couple U.P. locomotives which were caught in a snow storm somewhere in Kansas, I think. Nice pictures, Walt, they have a lot of good detail to them!

I got those as well.  Looked like just a light dusting - the schools here probably would have delayed opening for a couple of hours....

Good morning, we have cloudy and overcast skys here in Sioux Falls and the temp here is about at 34 degrees, altogether fitting for Good Friday, I suppose. It's supposed to warm up here to about 53 degrees or a little better than that this afternoon. I'm planning on using the free time I've got to turn in a few more applications for employment with Burger King, Dairy Queen and KFC, and will try to obtain a couple more applications from a couple other restaurants while I am at it. I also should try to pick up the appropriate tax forms, I think my brother-in-law would be able to help me prepare my income tax return .

Walt had emailed me some pictures of a couple U.P. locomotives which were caught in a snow storm somewhere in Kansas, I think. Nice pictures, Walt, they have a lot of good detail to them! Thumbs Up

I hope the rest of you out there are all having a good day!

Gee - Hope it's nice Saturday - I'm working the "Easter Bunny Trains."  I'm sure there are some outdoor church services set for Easter, so I"ll hope for good weather for them, as well.  I'll be inside.

Got my bearclaw and tea.   Speaking of bears - if you haven't been over there, check out the "humor" thread for some hilarious videos of bears (and other critters) shot with a motion sensing camera.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Dale, glad to see you back!

We have had some rain overnight, due to have more off and on for the rest of the day, with a slight possibility of some 'severe' t-storms.  At least no chance of rain, so far, anyway, for Easter Sunday.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready

On the counter, you'll find the usual Friday assortment of danishes, doughnuts, muffins, bear claws and bagels.

Mookie, got your coffee mug down out of the cabinet, and it's ready to have your coffee poured into it, when you get in here.

You all enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning.

Mookie
You have sun and bumblebees way up there already and we are still looking for more robins?

We hit the mid 60s on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, which brought out a few warblers and swallows. If we get any sun during this long weekend, hopefully I can get out and see if any of our Ospreys have returned to a couple of nearby nest sites. Not a bad way to get fresh air and exercise.

Well we had our first 100 degree day here in the Alamo City

Wow.....That's a high temp for so early in the season.  We had a very nice day here but temps not near that, but the blossoms are coming out now in force.  And I did my 3rd yard mowing today.  So, I consider it a nice day.

Mookie, they were actually flying. There was enough sunlight hitting the black portions of their bodies to give them the thermal lift they require.

Yesterday I saw my first bumblebees of the year.

Were they crawling on the ground?  As you know, bumblebees can't fly because of their weight....or aerodynamics.....or lack of lessons.....I don't remember for sure....

Tuna melts sounds terrific!

I can now say that Spring has arrived out here. Yesterday I saw my first bumblebees of the year.

All the best to everyone.

Lunch today...hmmmm - how about tuna melts?  And we have something back here that I don't know if you are familiar with - Tuna Frenchees and Cheeze Frenchees - basically just a deep fried tunawich and cheesewhich.  Have no clue what they are dipped in, but not too bad. (Gotta be better than deep fried Twinkies)  My favorite is still roast beef, tomato and mayo - hold the lettuce.....

Mookie, thanks for your suggestion.  And that will be the #1 selection on today's menu, along with:

2.  roast beef, tomato and mayo sandwiches; 3.  grilled cheese sandwiches;  and your choices of potato chips, fries or onion rings to go along with the wiches.

And Mookie, I'll have to search and see what I can find out on the tuna frenchees and cheeze frenchees!!

Isn't that wild......One can't be surprised at what is seen nowadays....Something "new" all the time.  I wonder if one would be going 35 mph and all of a sudden braking would be needed, what kind of action would the veh. take.....One would think it would have to "lean way back" to counter the "braking" action......to keep from dumping everything forward onto the street.....Hm....I don't know.

Tree - looking for some different forums to read - maybe political - so how do I narrow them down besides just making a stab on Google?  Might even look into one on antiques.

Google is probably your best bet.  The web board of which I spoke is generally a local thing.

If you're interested in something local, check for local news websites - they may have a link to such a forum.

Very often I find that amongst the 'finds' of a Google search will be a forum on the topic.

CW - thanx for coffee.  And in real time - I actually baked a small Jiffy cake for the two of us!  Imagine that!  I haven't had cake since we went to Illinois a couple of years ago.  And, it was yellow with chocolate frosting and not chococlate/chocolate.  In another 2-5 years, will bake a chocolate/chocolate, but until that time, the forum cake is the best!

Tree - looking for some different forums to read - maybe political - so how do I narrow them down besides just making a stab on Google?  Might even look into one on antiques.

Joe, saw some of the new "one less traction motor" engines - 6600 series.  I would not have taken note, except for the #'s and the Driver poking me in the ribs to tell me that is what they were.  He reads my Trains magazine before I do and then watches for odd things that he read. Can you believe it - they painted them Ugh Orange, too.  Wink

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Lance and Cannonball, glad to see that the two of you were in last night!  Hope to see you all in a little bit more.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.

Mookie, have your coffee mug ready for you.  All it needs is the coffee poured into it, when you get in!!

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties), scrambled eggs, hash browns or tater tots, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.

It looks like we're going to have a good day on tap:  sunshine, and temps in the mid 60s, before rain comes in later on this afternoon, early evening.  Sure do hope the old adage holds up:  "April showers bring May flowers"!  Although, I'm getting a little tired of all the rain.  Some of it could hold off until we really need it, around July and August.

Going to make this another You Pick the Menu for Today.  So, if any of you have special requests for today, let me know!  Everyone enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning.

Better a little quiet time on the forum than the stuff we've been going through on a local forum I help moderate.  Makes some of our wilder days here look positively tame.  This guy has even taken to impersonating the owner of the local board to have the hosting ISP shut it down.

Just about time for bed.

Q - the solar panels have been thru here, too.  Kind of nice to see something out of the ordinary.

Since traffic is down (really only hear them on Tues overnite into Wed morning) they will probably get a lot of track work done.

A really dull time to either train watch or read the forum.  Ugh.

This afternoon while coming out of Muncie and heading for home a few miles out the west side....and driving on rt. 32 which parallels the CSX double track line....I met a double engine for power train and towing a consist of a long line of special hoppers used to haul and distribute ballast.

These hoppers had the solar panels on each car and as I understand they are used to keep batteries charged that control remote dumping of ballast along the ROW.

CSX has had new ties along the ROW now for months and seems they are finally working thru here to refurbish the track structure.  As I continued I could see where they dumped the ballast along the track as none of the ties were visible.   So looks llike the next phase is to extract the current ties and install the new ones.  Seeing all those solar panels on each car looked unusual.

CNW 6000
Last night she thought he was doing flip turns back and forth.

Daughter (due at the end of this month) reports that junior seems to sense (and react) when she gets in her car.  She says she often sings along with the radio, and he appears to enjoy that.   "Oh, boy, Mom's gonna sing!"

He likes to stretch, too.   Much to his Mom's chagrin....

I too, have gotten the "Oops, something went wrong" message, and it's happened to me three or four times at least.

Dan, thanks much for your words of encouragement! Within the next hr I am going to board a Sioux Falls Transit bus which will get me to two fast food outlets on S. Minnesota Avenue here in Sioux Falls; Burger King and the Z-Kota Grille's #2 store to obtain employment applications. I am also going to submit an application with my neighborhood Sunshine Foods store, where I do all my grocery shopping. I kind of feel that the more applications I can file here and there, the better my chances of landing work somewhere.

Meanwhile, Wendy's has not let me go entirely, they keep stringing me along, I am hoping that my situation will improve for the better with them once the manager who I think has resigned,  is finally GONE . The unemployment division of the state of South Dakota had informed me this week that I am eligible for a weekly sum of $96.00, but it is my understanding that I can not file a claim until Wendy's has really let me go. I could be wrong on that though. They sent me a packet of information and I plan to sit down and start reading it tonight.

^?

Q - had same problem last nite.

Joe - thanx

CW - I vote for Tree's suggestion.

Tree - they aren't any better at driving than here.  Duh.....

Dan - it's a water bed with bumps.  Note how much quieter he will be when he is in a real bed with a real blanket.

Sunny and a bit warmer.  Lovin' it.

Off to find some Mischief
