Yes, it is horrible to hear of such a tragedy. I give thanks to God that Captain Sullenburger was able to land his plane in the Hudson. The last two times I flew, last December when we were on our way to Baton Rouge via Houston, and six years ago last month when I had to go to Houston and back, I was thankful to see the de-icer being applied to the wings before we took off from Salt Lake City. And I think of the tragedy in Washington, D. C., in 1983, when the Air Florida plane was forced down into the Potomac--a cousin of mine was on that plane, which he had had just time enough to catch on a business trip.

Surprising to me, no chatter in the Diner of the commuter airliner crash last night, especially our friends from N Y.

Been keeping track of the coverage, and had the opportunity to listen to the dispatch traffic on-line.  It's one of those things we in the local fire service can think about, but can't really plan for.  While it's not far outside Buffalo, it's still a small town (listed around 1,100 people).

Sad for all.  I can't imagine what it would have been like to be at the airport, waiting for someone to arrive, and get word of the crash.

Hey, hey, hey:  look who's back!!  Joe, now that we have power back, it's good to see that you are also back!  Our power went off Wednesday afternoon at 5:15, and came back on last night at 7:30.  When Mutt was able to get the puter booted up (I was busy in the kitchen, preparing supper for the three of us), what does he find?  The forum is down for maintenance.  So just now getting back in here, after I found this morning, that the doors were still locked and the place still down for maintenance.

It's good to know that we were missed around here; very nice and comforting to know that we have friends who miss us when we aren't around.  And believe you me, we missed being here with all our friends!  Definitely glad to be back.

I'll be back in about an hour, to post the menu for today.  Everyone take care, and see you all later.

Well, so far, it is white and covers the brown very nicely.

Yep - got a whole half inch at my house, but everything is "pretty" again.

Calving and tournaments going on in state; Friday the 13th; Valentine's weekend; so guess what it is doing here and doing it very nicely, too!

Well, so far, it is white and covers the brown very nicely.

......Lots of sunshine here this morning and 30 degrees to start several hours ago and now warming.  With the weather these last few days we have completely melted almost all snow...Just a few piles in rare shady places.

Another tragedy.....This one in the Buffalo area last night....Terrible loss of life.  Some thinking of weather possibilities {ice}, being involved with downing the plane.  Airplane just a year old.

Edit:

We've seen the news photos of power grid destruction down in Louisville in the last few  days....So I'd say it's a good assumption they are without power.

Morning all. 37 degrees and cloudy in Carolina this Friday morning. Doesn't seem right without Paula opening the place.... Thanks for breakfast, and take care

Tom, I suspect that some bad weather in Walt & Paula's area has left them without electrical power to the point where they are unable to use their computer. I have Paula's cell phone number and I have Sarah's number as well, and I may try giving either one of them a call this afternoon after I get off work, and I'll try to find out what is going on in their locale. Hopefully, they will not have to wait much longer before power is restored.

Good Morning to all from the left coast. Temp here 37 this morning with heavy overnight rain easing to light showers this AM. Expecting about two foot of Snow at the higher elevations of the Sierra today and two more storms following. Some snow as low as 1,500' and expected to get up to four or five feet at the highest elevations in the Sierra over the next six days. We need it all reservoirs are lower than they have been in years. We had one of the driest Januarys on record. Maybe we can make up for that here in February. Don't envy the plow crews working Donner on these cold stormy days. The state workers who get layed off every other Friday are being offered half price ski lift tickets at many of the Sierra ski areas.

Larry, your adventure made me think of our driving today. Ricki had a morning and an afternoon doctor appointment over by the University (on the East Benches). We usually figure 45 minutes to get over there; we had snow here this morning (not much, but the driveway was covered), so we allowed an hour. When we got into Salt Lake City--no snow! so we were at the first appointment in good time. Then, the PA was not told we were there, and came looking about twenty minutes after appointment time. During the afternoon appointment, it started snowing, but it was very light, and we had no trouble (except for the going-home-from-work traffic). Usually, the benches get more snow than the valley, and the mountains get much more, yet.

Well - Had a meeting tonight, so instead of going home, I went into town to pick up several items I needed.  It was on the way to the meeting anyhow.

Light snow falling - leaving a film of slush on the roads - nothing significant.

I stopped to pick up a sub for supper - to eat at the meeting - and there was about an inch of snow.   Keep in mind I'm about two miles from that film of slush.

Keep heading south and up the hill to the meeting location (our fire training center).   Snow keeps getting deeper.   Pretty steep hill in spots and I finally run out of headway.   After turning around to take another route I meet a snow plow, so I turn around again and follow it up the hill.  Made the meeting in plenty of time.

On the way I drove right out of it again.  Gotta love the weather around here.

Hopefully it's decent tomorrow.   Son and family are driving up from MD.

Gotta mop the kitchen, then it's time for bed.

J.....6 oclock news showed on the weather map we probably will be about on the dividing line between rain and snow.....So guess that's not too bad if it actually occurs that way.

Edit:

MC....That sounds like a great new vehicle for Ed.

They say 3-5 or 6-10 inches of snow for our area before we hand it off to Brian and Carl.  (That's where it usually goes, but could go south a little and run over Quentin in the process.)

They're forecasting 4-6" for here.  Too bad, we just about got rid of what we had- still have some piles out near the street.

I've been real busy at work lately, putting in 11-12 hour days and planning on working Saturday and maybe even Sunday.  Oh well, it's good to be needed...

Reporting in, as requested--not sure why, looking at the sunny skies out there. We're supposed to get snow from tomorrow evening through Saturday morning--"some accumulation possible". We've had wind (left work coatless this afternoon until the wind found me), but so far (knock on my wooden skull) not even a flicker in the power. SJ, if we were going to get snow like you've been promised, I'm sure we would have heard about it. But then they talk about Chicago's Blizzard of 1967, which nobody forecast.

The last of our snow-pile has disappeared from the front yard. This week we'll actually be able to put the trash and recyclables by the curb, instead of in the driveway.

Welcome back, Joe and Matt!

Where's the mop?

Joe - the fryer is all warmed up.   Think there's still some 'dogs around - chili dogs! (with fries).

What, the dishwasher quit again? Kids *shakes head* It's still warm here, but there is rain on the way.

Think I will have a grilled chicken salad, and an unsweet tea.

Mookie

Sir Chicken is busy, so I will give you the information from the southwest USA.  They have mixed up a messy storm out AZ/NM way and so Sir C will have snow, which he will then pass on to us and we will pass on to the rest of you!

This is the new thing isn't it - pay it forward?  They say 3-5 or 6-10 inches of snow for our area before we hand it off to Brian and Carl.  (That's where it usually goes, but could go south a little and run over Quentin in the process.) Then on to eastern seaboard and probably Tree with his rope he uses for a snowblower.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

We had those 60 mph winds here the first of the week but with no damage (what's to damage - it all blew away in previous years.  What's left is nailed down pretty well.)

But for now - it is bright and sunny and 45 today.

Y'all bring your sack lunch.  Kitchen help is a little scarce.  Keep reporting in so we know everyone is ok.

Sir Chicken (I was just hey-you! a moment ago?/??) is back in Mile-High land after visiting EdB in the swamp...I had to get home before it snowed or BossHen would be after me with the shovelWhistling....We got rocked pretty good Tuesday night at the airport hotel. I hope Ed got the new retro'Cuda/Challenger under roof; that impressive blue thing still has its temporary tags on it! (Makes the retro Mustang look like a very poor second)...Off to play in North Yard now.

Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. Safety begins with ME.... cinscocom-west

.....And Jeff Gordon is the winner in the first qualifier race at Daytona with Tony Stewart finishing second.

47 degrees here and still brisk wind today, but lots of sunshine.

Edit:

Morning Muncie paper shows an incident that occurred last night with the high winds in the area of which a large tree was felled and almost cut a house in two....Lady sent to the hospital.  Same street that our first owned home was located on....in west Muncie.
