Mookie, here's you a nice, freshly made mug of coffee!  You timed that right, didn't you?

Dan, nice looking ultrasound picture!!  When is Misty due?  (Forgot, and too many pages to back to, to find that info.)

If I still lived on a farm, I'd sure be making my own buttermilk!  I'm the only one here who drinks buttermilk, and I'd probably go through it like crazy, between drinking it, pouring it over crumbled cornbread, and using it for baking!  Hmmm, maybe I'll make and bake a buttermilk pie or two this afternoon.

On to our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta:

1.  Tacos (soft shell and hard shell)

2.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, bean, and beef burrito enchilada style)

3.  Chimichangas

4.  Enchiladas

5.  Quesadillas

6.  Cheesy beef nachos

7.  Spanish Rice

And, creamy mango dessert  and frozen Cinco De Mayo

Think our temp is currently in the upper 40s, and we're to get in the mid 50s this afternoon.  Doesn't feel too bad outside!  Very nice, with plenty of sunshine.

Everyone enjoy, have a great afternoon, and take care!

It is so sunny here in the puter room, I need my sunshine shades!

Johnny - Grandchildren are a whole lot easier to raise.  Didn't seem to take up as much of my energy!  And since my parents are still living - there will be 5 generations.

Barry - seems like north of us has had more winter than usual.  It usually comes from your country and then drops right down on us - but it hasn't come this far south as much as normal.  Ordering some palm trees just in case.

Dan - awwwww - it's a bebe....(doesn't have much hair either!)

Joe - Blush Color me curious.  And enjoy your vacation time!  I am enjoying The Driver's time off.  Right now I am getting a basement cleaning - for free!  Approve

Tree - how did you do that?  You had a boy and a girl and now 2nd generation.  (maybe this is best not discussed in mixed company!)

Heard Amtrak heading west - late - about 2 hours or so.  Then BNSF shipped a lot of noisy trains out from 3-7 a.m.  Even heard one going down the Amtrak line.  Yeah, I know - I am good but how do I know that from a dark bedroom?

Amtrak runs on a line that cuts on a diagonal across city.  It also has the most xings in town.  So when a train runs on that line, they have to whistle about every 2-3 blocks.  If it is doing an inordinate amount of whistling and is close to the south side of the house, I know it is the Amtrak line.

Amtrak has (usually) an odd whistle - different from anything else I hear.  They creep into town but with all that whistling, you would think they were doing 100 mph.

Had an Amtrak article in paper - Utah traveler (male) got into Lincoln at 5:30ish A.M. - had to wait for ride coming from 40 miles away.  Station agent made him leave depot at 6:30 A.M. so they could lock up - and since sidewalks were covered in ice and snow and coffee shop was 2 blocks away, he stood outside for 30 min or so in dark and cold and with suitcases.

Was it so important that the agent couldn't let the man stay inside somewhere warm until his ride arrived?  Is it mandatory that Amtrak close up shop at a certain time and not extend any kind of hospitality to vistors to our city and their customersBlack Eye

There's another question for you, Joe!

Must find something hot - like big mug of coffee.....

Good morning, y'all. CW, as usual, your breakfast looks good. Now, if you could come up with some homemade buttermilk (the kind with flecks of butter in it which you strain out with your teeth), you would have something I haven't had in maybe fifty years. When I was young, we would buy it from a man who came by in his old Chevrolet (about a 1928 model).

We were down to the low twenties this morning, and expect it to rise into the thirties. The sun is shining (I couldn't open the living room curtain because the sun would have been in my wife's face after it came up over the Wasatch).

Yes, Mookie, congratulations. Do you find yourself wishing you had had your grandchildren first?

Good morning from a not so windy London---we had a windy night-up to 80kmh(50mph). Today we are expecting a high of -5C with about 10cm of partly cloudy tonight with another 7cm tomorrow. Now we can build up the cover after the big melt which gave people headaches what with roads closed and flooded basements et cetara...hopefully we are going to see a more quieter pattern---?Whistling

A heavy dusting of snow overnight, although it looks like the lake effect is kicking in for some areas to the south of me.

CNW - Ultrasounds have certainly changed how we experience pregnancy now.  Before it was just kicks and such - now we can see detailed pictures and find out well ahead of time that (as my daughter and SIL announced to us at Christmas) it's a boy!

My cold seems to be getting better.  Kinda put a damper on Christmas, although we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Looking like a trip to Rochester and the Eastman House Museum on Friday to check out the railroad exhibition there.

Sun shining brightly...{as bright as it can in late Dec.}, being so low in the sky....but it sure looks nice.  32 degrees currently and looks like it will be a pretty good weather day.   We're heading the right direction now...have gained about 9 min. of daylight here in the evening with the later sun sets.

We're supposed to get 4-6" of white sunshine today.  How exciting...glad I got the snow blower fixed.  Enough with that already...here's an update on Misty and baby 'Sprout':

Good morning, it's cloudy here in Sioux Falls and we have a temp of 34 degrees. I don't know for sure what the weather forcast for this area will hold for today. CW, thanks for serving breakfast. I have the day off and I am planning on spending most of my fee time just cleaning house. I am also waiting for a tree trimming service to drop by and give me an estimate on trimming a tree out on my parking strip, which the City of Sioux Falls is insisting that I have it trimmed, and if I don't have it trimmed by a certain deadline, the City is telling me they will trim it and bill me at a cost of $150.00 per hour!

Good morning Paula and thanks for breakfast. A hearty Mazl Tov to Jen on the great news. She should throw a barbecue or pig pickin at her place for us to celebrate! Currently clear and 43 degrees in Carolina, supposed to top out at 68 today. I have to take the girls to the poodle parlor and get them gussied up for the new year, so I will try to take care of some other business while I am out. Who knows, mebbe I can catch something on the A-line. Everybody stay warm and safe

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Not too bad out this morning.  Stepped out on the porch for the newspaper, and talked a moment with my neighbor across the street.  She was just coming in.  Temp is ranging between 30 and 34 degrees this morning, and the wind seems to be calm.  Not supposed to be too bad of a day, but I can't remember what our high is supposed to get to.  I think in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider, juices and hot water for tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, tater tots, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.

Well, I see the sisters are in their car, waiting for Tuesday Produce.  The past few weeks, haven't had too many people showing up on Tuesdays, but I imagine it'll pick back up some today.

You all enjoy breakfast, and have a very good morning, and take care.  See you all later, after Produce.

Joe, nope, I didn't talk with Mamma.  But, I guess our minds were working on the same track today.

Mookie, congrats to you and the rest of the family!  You'll have to keep us updated on this wonderful event.

It almost 10 p.m., and I'm going to get ready to head to beddy-bye.  Everyone take care, have a good night, and see you tomorrow.

Mookie, I take it you are in road service. Are you C or E?

Johnny

You brought a big smile to my face!  I am an engineer in my mind only!

In real life I am a 65 year old Great Grandmother-to-be, (which will be news to most of the diner patrons)..  In the 50's and 60's I would have killed to be in ops with the now BNSF railroad - but was the wrong gender.

So I am going to specify that in my next life - I will be born wearing bib overalls and carrying a grip!

And The Driver is my 65 year old, sweetest husband in the world, who drives me to train watch, usually on weekends when he is available.  (He is still employed!)  I think some people have thought that "The Driver" is a hired driver, young boyfriend or non-existant.  He is very real - and a few people on the forum have even met him.

So your comment delights and pleases me - if only because maybe I am taken seriously just a little when it comes to railroading as a hobby.

Good afternoon to all. Our temperature rose from the high twenties to the low forties today--enough to melt some of the snow in the street, which is four feet out from the curb. I hope another snowplow does not come by before school takes up again (elementary school down the street and junior high school around the corner; its big yard is just outside our backyard) and throw that snow up onto the sidewalk and driveway. We expect more snow New Year's Day--a good day to stay home.

Don't feel bad - when I left to go south on the 20th, it was snowing and I'd measured 16" of snow standing in the back yard.

It's pretty much all gone today....

Well, just talked with Sarah.  She's at the Philly airport, waiting for them to call them to board the plane for Louisville.  Her flight is due in about 2:51.

For our other two meals today, I'm making Italian spaghetti w/meatballs and baking some garlic bread.  Made a early morning trip to the grocery, for fresh lettuce, purple cabbage, onion, carrots, etc., for garden salad to go with the spaghetti.  Will be going on the warmer bar in about 15 minutes, so it'll be ready for you all.

Walking from the bustop, on my way home from the store, heard a train bell, then heard the train horn.  Looked back, and saw a couple of NS engines heading south; didn't see it when I got up towards the house, where I cross the street, so guess it must have went southwest.  Rats:  I could have gotten to see what it had coupled to the engines.  Maybe I'll have beter luck next time.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and see you all later.

Mookie

I found a Mudchicken joke:  After surveying property along the New Hampshire and Maine border, some engineers decided the boundaries needed to be changed.  So they stopped to tell a farmer that he was no longer in Maine but in New Hampshire.  "Good," said the farmer.  "I couldn't take another one of those Maine winters."

Off to do mischief....Mischief

While it's not as cold as recently, it's still quite cool in the early morning (38.7 °F. as I type this). I got myself yesterday a new pair of running shoes (my old pair was wearing out. Sad).

Good Monday morning, everybody.  We have a temp of 31 degrees this morning.  Supposed to have sun, and get up to 54 for a high today.  I hope you all had a very nice Sunday afternoon.  Ours was definitely quiet.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, gravy w/bits of sausage in it, and homemade buttermilk biscuits, bagels and bear claws.

You all have a good morning, and if you have to go back to work today, please be careful, and take care.

By the way, did any of you experience problems surfing the Web today? Around 7:00 am PST his morning, I was having trouble accessing many web sites (they were either loading slowly or sometimes not at all. Thumbs Down ). I think someone online said there may have been an Internet "backbone" problem causing the slow web surfing....

I found the source of this problem based on this article:

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/28/the-tubes-are-clogged/

Apparently, Level 3 Communications, one of the largest Internet "backbone" providers in the world, experienced a major failure of its network and that's why web surfing was so slow today. But the problem seemed to have cleared up and things are running much better now. Smile

Good afternoon, all. It warmed up into the low forties here today, so the snow is beginning to melt. I was able to get thin ice off the sidewalk so it will not be so dangerous for passersby.

CW, thanks for the lunch.

Larry, yes, some people who never learned the proper accent do talk fast. Of course, now, I have to ask many people to slow down, especially in telephone conversations. I think that our college treasurer was from Iowa; I know he went to Coe College. One day, I commented to the college president's son (born in Southwest  Virginia) that I wondered how the treasurer was able to think fast enough to talk that fast. The response was to the effect that perhaps he didn't think that fast. He was a good treasurer, though.

CW - It's a unique place to know someone....

Temps dropped 20 degrees in 4 hours, between 11 and 3.  Recorded my highest wind gust ever at 36 mph.  I'm rather sheltered from the wind here, so it's gotta be worse "up top".

Loaded up one of those digital picture frames for Mom today - she got it from son & DIL, so it's loaded up with pictures of my granddaughter.  Only pictures we have right now of my grandson are ultrasounds....

Still fighting with a cold.  Yuck.  This one just doesn't want to give up.

On accents - I read once where the four leads in a southern-based movie ("Fried Green Tomatoes"?) all had different accents, which probably wouldn't be an accurate portrayal.

I've heard more that once that us northerners talk to fast.

Which reminds me of the joke involving a letter to the family in which the writer states that so-and-so doesn't hear so well, so he'll type slow.....
