Thanks Keith, I guess this makes you our man on the ground for this one. Very nice calm reporting. I'm as curious as anyone as to the cause of this one. I would think that the derailment history for that strech of track would be high on the investigators list of things to look at. It may not be so much the history, but the cobbled together rails and the previous causes.

I looked at the photos on this website, and I'm no expert, but they look like a mess. I thought that the most interesting ones were near the top.

http://www.railnews1.com/CNO.html

The only problem with all these pictures is that they are detail shots taken out of context.

Some answers to some of the questions. Most of the track on the yazoo district is in fact welded. The majority of that line was double track main until a few years ago when IC took up one track to make it single main. As it was stated earlier, there have been four or five derailments in this same area. With that in mind, the rails may have been replaced with jointed. The one locomotive did in fact stay upright, but the right rail rolled out all the way to the front of the train. Will keep you informed with what I hear, since it is a local event.

Thanks Antonio, I try.

As we approach the one week mark following this accident, we seem to be running out of things to say. It's a slow news day, which is fine with me.[zzz][zzz][swg]

Antonio my friend, I understand that your intentions are only the best here in the Doggy matter. And admitting that you are a reformed hothead yourself, is proof that there is hope for our young friend here. I honestly think we have gotten through to the real Doggy who was buried under all of that crap, and it is time to move on.

We now return to our regularly scheduled program, "Amtrak Derailment in Mississippi" already in progress.[swg]

Folks,
Let's get back to the deraiment our thoughts should be with eveyone who was involved.

Hello CSXengineer,

Please don't take my responses as "Cavalier".

Quite the contrary. I was pointing out that in my younger days I was the "idiot" that ticked off the older professional, and then years later I was the one being disrespected by younger people. So I've been on the giving end and later, the receiving end so I do know what it's like.

I was just suggesting that though you were disrespected, to consider giving the person a chance to apologize and clean up his act. But I do understand your point. I "dissed" a gentleman named John Ross, who was in his late 50s, with my "motor mouth" in 1982 at the transit company. Even after being more respectful towards him, it was 2 years before he started speaking to me "normally" when he saw that I was trying to become a better person instead of "putting on an act". Believe me, it was a wonderful feeling when Mr. Ross started speaking to me again. I had thought that I was still garbage in his eyes. He passed away just a few years later, but I cherish his wisdom and memory.

Doggy,

It's good that you apologized, but remember guy, WORDS are still CHEAP but they are so good at revealing personalities. Your future posts and responses will indicate if you are really sincere or not, so Make the best of it! It can take a long time for a person to regain good credibility, but it will happen eventually as long as the heart and spirit are there.

CSXEngineer, Doggy
Stay well, and keep posting![:)][8)][;)][4:-)][tup]

Peace out, Amigos! [:)][8)][:)][8D]

Regarding those photos....I see no guard rail there, maybe it could have come in handy in this case, to keep at least some of the cars out of the ditch?

Those are some interesting photos, but it is difficult to tell anything from them. An overhead shot might explain more. Did the engines stay on?? Is that welded rail through there, I saw more than one joint in those photos.

Those are very interesting pics. Someone with knowledge and experience could probably get some clues from the shots.

Antonio, I wasn't picking on Doggy that hard. I was trying to gently get him to change his beahvior. Add to that the fact that I understand the frustration of CSX and the others who have had to put up with his antics much longer than I.

To Doggy and everyone else I will say that this latest round of apologies does indeed sound sincere, and would suggest that we do all give him one more chance.

Doggy, your credibility hangs in the balance here. Step out of line, and nobody will come to defend you. I expect that a much larger group will get involved, and not just the few of us here. We will hold you to what you have said here today.

Remember ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS, so play nice!!!!

I have rattled his cage in the past but in the spirit of railroading ( railroaders can rattle each other look like we will fight and laugh about it 5 min later) I wont waste any more time with you or your post (other than the few minutes it is taking me for this one) and dont think responding to this with stupid degrading remarks will get me to respond. the thing is I am much older and much wiser. i wont fall for your crap. as a matter of fact if you dont tone it down i am just shy of making the motion to have you barred from the site like the M&M twins have been. shut up and listen learn. and reply with respect.

you see some guys get hot on here like Kevin. when kevin come on here he was full of fire and we cooled him down a bit. and he is really a nice guy. he learned from his mistakes and appologized . and he was not even ask to appologize. the point is you may have some information useful to some to share or maybe you want to ask questions. the thing is it wont happen if you keep this up.

Now dont think i am going to dog you only this rixfix or what ever it is isnt much better. but he is to far gone to help . i dont even waste my time reading what he post anymore. the truth be known it makes me think it could be the M&M twins here again.

Wabash I am not and M&M twin. I am a normally a very nice guy but some times my temper gets in the way so I've decided I'm colling down respond with respect

Re: Doggy.

Why not give him a chance to redeem himself? We all know that he screwed up, royally, but you're not just FLAMING Doggy, you're picking him up and BODY SLAMMING him over and over against broken glass!

He may or may not learn a lesson as for many of us it takes years to develop a mature way of looking and responding to life. Doggy will in time. He has no choice. A church elder once told me: Just keep living, you'll learn!

Instead of continuously punishing Doggy; help the guy out.. When he or others "screw up", don't launch torpedoes yet, let him know instead that he "messed up" and give him a cool solution. You would get much further. Consider that he is still a fellow railfan & modeler. If you keep rubbing sand in a young person's eyes, he will not learn but instead develop much deeper resentments that will, believe it or not affect him years later. Trust me, I know. I was a "knee-jerker" for years and just like Doggy paid the price for it. For several years my mouth helped make my life miserable.

BTW: In case you may be wondering,

I am not a "Bleeding Heart" Liberal. I'm very conservative in my values and upbringing. I'm now a high school shop teacher and half my students fit in to "Doggy's" category. Believe me, some do push me to the point where I want to grab or jerk them out of the chair and "QuadrupleSlap" them, but I've discovered that the cool approach does work. I'm not politically correct, and won't mince words with the kids but I also temper my approach with firm kindness when I chew them out. It works! On graduation day, my worst students almost always break out in tears and give me a hug. [:)][:D][C):-)][tup][4:-)][tup]

Peace and God Bless, Amigos!

im glade to see that you can have such a caviler viewpoint on it...but then agin..your not the one that is being insulted for no reason...or being made the target of a personal attack... becouse the responces made the cubs lose....so i was told...
i just posted me feelings about this doggy person... im done....
