Dan - at 12, you haven't lived thru enough winters to really know them.  Jay and I have had our fair share and can tell you from experience that there isn't much good in snow after a certain age....unless it is in a globe.  Kisses

Just saw a log roll being made on television - the one with chocolate (of course) cake, filled with whipped cream and decorated to look like a log.  Be still my heart!

What bad weather?  LOL!  I'd guess we have 6"-8" of snow as of now and it's still falling.

...but hey, we're supposed to get more tomorrow night and then on Sunday.   So keep sending it up this way Mook, I love it!

If it's going in a sunny room, contrast ratio is important- the higher, the better.  We just bought a 32" Polaroid for our bedroom a couple of months ago, it has a contrast ratio of 4000:1.  We love it.  As far as brand names go, my son's done the research, and says that Samsung is the best.

Good afternoon everyone.

Alas, my 16-year old 27" CRT TV is dead. Sad I can still hear sounds but no more picture.

Any suggestions for a good replacement? I'm thinking about getting a VIZIO VO32L 32" LCD panel HDTV for US$449 at Costco, so I can at least watch over-air HDTV broadcasts.

T-bone and Rib-eye steaks;

If those are in danger of blowing away, I'd head for the storm shelter.

WRT the snow and cold, I won't mind it up until New Year's Day.  After that, I'd love an extended non-ending January thaw.

Don't worry Brian:  Mutt was standing by, so he wouldn't come up missing any of the meats he had on the grill (either by passersby or the wind carrying it off, so he could have it to himself, since both Sarah and I were not home).

Mutt, thank you very much for taking care of the grilling, etc., for today's lunch and supper!!  You are another one of my very good helpers around here!!

Lost power at my house at 4 am sitting at my moms right now after clearing out her shade tree from her fence line 65 feet of sliver maple makes a mess when she could not hold the ice weight on one of the main boughs dropped it on the fence and deck doing ALOT of damage.  That tree when she broke sounded like she was crying and said I sorry I can not do it.

I think our friends south of the Ohio River are hogging all the warm air.  I am looking at at least 10 inches on the ground and still snowing.  Will be cranking up the snow blower in about an hour or so.

It looks like Randy is going to have to drop the flangers if he wants to get home by Christmas.

I'm not really sure that We're "Hogging" the warm air, but I

GUARANTEE we'll keep it as long as we can!

(people to the South of us might take exception to that, we only had about 1 inch

of snow/ice the other morning, while people 15-20 miles south of here had around

3 to 5 inches of that stuff. )

Right now here at the house, it's around 63 degrees and is supposed to drop steadily

throughout the afternoon. Winds are already gusting very strongly; as a matter of fact,

the wind is strong enough for me to have to keep an eye on all the stuff that's on the grill.

(to keep it from blowing away of course!)

Looks like the Lunch menu has:

T-bone and Rib-eye steaks;

Pork Chops;

Baked Potatoes;

plenty of sides; including green beans, baked beans and others.

For all the Cold people that want/need warmed up; there are Pots

of Beef Stew, Chilli, and Clam Chowder on the warmers.

Salad (Tossed) and desserts are also available.

Edit: Got interrupted awhile ago, and didn't get to finish the Lunch/Supper Menu;

There are also plenty of fish either on the grill, or baked in the ovens.

Cod, Perch, Bass, Trout, etc. All for our"Friday Fish Fry"

CW is out getting things for the Cafe, CSXrules4eva is away, and doorbell

and telephone rang about the same time.

What bad weather?  LOL!  I'd guess we have 6"-8" of snow as of now and it's still falling.  I drove Misty to work this morning and the roads aren't bad (snow covered and drifted in many spots) but if you slow down and use your head they're fine.

Sadly I did watch one accident happen: Semi A locked his brakes up to avoid a car that hit a drift and spun.  Semi A jack-knifes and blocks both lanes.  Semi B was (IMO anyway) following Semi A too closely and tagged Semi A's trailer pretty good.  Semi C (who was behind B) chose to eat the ditch in between NB and SB lanes to avoid the other two rigs.  Snow thrown from Semi C flew into the NB lane of the highway thus making some folks ahead of me eat the ditch.  Cars piled up behind Semi C and behind me as well.  I made it through by slowing down (just took my foot off of the gas).  Once I found that nobody was hurt and all were on cell phones to LEOs I kept going SB.

...but hey, we're supposed to get more tomorrow night and then on Sunday.  This year so far I have used 3.5 gallons of gas in the snow blower.  At least the price of gas has fallen.  So keep sending it up this way Mook, I love it!

....I'm seeing all kinds of weather complaints and happenings here this morning....We got off a bit lucky.  Lots of rain in the last 12 but starting last evening the temp started to rise {slowly},  and did so all night and has cleared ice off our addition streets here.

42 plus, and continuing to get warmer here.

Just came back from overtown, had my winter tires installed on my S-10 so we're as ready as we can be with it.

All kinds of weather upcoming between now and Christmas....seems the pattern continues.  But we are doing better than some I'm reading about on here.

So we'll hope the best for all those with the very bad weather conditions.

What's coming?  Well, we had thunder, lightning, (several times) sleet, rain and snow.  We didn't get much snow - maybe 1-2 inches, but it only covers the ice beneath.

Sure glad I closed the door between Mudchix and me - it could have been worse.  Single digits tomorrow and not much above that right up to Xmas.  We will be white for Xmas, but who in their right mind would go out and frolic in it?  (Probably me)

Tree, be very careful with the traveling.  Sounds like you will be traveling right into it.

Driver figured it would be so bad he wouldn't have to go to work today.  No such luck.

Some schools here are already scheduling an early release today.  Should make an interesting night on the railroad.  Hopefully all of our passengers can get there.  Glad I'm staying there overnight....

Gloomy and a whole ten degrees here.  Finally got the bird feeders fired up, so there's a colorful show going on there.

Stuff to do before I hit the road.  Probably ought to have my tea in a travel mug today.

Larry, have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Schools here have their last day today, until after the New Year.

(no early closings, nothing weather related.)

NWS here is saying around 63-64 for temps. with light rain this morning.(now)

Temps will be (Supposed to be) dropping throughout the day, with wind gusts

to about 40+mph.

Here at the house we're showing about 70 on the indoor/outdoor; still think

we ought to fire up the B-B-Q  for the Lunch Time Crowd.

Larry, the code test has been dropped and now it is a written test only. Maybe you should think it over.

CW, thanks for breakfast. Currently, 59 and heavy for in Carolina on the way to the mid 70s again.Everybody take care

Thanks for the breakfast.

I too was a very frequent user of CB being a former trucker for 28 years. I ran Alaska from the lower 48 for 6 years and earned tht CB handle "Moose Gooser" as I got two with my trucker. After the second one my boss called me into the office just before Xmas and handed me a 30-30 rifle and said its got to be cheaper to hunt moose with this than your truck. After that my CB handle became "Rifleman".

Could not carry the rifle in the truck crossing borders and all but just the gift must have been enough as I never hit another moose or anything else for that matter.

Al - in - Stockton

PS Quentin we must have been in that Kingman Area around the same time, sure seems like that time frame. Next time I go to my storage locker will dig through my old log books to confirm the time frame with actual dates. I am a hoarder and have all of my trucking records boxed and in storage by years. Better half wishes I would get rid of some of the "junk" in storage but no chance.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Hmmm, all this talk of CBs makes me want to find the old movie, "Convoy" and watch it!

We are getting rain, and the temp is 51 degrees outside.  Winds are to pick up, with gusts 30 to 35 mph today.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready; even have some cold cider, and iced tea this morning.

On the counter:  cake and glazed doughnuts, chocolate covered doughnuts, doughnuts decorated for Christmas, chocolate covered cream & vanilla doughnuts, chocolate covered cream filled long johns; apple, peach, strawberry, raspberry danishes and blueberry muffins, along with bagels and bear claws.

Mutt, I wondered when you were going to weigh in on the CBs!

You all have a good morning, stay dry, and take care.

Haven't used a CB radio in years.

Hmm; CB Radio, haven't used one of them for a few years.

Tom - I have nothing but respect for hams.   I've known several, including the late Art Geyer, K8SWW.   I never had the wherewithall to learn the code, especially back when I should have been getting into it.  Maybe if I'd had a mentor.

Some folks view CB'ers as ham wannabes (and some probably were), but I think its just that CB provided the kind of social networking that MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and other such communications methods do today.  I know I had a great time with the social aspect of the hobby.

Greetings. I never was on CB, but have been a Ham operator going on 45 years now. I got my license when I was 17. Now, I have talked to people in every country, have antennas on 4 towers and various other types of antennas and have more money tied up in equipment than the wife would like. I can legally use up to 1500 watts output and do so from time to time There is no "lingo" and we use our real names. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and it is a large part of my life. .

Thanks for the supper, everybody stay warm

Back in CB days I had an Osborne 300 solid state radio in my {then}, 1962 Chevy Impala SS.  A solid state CB was pretty rare in 1962, at least here in Indiana. Later my radio would be a 40 ch. Cobra.  That too was a nice unit.

But since, as I mentioned earlier, it is just a portable {hand held}, unit that I probably havn't powered up for several years.  But it's still under the seat in our automobile.  Communications are completely changed now with cell's, etc.....

You mentioned Automotive testing, just so happens I used to deliver new cars from Detroit for testing in the Kingman area about 25 years ago

Al.....We're probably pretty close to a subject we dealt with....I imagine you delivered test veh's to down on Yucca Flat to the Ford Motor Co. proving grounds {APG}.  My company was BWA and sold products to Ford...{powertrain units}, and I was involved several times there at the proving grounds with vehicles and our powertrain units.

My involvement with most of the testing was doing so with trucks and automomatic transmissions.  Our BWA transmissions.  We worked out of a location right in Kingman and stayed there doing that work but did our running {testing}, from there and down out of Kingman and up over {old route 66 thru Goldroad and Oatman and on down to Topoc and back up to Kingman.  Also north out of Kingman to route 68 {I believe it was}, up over the pass and down to Bullhead City and back up and into Kingman, etc....

It was great...I enjoyed doing that work there.  Was involved several years.  Time frame was 1969 to 1971.  Would be there 2 weeks and back in Muncie 2 weeks, and so on.....

CB radio...fun times!  I was "Water Cop" which, I was 'assigned' because of my job at the time: Lifeguard.  I still use the mobile once in a while and there's a few base stations around town.  I think cell phone use/ownership largely eliminated a lot of the 'need' for the CB in cars.

Ditto that last statement- Mudslinger here.  Back in my bachelor days (1974-1980), I ran around in a Jeep CJ-7- hence the handle.

Looks like most of the ice will be going south of us here (knock on wood).  Heavy snow I can deal with.
