Haven't been outside in a while, but I'm hearing it's starting to change to snow. The county fire radio has been unbusy (can't say the "q" word, I'll jinx us). Heard several dispatches for pumping basements early this AM after some heavier rains came through. The ground is still frozen and the remaining snow tends to block natural drainage.
Lunch is cold cuts, although I did manage to put together some salads.
There's chili brewing for tonight - name your flavor. Plenty of Italian bread, crackers, and shredded cheese on the side, too.

We're into the mid February season now and i'm not sure if we'll allow that much snow to pass thru here.....Pass thru, will be fine, but to slow and stop....Not sure about that. We'll warm it up and fight it off......

I'm sure this storm system has done damage to many locations. We had WIND last night for sure....but to what extent of damage, I really don't know yet. Estimate 60 plus wind speed thru here last night at times. lots of branches down and out on the golf course right behind me small limbs down all around big trees.
Photo in morning paper shows a tree crushing a house nearby the Muncie area. Saw pic's last night on late news of the power grid structure damage down in Louisville....Must make a trip into town in a few minutes and we'll see what it looks like in those few miles.
Sunshine now and 38 and rising. To be sunny today. Probably into the upper 40's or so. Best to all and hope damage to anyone was minimal.
Sir Chicken is busy, so I will give you the information from the southwest USA. They have mixed up a messy storm out AZ/NM way and so Sir C will have snow, which he will then pass on to us and we will pass on to the rest of you!
This is the new thing isn't it - pay it forward? They say 3-5 or 6-10 inches of snow for our area before we hand it off to Brian and Carl. (That's where it usually goes, but could go south a little and run over Quentin in the process.) Then on to eastern seaboard and probably Tree with his rope he uses for a snowblower.
We had those 60 mph winds here the first of the week but with no damage (what's to damage - it all blew away in previous years. What's left is nailed down pretty well.)
But for now - it is bright and sunny and 45 today.
Y'all bring your sack lunch. Kitchen help is a little scarce. Keep reporting in so we know everyone is ok.

We had a T'storm come through here around 2 am that took down a tree in our backyard--just draped it all over the yard---we had about 2" of rain---T'storm gave us barrels of rain, sleet and hail as well. Then the winds showed up---100kmh or so---so we're watching things that were not bolted down flying abouts----
Besides fixin' things I might get some work done on the layout---provided that power stays on that is

At present, 55 and partly clear in Carolina on Abe Lincoln's 200th birthday. I am anxious to see the new reverses on the Lincoln cent to reflect the occasion. Everybody take care

.....Weather.....It's huffing and Puffing here....Can't really hear it much in here but the lights have blinked several times. Probably have been experiencing 50 or 60 mph gusts in the area this evening....Rain at times. We're getting the results of the big weather "coma", the wrap around part coming across us now.
High wind alert in effect until 1 am Thursday.
Just hope no one has damage in the area.....Haven't heard of any tornado watches or warnings from our Indy stations this evening....So we continue to monitor our ball game in Milwaukee....and it's been touch and go for both sides. Half time now.

Been a busy few days for me. Why does it seem that when one professor has an exam, all the others know, and schedule thier exams the same week. Or even the same day! I had a Chemistry, Spanish, and Music exams all on Monday, and then I have a Math exam Friday. I swear they get together and plan it out......
At least they picked a week with nasty weather to do them in so we dont want to get out and enjoy a nice day. Been waking up to a dusting of snow every morning, and it is usually melted by noon. About 20 degrees here now expected to get down near 10. Tomorrow is supposed to snow off and on. I don't care, as long as the dang wind doesnt kick up like it did last night....

Hello all. I had a quack visit this morning, and afterwards, the wife and I did some grocery shopping. She is exhausted from all of it. There was a high of 72 here, down to 69 at present and calling for rain. The breeze was nice and felt so good after the cold of the past few days
Today was the 5th anniversary of the day I almost died in an automobile accident. The other driver did in fact, pass away. It has been a somber day in remembering things that happened and how my life was changed for the much worse from those events. G-D has seen me through it, PTL. Nuff sed.

Mookie, you and Ricki should get along--until time to cook. Her first husband enjoyed cooking, and after he died, "if the can opener had broken" she and the children would have starved. She tried, three years ago, when I was recovering from my surgery, and again that fall when I was really feeling the enervating effects of chemotherapy, but for several years now, I have done the cooking.
A cool day (about thirty in the morning), with no new precipitation--but wait until tomorrow, when I take Rick up on the east side for two doctor appointments.
I have never been through a tornado, but I have seen the effects of two--one in Birmingham, in December of '57 or '58, and one south of Aliceville, Ala., in the sixties. It is truly amazing that so much damage can be done in such a short time, and there is little warning possible as to the exact path that the tornado will take. I do feel for the people who have suffered loss.

We're on tap for wind tomorrow. Today turned into a good day for the "fog" competition - we had plenty of it, and a quarter inch (so far) of rain to boot.
Truck's out of the shop. Turned out to be a little more complicated than they thought (and consequently a little more expensive). But I won't have to worry about dropping a ball joint at highway speeds....

Well, we've just had a weather change blast thru here....Within the past hour we had wind and rain...Probably the hardest rain we've seen for many months and now a line of clouds ended coming out of the west and showing a front {of some kind was passing}, and being replaced by blue sky and bright sunshine.
I'm sure we're not finished with this line of disturbed weather passing thru from the system that did so much damage and taking of lives in Oaklahoma yesterday. Still have prediction of high winds and more rain here today.....Wind is minimal here now. 57 degrees now.
Well, it's lunch time, so decided to pop back in and post our menu for this afternoon and tonight: Making today "Mexican Fiesta Day": tacos (soft shell and hard shell), burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef burritos enchilada style; spanish rice, fajitas, chimichangas, etc., and as appetizers, tortilla chips w/picante sauce, salsa and con queso.
We are now under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. EST. Sure do hope that nothing comes of it though, since we still have a lot of pine needles to sweep up, and pine branches to cut up.

After the Blizzard of '77, our local leaders thought they'd capitalize on our notariety with "Snowtown, USA." After a couple of years of having to truck snow in, they gave up.
In the 40's again today. Truck's in the shop and I'm killing time at the ambulance station.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready. On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, Western omelettes, and some fresh fruit.
Well, looks like we may be in for it again today: quite windy, w/sustained winds 30-40 mph, gusting to 50-60mph, straight line winds, with plenty of rain, and possibly hard rain showers, and storms. They said that all of us still w/downed limbs, branches, could see the winds pick them up and move them around. They're (power co. & mayor's office) say we could have people without power again. They're telling people to restock batteries, recharge cell phones, etc., to be prepared, along with going to the grocery and stocking up on basics.
Mookie, got your coffee mug ready and waiting for your coffee to be poured into it.
Hope Joe gets computer/technical problems taken care of soon, so we can have him back in here with us!

CW, we got word today that no cuts in our programs ( 60 plus or TFAP ) canned goods . All thecuts were for Y'pai cty. The head shed lady here asked if the folks here ain't supposed to get hungry ?? Phx. said , it was just an oversight . Yeaaaaah.~~~~~ We are OK health wise, warm and dry after the fierce rain & snow hit here with a touch of black ice . Looks like spring (or at least spring weather) has already arrived in some parts of the country. Nice day today - in the 40's, although there was the threat of freezing rain this morning.
Hoping for good travel weather on Friday and Monday - Son, DIL, and granddaughter are headed north for a visit and I want them here safe and sound.
Looks like Ms Mook and Willie are out of danger this round - it's south and east of them as I write this.
Looking for a nice day tomorrow, too. Truck's going in the shop and I'm planning on hoofing it around town while it's there. Snow's OK, it's rain I don't want to deal with.

The temperature didn't reach the record, after all--"only" 61. Nasty storms (same system that brought the tornadoes to Oklahoma) will hit us tonight, then we'll have snow again by Friday. However, we got out to Elmhurst for a while in our errand-running and caught a train or three.
Johnny, there's plain boiled custard, and Tom, I made some sauce to put over the pound cake, for anyone who wants sauce.
Finally got through with everything for today. Along with the chicken & dumplings, I'm grilling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and frying fries and breaded mushrooms. There's also cole slaw and garden salad.

bout thirty here this morning, with fresh powder snow. The snow yesterday was wet, but the sun took care of it after finally coming out. This morning had about two inches accumulated on the sidewalk (in the valley; it was on the order of between one and two feet deep at the ski resorts). After I went over it with the shovel, the wind dried what was left off.
Paula, that pound cake looks good; do you have any plain boiled custard to go with it? Hot pound cake with cold custard or cold pound cake with hot custard; either way is good.
There is no justice--the people next door to us, who never cleared their sidewalk, have no snow on theirs any more either. We just have one pile left in our front yard to show for all of that hard work. It's breezy here already today, and should get up to 65, which will break all previous records. Severe storms could result tonight and tomorrow.
I have this urge to get out and do something today--I'm hoping to pay our bills and run other errands in downtown Elmhurst, keeping a close eye on the tracks for some anticipated action. Yesterday we had an early Valentine's Day celebration with the grandchildren, who will be away on the actual day. Not the most pleasant--oldest was bothered by allergies or something affected by the change in the weather; number two is coming down with a cold, and number three had a bit of croup overnight. Pat is sore this morning--spent too much time down on the floor tickling Emily (who was asking for it!). I suspect she won't want to break out the bikes today (it would have to be street biking--the paths here are too muddy yet).
We're planning an exciting trip for early April--Pat has to turn in a quilt for a competition at Bishop Hill, Illinois, and we'll also go visit my sister in Muscatine, Iowa (they moved there from eastern Michigan). At the same time my other sister and her husband will be going to Muscatine (from western Michigan). There are trains to be seen in that area--especially if we go between Muscatine and Bishop Hill by way of Galesburg!
So far the CRO extra board is holding--nobody's been cut.
