The predicted low here, according to one local channel was 20, but at seven a.m. (before sunup), the same channel reported 23. I threw at least six inches of new snow out of the driveway--and a little more has fallen since. I did not have to clear the sidewalk because a neighbor took care of it before I got out.

The road up Little Cottonwood Canyon (to two ski resorts) was closed late yesterday because of possible avalanches--so, anyone who went up to ski yesterday had to spend the night.

Lunch looks good.

Roy, I look forward to receiving those recipes!

I've got lunch on the warmer bar:  our regular Friday Fish Fry is ready.  All the regular fish choices of cod, catfish, flounder, halibut, haddock, clams, scallops, rolled oysters, etc., along with corn on the cob, fries, hush puppies, beans, cole slaw, and the pies, cobblers and cakes.

You all enjoy, and as has been mentioned, please be careful out there on the roadways!!

.......Rain....some wind from the south....and 35 degrees right now.  Glad it's not ice or snow.  Not a very nice day for after Christmas bargan hunters.  We didn't intend to do any of that anyway.  And now, it's really raining.  And some thunder...!  Last evening they were saying a possibility of some nasty stuff from the warm hitting the cold air.....

Christmas day here was pleasant with sunshine most of the day.  Streets dry and no threat of bad traveling in this area.  To be warmer next 2 days and about Monday it appears {from weather people}, moderate temps and some sunshine for next several days following.

Good  morning all....here in Aurora, IL and all of metro Chicago for that matter, we have really terrible driving conditions, having had freezing rain on top of snow and slush last night!  The town of Lemont, IL has COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ALL ROADS IN AND OUT OF TOWN, due to the town being in a "bowl" with hills on both sides and thus extremely dangerous to be driving in.  Our temperatures will be going up into the mid to high 30's later today which is good for some melting BUT we are going to have mid 50's by tomorrow afternoon with heavy rain (1-3 inches), which will cause flooding problems BIG TIME.  Please, everybody be very careful out there this weekend!!!!!

Good morning, and Happy 26th day of December, for what it's worth. Right now here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota we have a temp of 29 degrees and it is supposed to warm up to about 36 this afternoon. This is nice, a lot warmer than what we have been experiencing for the last week or so.

Joe, thanks much for making the cinnamon rolls and putting the coffee on this morning. Your effort here is very much appreciated. I think I'll grab a cinnamon roll for breakfast before I go update "On This Date in Railroad History". I'll be combining two days worth of events into one single page and that will involve a lot of work.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  And Joe, thanks for coming in, and getting the coffee and other beverages ready, and fixing cinamon rolls.

We have a temp this morning of 33, 34 degrees with rain coming in sometime later.  Today's high is to be in the 60s.  Tomorrow, we're to get temps in the low 70s; then, Sunday, back into the 40s.  Go figure this crazy weather we seem to be having.

Well, I seem to have survived the afternoon at Sis-in-law's place relatively intact. I had a nice ride down there with the wife doing the driving. We had a nice meal of fried turkey, dressing with giblets, and a half dozen or so special homemade recipes. Then, coming home we stopped for supper at a well known national truck stop chain and got totally grossed out. The food was terrible and most was left on the plate. To add insult to injury, their credit card machine was off line, so our usual payment option was out. We then tried to pay with a check. Guess what! They don't accept checks. The wife and I finally pooled our resources and found we had just enough cash together to pay for whatever it was we tried to eat. My wallet is completely empty and the wife only has change left in hers, and I doubt we will frequent that particular place too often. Anyway, it was an interesting experience.

Everybody take, have a good Boxing Day and stay warm

You make me think of a place just off the intertstate between Augusta and Columbia. We were going from Beaufort to Lancaster (I grew up ten miles south of Lancaster) this past April, and were looking for a place to eat lunch. We saw a sign that advertised a place to eat at a certain exit, and we tried it. The service was slow, and the meal was not particularly good. If we are ever driving in the area again, we will avoid it. On the same trip, we stopped in Marianna, Arkansas, for lunch at place that had a sign or two along the way (we have often dined well by noting such signs). The cafe did not accept credit cards, but I did have enough cash. I considered, but did not, telling the people that they could give lessons to a certain place in South Carolina.

The second snowstorm of today is now here.

You, too, enjoy Boxing Day.

The weather today has not been as bad as was predicted. It was snowing when we left for church (eleven and a half miles), and it had stopped before we got into Salt Lake City. We had no more snow by the time we got back home, and the temperature was up in the forties (at four p.m.). We'll have roast beef, baked potatoes, and artichokes for supper tonight.  More snow is predicted for tomorrow, with a low in the twenties; we'll see.

I still remember, with horror, Christmas about twenty-five years ago, when it snowed every day for three weeks, and this was pre-snow thrower time for me. A man down the street used his front-end loader to scoop snow away from the curb at each house so that it would be possible to park in the street if necessary. The following February, I left for work one afternoon about three, leaving the driveway clear. When I returned home about 12:30, I took eleven inches out of the driveway before parking for the night.

Good Morning! Merry Christmas!

Woke up this morning to some sun between the clouds, a few flurries and no running water!

Apparently some genius ran over a fire hydrant last night and well, the water company guys are on double overtime today. At least it is back on now. Oh well, brown water for a little while longer I guess.

Luckily the kids and Momma are distracted by the electronics. Santa brought the "Wii fit" and "Guitar Hero World Edition" so it will be a noisy day even before the 15 other family members arrive at noon...Sigh.

Anyway, it will be good to see the smiling faces and the big beef roast looks good...

Marry CHRISTmas everybody. Thanks for breakfast. I'm looking forward to that goose. Those things can be a chore to clean! When I was a child, my father saw one fly into the side of a truck and break its neck. He brought it home, and the three of us cleaned that bird till after 2AM. When done, we had enough feathers and down to fill a cotton bale. He said if he ever saw another one do that, he was going to leave it there in the road.... Everybody enjoy this Holy day, eat well and stay warm

Merry Christmas to you all .

Goose! The only time I ate goose was when I visited my college at Thanksgiving 1961. My German instructor and his wife (also German) invited me to eat dinner with them, and she served goose. I now know what goosegrease is; I had never before eated such greasy meat.

It's about thirty degrees here, with snow coming in from the south. We expect much more today, but we will go to church this morning, and after church we plan to eat dinner with a daughter who lives in a hilly section of Salt Lake City before coming back home.

....Clear skies here in central Indiana this morning....and the sun is blazing in my eastern window now.   But the instrument says it's only 16 degrees now and the trees are calm so must be the wind.  No snow, and roads are dry.  We're in for a bit of a warm up next few days.

Everyone enjoy this special Day.....Yes, Tom.....CHRISTmas day....!

Good Thursday morning, and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OUR FRIENDS (who we consider family, even though some of you we haven't met)!!

Welcome back, Brian (louisnash)!!  You need to come in more often!  And no, the goose won't be staring at anyone.

Woke up at 5:00 this morning, so decided to go ahead and get up out of bed.

Coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice, and pineapple juice, hot cider, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, and hot water for tea are all ready, for when you all come in.

I've put out some cinnamon rolls (thanks, Ray!), muffins, bagels, bear claws on the counter, so help yourselves this morning.

The pork roast w/potatoes, carrots & onion is in the Crock Pot, and the goose will go into the oven about 11 so it will be ready when the roast is done.

Once again, wishing everyone a Very Merry & Joyous Christmas!!

Merry Christmas to all the denizens of the diner.  May your holiday season find you well.  I'll be staring at the fire in the fireplace until I doze off.  I thought I heard something on the roof...
