I was looking for bumper stickers for another forum and while I was playing around, I made this one:

Very tempting...

Cloudy and cool here in Winston. High in the 70's with the last of Fay giving us some of her moisture. Late start to the day (2nd shift) going until about 9:00 PM. Good cup of coffee w/ a late breakfast or early lunch (brunch, I guess) to get started.

Everyone have a great day,

I hope his gators have their beach towels ready then cuz they might get wet!

Yardwork this morning and then work later today.  Probably going to the Model Railroad Club tonight.  I have some AC4400s to work on-gotta install DCC and maybe...just maybe finish work on my grain elevator.  I'll grab a snack and then take off!  Later.

Hey Miss Mook, I will be company for ye in spite of your runny nose, if ye like. My wife is allergic to everything, including me it seems at times, and I am accustomed to the malady. To follow up on an earlier post, it looks now like the storm is swinging to the west a bit and may spare Nawleons

Good morning all ye fine folk. 73 and foggy here in Carolina with a chance of some more rain, and probably the usual lightning. Looking at the forecast, it looks like Gustav has taken aim at New Orleans. I hope the administration there will make the proper contingency plans, unlike last time, if it does in fact come ashore there. Everybody stay cool and safe

.....A cloudy start here for us...and 66 degrees about an hour or so ago.  Yes, I too am sneezing this morning.  Not sure where all that is coming from.

Winter......Really don't care to start to think of that yet.  Winter is different here in Indiana as it was in our home area of Pennsylvania.  One difference is elevation:  Here 937'.....Home in southwestern Pa. 2000'....That makes a difference in snow fall...especially over in Pa. we got some {just some}, of the lee side of lake Erie snow.  And the elevation makes a difference.

Out here it seems to be more wind and cold...{especially Jan. and sometimes Feb.}....Snowfall here is just 27" annual avg.  Pa. home area was much more and we have seen major accumulations there.

Here it can happen but it's not the norm.  More ice here though.....

But for now, believe I'll try not to think of all that stuff for a while.  A/C is running.

Ironically, I hate 40 degrees in the wintertime.  That means the snow will melt, making everything wet and sloppy, then it will all freeze at night, creating a royal mess.  When it's cold, let it stay cold.  If it's going above freezing, keep it there.

I really don't mind cold, as long as it's not windy.  Forty below rather defines "crisp" (which is what your nose hairs feel).

On the other hand, if I've gotta fight fire, -40 is a royal pain.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Hope everyone is doing well this morning.

Coffee, juices, lemonade and teas are ready to go.  And anything you might like for breakfast, you'll probably find it on the warmer bar this morning.  If not, let me know, and I'll fix it for you.

Mookie, I did step out on the front porch a few times yesterday times yesterday, and did my walking yesterday morning, early, while it was very overcast out.

Dan, I'm not much on really cold weather, but you're right:  in the winter time, you still may be on the cool with a 40 degree outside temp, but at least it's above freezing!!

Must be why I like winter.  All that cold and snow to get rid of the pollen!  Just think...in 3 or 4 months...40 degrees will be a warm day!  WOO HOO!

CW - we had a bit of rain last nite.  Seems all the pollen hid out in our place!  I didn't even open the windows and it attacked me!

Mookie, that's the main reason I haven't been in here much today.  Seems like I'm having to use my Flonase twice a day, in order to be able to breathe, without doing the sniffing, just to try to open my nose!  And I heard about the ragweed pollen being up Monday, I think it was.  Which clears up the ragweed pollen:  a good rain shower or some nice, cold weather?!?!

Now why should the news media say/do anything that makes sense regarding trains when they have trouble enough being objective with the news?

....Wow, it sure is a shame some kind of a deal couldn't have been struck to take a few minutes and at least video tape the displays at the station and present it to the TV audience.  Surely someone could have found a "twist" to talk about it being there for the public to see...

I could see the UP yellow passenger cars over at the platforms.....I just figured it was a consist stored there by UP and did not realize it was part of a display.

.....What really is the occasion for this collection of RR units.....?

Does it have anything to do with the convention.....?  If so, I sure wish they would show us a better view.

Maybe Chris will eventually have some photos to show us.

I thought I saw light rail units pass early in the convention week but last night again, the only transportation units I saw were busses.

844 is there and is the only steam there. BNSF has a GEVO and UP has a Hybrid Goat (2622)and a Big EMD (Heritage 1989) there on the DUT tail tracks between the Gates and EPA buildings at 18th & Wynkoop.

The DNC is playing h*ll with the only north-south rail route through Denver (and the state); the lights might dim for our denizen of the swamp if coal supply is tight at the TX powerplants.

(The other railroads passenger sets are here w/o locomotives and made a rather motley entrance into town from the south on Saturday and will slink outta town Friday)

....Our day starts with 64 degrees...{here at this late hour}, and cloudy.  Now that is a little different.  They have been talking about "Faye's" outer rings could touch this area today and give us some badly needed rain.  I don't know if that will happen or not.  Looked {to me}, like it was trending east too much to be able to catch even some of us here in Indiana.

Last night, at the rather late hour and again watching MSNBC and their "outside location" there in Denver....and the Union Station in the background....There was a live steamer over along side {visible}, that station....They were even blowing the whistle.  Marker lights lit up on it, etc....Which engine, I don't know....not enough light to see, but earlier it was said UP 3985 was going to be present and I thought they had changed their mind....

Of course the reporters didn't say much at all about it....just annoyed of the whistle making noise....Didn't sound like any of them actually knew anything much about what was going on.....Did anyone else see it.  You could really hear the whistle very easy.

So I'm thinking it was 3985 under steam we were witnessing.

Edit:  We now know it's 844.

Strawberries and allergies.

My late uncle was the caretaker for a "summer house" with an extensive garden.  One annual "chore" was the picking of the strawberries.

At some point it was found that said uncle was having a reaction to the strawberries, leaving the job to be completed by his family (mostly his kids) who often helped out.

That was, however, until it was found that he wasn't allergic to handling strawberries, he was allergic to eating strawberries.  As anyone who has ever picked berries knows, it's some for the bucket, one for the picker, some for the bucket, one for the picker.....

Congratulations, Larry!!  Another little one for you to spoil!

Mookie, sorry to hear that you allergies are attacking.  Think we could form  club?  Mine have been going strong for a week now.  Between the itchy eyes, and sneezing, it's almost a wonder that my nose isn't more open than it is.

Coffee, juices, hot tea, iced teas and lemonade are ready to go this morning.

On the warmer bar this morning:  oatmeal, toast, turkey bacon, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, bagels and bear claws.

Was lulled to sleep last night, by the sound of raindrops!  (And no, "the raindrops weren't falling on my head").

Mookie, here's your coffee mug, and a couple of bagels w/strawberry cream cheese on the side, if you'd like some.  Or would you just like butter on them?

Mawnin everbody. I am up early and guess I will open the place up. Since my last cooking fiasco, I shall let CW or whomever do the honors out of respect to the membership! Currently 77 degrees and cloudy in Carolina after a rainy night. It was forecast that the area just north of us could get very heavy rain, up to 3" per hour, but I haven't heard whether it happened or not. The wife has Pettibone's mortgage manor feeling like the north pole this morning, so I think I will go sit on the porch! Yall take care.
