I just got home from work and right now it looks deceptively warm outside. We've got 17 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and with the wind out of the northwest at 18 miles per hour, the wind chill is 1 degree below 0.

I wasn't supposed to start work until 11:30 this morning, but the assistant manager at Wendy's called me at 8:00 this morning and aske me if I could come in a bit earlier and help her get the store ready to open, so I was out the front door and on my way to work by 8:25 or so. I know that I covered the one mile between my house and where I work in about 20 minutes, and I try to move as fast as I can in order to keep my circulation going.

Mookie, having colds and sinus infections is no fun, I've been there numerous times. I hope you will be able to make a recovery without too much delay.

Gotta get ready to go to a Christmas party tonight with some of the people I work with at Howes Oil Company, and I am supposed to bring a "white elephant" gift. I found a couple items in my basement that I can get rid of, but I am kind of dreading what I might end up with tonight. When I picked up a white elephant gift at last year's party it was something that was real embarrasing.

I hope the rest of you folks are staying warm!

Our Saturday morning, we have gray skies....and in the last few minutes it now is putting down some snow flakes.  Weather people last night suggested we can see about an inch of the stuff today.  Temp. now: 24.6  That's not warm, but "warmer" than yesterday mornings temp.

Doing my infamous yawn this morning.  Slept in bed 5 hours and then in chair for 3.  Head all plugged up in bed, so couldn't stay down.  Now I need to work out the "chair shape" before I can get ready to go out.

Will grab coffee and whatever I can fit into my purse for breakfast.

Later....

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks for getting breakfast together.  You must have read my mind:  I was going to put some cinnamon rolls in the oven for breakfast this morning.  Thank you, kind sir!!

Yeah, Sarah  and I did go do a little bit of Christmas shopping (for me, it was more Christmas viewing), then went to the grocery store.  It was sometime between 8:15 and 9:00 when we got home last night.  Then it was time to get supper here at home.

Joe, you all be careful on your way to and from the surprise party!!  We want you all to make it there and back home safely!!

Randy and Larry, bundle up and stay warm!!

Evening all, and who forgot to turn up da heat?  Was all of 5 degrees in Richfield, WI this morning, had to leave the truck idle all night to keep the fuel warm. Not much better here in Perrysburg, was 15 when I shut down, but fuel is winterized and engine is plugged in.

Dan--noticed the idiots already out on the lake by 41.

Mudchicken, ain't ice fun?!?  Got chased out of Buffalo last weekend, and down US15 in PA last monday trying to avoid the white stuff.  Depending on which way the winds blow this weekend, might be in it tomorrow with the paper load, or Sunday with the bottle load out of Auburn, NY.

Well, into the bunk, and under the blankets.......

Well, the clock is showing that it's time for me to get the Friday Fish Fry out on the warmer bar.

Fish:  cod, perch, salmon, talapia, flounder, haddock, halibut, and jumbo butterfly shrimp

Side dishes:  Cole slaw, fries, hush puppies, corn on the cob, choice of pork n beans or baked beans

Desserts:  Yellow cake with either chocolate or caramel icing; apple, peach, strawberry or blueberry cobblers and pecan pie.

Larry and other current/former firefighters, I really enjoy reading your posts about past runs you've made.  They are very interesting!!

Well rats! He got away.

Some years ago we were dispatched for a person hit by a car.  They'd just gotten clipped by the mirror as they walked/staggered down the centerline, but there was still the real possibility of a significant injury.

When we got to the spot where he was hit, he was gone.

We walked down the road a piece, checking the shoulders, but didn't spot him.  Most everyone else turned back, but I wandered a bit further, only to catch him in the beam of my flashlight, running/stumbling away.  I lost track of him as I called back to the others that I had found him.

There was an opening in a hedgerow where I'd last seen him, so everyone else figured he'd gone through and started looking beyond that.  Something made me stay in that area a little longer, and I finally heard a low moan.  Found him laying on the ground in the hedgerow.  We'd shined our lights in there, but not down on the ground, as we figured he'd be standing up.

I think he had a broken arm.

Now I'm hungry.  I see an unclaimed bearclaw.

Morning all.  Current temp is 4, with wind feels like -2, and we might hit a high of 19 today.  Yup...that time of year!

I'll grab a plate of whatever is warm.

There was already a rescue/recovery of 3 kids stuck out on thin ice.  Two passed on and one survived.  The two that passed were older/younger brother and the only children in their family.  Be careful out there folks...

Morning everybody. It's 50 degrees at sunrise in Carolina, and that's supposed to be the high for the day, along with rain all day and most of this evening. After last nights excitement, I stayed up to see what turns up on the wireless. I have missed some good stuff the past few mornings, and of course, this morning, not the first blessed thing turned up..... Tomorrow, I will probably sleep in and the whole world will come a knockin'. Paula, thanks for breakfast, and yall have a great day

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Nice and coold here in Louisville, KY:  21, with a wind chill in the upper single digits to low teens this morning.  Going to be a very cold day around here, with a high in the low 30s, might see 32 degrees for a high today.

Tom, sounds like you had a very interesting night around your house.  I hope they do find that person.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  cake doughnuts, yeast doughnuts, chocolate covered, cream filled doughnuts, chocolate covered, custard filled doughnuts, chocolate covered, cream filled long johns, and the following danishes:  apple, cherry, raspberry, strawberry and peach.  There are also blueberry muffins and chocolate chip muffins.

Please, everyone, stay warm today and keep safe and sound!

Well rats! He got away. They brought the bloodhound in and traced him up to the thicket behind my house and lost him. Ah well, it was at a little excitement for a change. I never did find where the motorcycle was stolen from, but it was recovered and given back to its owner. Ta

Mook, If your 'puter starts playing the Theme from "The Twilight Zone", you Might have a real problem.

I'd be more worried if it said:
"I'm sorry Mookie.  I can't let you do that."

I hadn't thought of that one......especially in that Voice.

Much excitement at present. Blue lights everywhere with spotlights probing every nook and cranny in sight. My dogs were having fits before the cops showed up... Somebody stole a motorcycle and the cops chased him here, and apparently, the whole shebang came through my yard and/or field, where they are poking around now. Details and film at 11.

Quentin, I see that Erik Estrada is playing policeman in your fair city. Better watch out in case he's up to something that could land in a movie!

.....Hmmm....News of all kinds sure gets around.  You are correct Tom.  Erik is back in town to be recertified as a reserve officer.  Seems he comes back each year for recertifying.  And he will be riding with an officer on the night shift for a couple of days

In fact, he was at our Meijer's store today in conjunction with Police  and Christmas...toys, etc....He sure seems to take the police stuff seriously.

Temp right now:  24 degrees.  No snow.  This will be the coldest overnight of this season so far and our electric co. called to inform of power shutoff tomorrow morning at 9 am for about an hour and a half.  Of course we have a total electric home.   But...that's no problem.  We'll head out to Bob Evans and have a hour and a half breakfast....Ha.

Good grief, Monkie, you have one of those renegade computers that ran wild in some movie I watched a while back. Just wait till it jumps off the desk and takes off down the street after a cat.... We shall have to get up a special detail of computer catchers to help ye out. Please unplug it before that happens.

Brian - never met a bright lemon, let alone a really bright one.  Think we may be on to something here. I have a list of some (ahem) supposedly bright people that we could replace with them.......

Dan - to make you feel better - I have never eaten yellow snow and I don't like lemonade.  And I admit to such great hand-eye coordination that if I threw a lemon at Brian, I would hit Mutt right in the head.

Joe - mugged the mailman today - threw him right to the ground and pawed through the mail to pick out what I wanted.  Left "bill" with him and told him to help him up.  Mischief

Everyone knows I got a new puter, but figured out today that it is haunted.  It is upstairs in the 2nd bedroom/office.  I go down stairs every day around lunchtime to get mail and ......have lunch!  Normally I will put the puter to "sleep", but after about 45-60 min, the fan runs very fast which is very audible downstairs.  (it is very quiet when I am up here working)  I always cut short my time downstairs to get back up here and start working again so the fan won't run so hard.

Today I had an Xmas CD in - so I stopped it, opened up the CD door, lowered all windows and went downstairs.  Pretty soon I could hear Xmas music.  I came up to find that the puter had shut the CD door and started the CD playing.  Guess it gets lonesome when I am not up here.  Blush

Going to start sleeping with one eye half open...

I walked over two blocks to the little grocery for a paper (and found out they've quit selling them inside the store); took my gloves off coming home, because it felt pretty good outside, with the sun shining, and no breeze.

Today is going to be leftover day:  there's a little bit of turkey left, and leftovers from our Mexican Fiesta last night.  And I believe there's some chili left:  both mild and medium.  I'll be sure and put hot sauce and hot picante and hot salsa on the tables, if you want to make your chili hotter.

I think, if I can, I'll go out this afternoon, and buy Christmas cards and Christmas stamps, and start working on getting them ready to mail to family and friends.  Need to get that done, so people will get them before Christmas.

You all have a good afternoon, and take care.
