Good Tuesday morning.  It's a little bit warmer this morning, with temps in the low 20s.  Maybe I won't freeze too much, signing people in for Tuesday Produce this morning.  Sarah called last night, and she made to Philly with no problems.  Although, she did say that they had a little bit of turbulence when they got ready to land.  It was a tad bit bumpy.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  Mookie, your coffee mug is down on the counter, ready to pour the coffee in, when you get in.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, warm bagels and warm bear claws.

You all have a great morning, and if anyone is traveling for the holiday, be careful out there, and I hope you have a very safe trip.  See you all later, when I finish with Produce.

spokeyone,  some 40 yrs. ago I drove an International L190 that had those sanders in front of the drivers, and it worked fine if the sand was dry . If it froze it was useless . The next season  we had 12v. heaters in the boxes.  Course ya had to fill em' every day. Thanks for the memory .  Respectfully,  Cannonball

Good evening everyone. Thanks for the vegetable beef soup! Dinner

Good news for me: I just sent my TV to get it fixed and the repair cost was only US$98. Smile I should get it back some time tomorrow.

I believe our temp got up to 21 degrees:  a veritable heat wave.  (Please excuse my sarcasim.  I just hate any temp below 32 degrees.)

There's some more of both soups put out on the warmer bar.  Along with some more cornbread.

To anyone who has to get out in the cold and whatever bad form of weather you have, be extra careful and keep safe.

Howdy yall. We were at 37 degrees right at sundown here in Carolina. That was the day's high, and it's supposed to get to 18 tonight. Looks like yall have shushed and shooed the cold down this way. There is no snow predicted, and without snow, what good is cold??

Yeah, the sun is shining here, but it sure doesn't have any warmth to it!!  Sarah & Mutt are  at Lou. Int. Airport, waiting for her plane.  I elected to stay home, and get some cleaning done; have thermals on, and knew I could not get them on over the knee brace.  They just aren't made to go over braces very well.  And the one I have, you have to have right next to your skin.  If you put it on over your clothes, it won't stay in place.  Just slides right on down your leg.  Made that mistake once, won't make it again.

I've made vegetable beef soup and bean w/ham soup for lunch and supper.  And there's fresh cornbread to have with the soups.  Also, if anyone would like it, there's leftover turkey, dressing, etc., from Sunday Dinner.

Everyone stay warm, have a good afternoon, and take care!!

Ray seems to be first in line to get the cold air coming down from Canada.  Wonder if we could appoint him chief weather dispatcher and have him reroute things back north?  Just a big lump of the stuff hanging over us with a high of +4 today.  Snow scheduled tomorrow, but a heat wave will bring things up to something in the 20's.

While I appreciate the suggestion that I be appointed Chief Weather Dispatcher, I don't think I would want any of the other forum members blaming me for snow or Thunder storms that might ultimately hit their areas! Since my last post, it has warmed up here by 3 degrees, but the wind has started blowing and we have a wind chill of -20 below 0. Banged Head

....Our Monday morning report is somewhat in the center of what I've read of others so far.....4 degrees right now and it was 3 degrees several hours ago.  Got just a tick warmer over night as it was 1.9 when  I retired last night.  But the big difference is the wind.  Lack of, this morning....Still have just a bit but with those gusts of up to 45 last evening and the less than 5 degrees combined, was serious stuff.

The sky is bright this morning here with off and on sunshine as a slight layer of clouds moving by covers and uncovers the sun.

We wish all a good week and we also hope of decent travel weather to those who will be doing some of that.

Economics:  On the morning finance programs they have been saying that Toyota will probably not turn a profit this fiscal year....the first ever...!  Wow, if they can't do so that doesn't bode well for our auto industry, at least for a while.  If Toyota can't be on the profit side of the ledger, and we probably understand they are one of the most efficient auto companies in the world, it is very telling.

And a good COLD morning to everyone out there. I wish I could trade our -12 below 0 temp for Tom's 31 degrees, but at least the wind is not blowing here. I will be headed for work in roughly four hours and will have Tuesday, Wednesday and Christmas day off, but there is a possibility that I would get called to work to cover for anyone who might call in sick or fails to show up otherwise, which is fine with me.

I am planning on baking a lot of bread this week, and at some point this week I will leave a pan or two of my cinnamon rolls here in the Flat Wheel Cafe for everyone to enjoy. Chef

Let's all stay warm, and stay safe!

The ol' home weather station is reading 5.7 degrees....

Packing up the truck this morning and heading for MD.  Looks like some lake effect north of Syracuse, but the rest of the trip should be OK.

I think I packed everything!

Time to get Mom up and get going.

Good cold Monday morning.  We have 6 degrees with a wind chill temp of -11 here in Louisville this morning.

There's plenty of hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea this morning.  And on the warmer bar:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, tater tots, biscuits & gravy, bagels and bear claws.  And if none of that suits your tastes this morning, how about some nice hot oatmeal w/toast.

Everybody keep warm today, and have a good day.

Well, we finally got through our Christmas Dinner here at home.  Sarah leaves in the morning, to go back to Philly, to spend Christmas with her Mom and Grandmom.  That's why we had our Christmas today.  We finally ate around 7 p.m. (same time I had it all on the warmer bar here in the the Cafe), and then Sarah and I got the kitchen cleaned up.

As far as the temps go, our current temp is 10.4 degrees outside, and you can hear the wind really blowing.  I do know the wind chill is to be in the minus category:  just don't know, right off hand, exactly what that minus # will be.  Guess I'll find out in the morning.  I have stayed very warm andcomfy in the kitchen, with the oven going most of the afternoon, cooking the turkey, dressing, and with the other sides on the burners.

You all have a good evening, bundle up very good if you have to go out in this awful cold, and take care and be safe!!!!

Well, I feel really bad.  We haven't had any more snow.  We missed the brutal wind, so a temp of 4 above isn't all that bad.  Especially if you stay inside!

I have seen semi trucks from Canada that had sanders in front of the driving axles. Also saw school buses in Spokane WA with sanders. I have not seen any around here. Has anyone seen those?

Well, I survived another shift at Wendy's, I got home about 20 minutes ago and I am thawing out my feet and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. We have 0 for a temp here in Sioux Falls and the wind is out of the NW at 21 miles per hour, which leaves us with a wind chill factor of -23 below 0. The wind here was blowing much stronger this morning when I shoveled a path from my front door to the curb, and it was brutally cold then!

Also Quentin, here is the "Air King" set that you refered to in an earlier post

Murrary:

Thanks for sharing....very interesting.  Not too many out there remember this stuff....

You are correct.  We first had the Air King table model...10"

It developed some trouble and the dealer took it back and we brought home the console 10" model...Believe it cost about 420 dollars.

We purchased a 17" magnifier and used it on the console model later....

Weather:  It's now 8 degrees here and wind gusting to 40 mph.  Skies have been rather clear today and a partly cloudy sky now....A few snow flakes at times but radar shows nothing in the state.  {as of an hour ago}.

Ground bare.

Update:  Temp now 2 degrees and wind continues.  Saw on 6 news from Indy we {Muncie}, have been getting gusts of up to 45 mph.  Serious stuff.

Got past the storm on Friday (despite a really lousy drive over roads that were barely passable), had a decent Saturday (enough so that the roads at midnight Saturday were clear and dry) under starlit skies and a low of -8.  By dawn this (Sunday) morning, however, there was about 6" of new snow in the driveway. That little disturbance is past us, but there is lingering snow and some wind.

The yardstick shows 16" in the back yard, and that's settled.  I figure 18-20" here at the house.

CSX and Amtrak were running pretty normally all weekend through Utica.  We did pretty well, despite many folks not making it to the Polar Express Friday night.  The biggest problem then was the wind.  Rather than make some folks walk over 200' in that mess to board, we moved the train...

Some pic's over in the Lounge.

Our South Dakota winters can be bitterly cold, and others who live in this region, such as Brian and Mookie would agree with me on this point.

No kidding- we're currently at -3.8 degrees, and today's high won't be much higher.  And the wind is BLOWING LIKE CRAZY.

Thanks, Tom. I have learned to dress in several layers, I will be wearing a heavy cotton t-shirt, a flannel shirt, a sweat shirt, my work shirt, a pair of cotton athletic warm-up pants underneath my slacks and a pair of wool socks, plus if I need it, a hooded sweatshirt which has a wool lining. Our South Dakota winters can be bitterly cold, and others who live in this region, such as Brian and Mookie would agree with me on this point. Yesterday was not too bad though!

Although weather.com says -9, my thermometer says -15.  Went out and opened up a one car path in the drive, not because the snow is deep, but didn't want the car tracking out to leave packed and frozen snow.  Got the job done in about 10 minutes.  I had dressed for the weather, but if I had stayed out much longer, I would have had to get a scarf around my face to avoid possible frost bite.  I am soooo glad that I have no need to go out for any extended period.  Those who do should take great care today.

Way it looks, any ice on the driveway may stay until mid-June or thereabouts.

And a good, cold Sunday morning to everyone out there. Right now in Sioux Falls, South Dakota we have a temp of -8 degrees below 0 and the wind chill is about 30 to 35 below. And the wind here is blowing the snow around quite a bit. I'm not looking forward to going to work this morning, the working conditions at the one Wendy's store where I am working can be downright miserable. To start with, the drive-up window is always open, so it doesn't do any good to turn up the heat, and last Monday most of us who were working in the kitchen or behind the counter were wearing our coats. And then we always have cold air coming in through the exhaust vents above the grill and deep fat fryers.

Thanks for fixing breakfast, CW, and I look forward to the turkey dinner later this afternoon.

Okay, it's cold outside......

A whopping 5 degrees outside, just came back in after starting the truck, and making sure it stayed started.  It turned over a little slow, but fired right up, and will not be shut off till I go home, except for a fuel stop in Bloomington, IL.

Blizzard warnings up for most of northern IL today, thinking of running through Chicago and Milwaukee, just so I can see the roadway.  Jay, revised forecast for Burlington now predicting snow Tuesday and Wednesday, and dont give my dad any ideas about the D-9 Cat, mom already freaked when she found out how big his proposed toy barn was going to be!!

Everybody stay warm, and all the diesel truckers out there, treat your fuel.

See everyone at the house.....
